Thank you, i have struggled off and on with DP/DR for a year now due to a severe panic attack. Now, everytime i have a panic or anxiety attack i have Derealization, its so scary. I feel emotionaless to everything and everyone. Sometimes i look at loved ones and think "why do they look that way?" "Have they always looked that way?" "What if i dont recognize them?" "Who are they?" Etc. i have severe OCD as well and health anxiety, sometimes im scared im slipping into psychosis because i feel so crazy. Your videos have helped a lot, thank you and praise Jesus's name for healthy recovery for everyone. ❤
@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual 8 дней назад
Hey, thanks for your comment and I'm glad to hear the videos have been helpful ❤😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual. And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

Hi Shaun! Hmm sometime i feel so calm and relax and i start to think why i still have dp/dr?! Sometimes i feel more anxious and with mood swings but this year i feel better than last year but is normal to be such a slow process to overcome 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual День назад
Thanks for your comment! 😊 So DPDR is an anxiety-based condition and cannot exist without anxiety. Even though you may think you are completely calm, you are still feeling anxious. Maybe you're not anxious relative to having a full-blown panic attack, but your baseline level of anxiety has been raised, and so even though you may not realise it, what you consider to be calm now is not what 'calm' is to someone without an anxiety condition. Think of it like this: If you weren't feeling any anxiety, you wouldn't even be checking in to see if you felt DPDR. But don't worry -- all of the symptoms will fade away and stop completely as your recovery continues. 😊 Read this carefully: www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-without-anxiety/

Hi Shaun, my names Trey. your videos are always so