Pokemon Competitive Singles has been turned on its head with the release of The Indigo Disk DLC.
Deoxys-Speed has always had a solid place in Ubers formats as a speedy hazard setter, but so far in Gen 9 it's been one of the worst performing legendaries in the format.
The OU Council therefore decided to test out Deoxys-Speed in OU and see if it'd be healthy. Darkrai has also fallen to OU for the same reason.
This Pokemon has obviously become a popular choice thanks to its vast Offensive and Utility options.
Hazard stacking sets and various Offensive sweeping sets have been popular, but the best applicated of Deoxys-Speed I've seen so far is with a simple Dual Screens set.
The player Pinkacross has once again crafted a great new team and achieved an impressive #4 on the ladder. Screens Offense is back with this all new Setter and also many more new Sweepers that fit great on the archetype.

And it becomes even better once you realise you still outspeed all unboosted mons apart from other deoxys so you can run modest more safely than dragapult and you have a 140 bp stab move and all the coverage in the world so it's actually better specs pult

Just goes to show how better special is offensively compared to physical. Sure you have to deal with chansey/blissy but at least you don’t have to deal with a status condition that half’s the user’s attack, an ability that lowers the attack stat by one on switch in or physically defensive mons like corviknight/skarmory. Surprised they never had a Pokémon whose ability was intimidate but lowers special attack instead. Also doesn’t help dragapult’s only good physical ghost move is a two time turn move

Honestly I prefer running a mixed set, mostly because of special walls. I really like specs with u turn, dragon darts, shadow ball, draco meteor. I usually don’t invest much into physical atk because it’s there mostly for when they throw a special investment wall at me and I can nuke them with a dragon darts coming off of a pretty good base atk stat

Deoxys actually does get a pivoting move: it gets Teleport! And I think the application of a Pokemon that has the potential to both outspeed and underspeed everything (when attempting to switch out at least) is pretty interesting

Teleport is kinda bad on deoxys speed but definitely amazing on defense because unlike other bulky Mons it's actually pretty fast so the guaranteed underspeed along with its great bulk to tank hits before pivoting out is a perfect combination

Just give it some time. Once people realize it’s more than a hazard stacking lead and can run more sets viably than something like Mew can and it’ll probably get banned. Such is the power of an insane speed stat with balanced stats and a crazy movepool

@@bluebaron6811 I've seen different types of deoxys on ladder. Most are the general taunt + hazzards + sash, but some are also bringing superpower for gambit or even nasty plot + life orb. Deo-S is a very versatile mon.

I may have misinterpreted what you said, but psychic noise shouldn’t prevent drain punch from being used. It only stops the lifesteal on lifesteal moves, they still do damage in game. Source: I used it against Lacey from the dlc’s Alcremie, it could still click draining kiss, It just wouldn’t heal from it.

Deoxys-D really only fits on more defensive teams. Deoxys-S is more splashable on more teamstyles. Deoxys-D will probably drop back to UU like in the past. Having a niche in OU as always due to Teleport.

Defense is good as it got better bulk than toxapex and better speed than even many offensive mons so it can be great bulky support with stuff like hazards t-wave knock off teleport and recover, however using it means you can't use the even more incredible deoxys speed so it really depends on your team',$ needs and usually speed is preferred over bulk

Versatility is the name of the game here. In addition to lead hazards and alternative super fast revenge, the surprise factor of a defensive d-s can throw people off guard when they get a bad matchup lategame, and similar unusual sets can make it difficult to play around when it's not a lead.

For people talking about Deoxys-Defence or hazard stack, Deo-D is essentially a shitmon in gen 9. Its invested bulk is essentially the same as Mew's, but Mew has Will-o-Wisp, making it much better at running defensive sets. Mew also got Spikes in Gen 8, which means it now mostly outclasses Deo-D as a suicide lead thanks to its superior stats and movepool. You would almost never run Deo-D when Mew is stronger, faster, more versatile, has better utility moves, and is a better wall thanks to Will-o. The only advantages Deo-D has are Pressure and better bulk with just HP investment. In Gen 8 National Dex, this allowed it to run a Cosmic Power PP stalling set as a wincon on defensive teams. However, the Recover PP nerf severely hinders the viability of such a set in Gen 9. The worst part is, Deo-D is a worse Mew, and Mew is not at all good in Gen 9. Bulky Psychic-types don't do well in a Kingambit-infested metagame, it turns out. Mew even has Will-o-Wisp to potentially cripple an incoming Kingambit, while Deo-D gives it a free switch and is immediately forced out. Deo-D is currently in NatDex RUBL, and has no niche in UU because Mew is also in that tier. It's hard to imagine Deo-D doing any better in the main generation. EDIT: I just realized that Deo-D gets Teleport in SV but Mew doesn't. That might actually give it some sort of niche as a defensive pivot, though it's still extremely passive and lacks resistances. Also, it is notably bulkier than Mew with 252 HP/252 Spe, so it might be a better lead in UU, but I'm not sure. It's also competing for the lead slot with the 10 billion mons that got Spikes, notably Sandy Shocks, which is as fast as Deo-S with booster energy but has much better stats and typing.

I kinda thought the deoxys forms would be a problem in the tier, obviously not because of their power, but because of their hazard. These Pokémon have always been amazing hazard setters, and this gen in particular has a pretty major hazard problem, so I figured introducing the deoxys forms would send the hazard issue over the edge.

I still don't know what qualifies for 'being OU'. What if, let's say, 50% of the current OU mons are shifting to a higher tier*? Why is the tier still called OU and why isn't the higher tier with all those mons called the new OU? *I didn't want to call it 'banned' and create an easy argument for a distinction between OU and Ubers.

@@enoyna1001 Imean OU is the main metagame. There isn't anything higher than OU. Ubers is a OU ban list so overcrowded that it bacame it's own tier. So everything that isn't balanced enough is in Ubers. If Zacian Crowned fell to OU that would mean it's not broken for standard metagame any more. Basically people kinda want some pokemon to be overpowered so these pokemon will feel more special.

I think that Deoxys Speed might end up being ruled as OverCentralizing because it is versatile enough to run Skill Swap and make dedicated anti-hazard pokemon like Magic Bounce Sableye/Diancie cry. Speed lead teams are always tough

What I think that makes deoxys truly balanced, is that it "only" has 95 offensive stats. By gen 9 standards is quite weak. It is a truly good lead, tho predictable. It's also slower that some paradox mons under the sun. I think that both Deoxys are good in OU, not broken

pult has historically made great use of "just" 100 special attack. Of course, Dragapult has a few traits over Deo-S, especially u-turn and stab shadow ball, but considering Deo-S has way more speed and also a much broader utility/coverage movepool, I wouldn't quite discount its potential as a brokemon yet.

I been having fun using it as a revenge killer and set up disruptor. Taunt, Psycho Boost, and a coverage move to clean up slower pokemon followed by the rare focus sash + counter to stop dragon dancers and other snowballing sweepers Special focused pokémon is it's only blind spot in this hyper offensive metagame right now

Not that different from any of the other times he was unbanned. I still have decade-old replays of pre-ban NP. Only major difference is the Booster Energy shits that can't switch in. The trolls in the suspect thread are having a field day with it and Darkrai, meanwhile pretending they don't know how to switch on the ladder, so I'll just gloss over all of that stuff and see what the tours and reasonable folk hold.

I think what defines Deoxys-speed is it's supreme moveset options, not it's stats. We've historically seen Pokemon with similar bulk & offenses & *effectively* similar speed not do nearly as well bc they didn't really have good utility moves and were basically just revenge killers

I think the reason it doesn't feel too oppressive this time is due to completion from other very strong mons. Samurott-H completely beats it in the lead matchup since it doesn't fear taunt, has the type advantage and priority to prevent 2 layers going up. Ting-Lu and Glimmora also offer alternatives for hazard setting that are still very good in their own right. Offensive Deo-S can be scary but even with fantastic speed and coverage, 95 Sp.Atk isn't that crazy these days and things like Dragapult will offer more over the course of a battle, namely resistances and immunities.

@@bg8561 I initially had EQ in there but opted for a potential set-up counter which also offers dragon stab, especially if hazards are already up. I see what you mean though, it weakens Moon's full on attacking prowess but it's a work in progress. I might end up running roar on Ninetales-A as a lead to make up for this

Booster tusk isn't that good so probably run lefties or something, and gliscor is not that common currently with deo-s being the primary hazard setter so I'd replace ice spinner with temper flare to dunk on dengo(give it attack instead of hp investment as well to ensure ohkos) and obviously without ice spinner change the tera type to maybe steel or fire, or you can keep ice spinner and change rocks with temper flare if you find 2 rocks users redundant. Also you don't need both earth power and mystical fire on enamo especially with stellar tera blast so probably change mystical fire to healing wish,and gleam isn't that useful on dengo so probably change it to recover or maybe turn it into a t-wave hex set, you can keep tera fairy or change it to water or dark if you want.

If you're not running Max Speed in Deoxys-Speed, I would personally run Modest and then a bit more Speed EVs instead of Timid and more HP EVs because the extra power feels more important than the extra health, but that's me ig lol

The taunt hazard lead set is terrible now, it is vastly outclassed and countered by smeargle. Thx to the introduction of stone axe and ceaseless edge. Smeargle is no longer shitted on by magic bounce or taunt or magic coat. So smeargle(nuzzle/rapid spin/stone axe/ceasless edge) will win 1v1 vs deoxys with taunt stelf rox spikes.

I think Speed Form will be banned. High base power moves and insane speed makes it pretty much a better Talonflame from gen 6. And we know how insane Talonflame was despite its low offense. Not to mention, there is tera.
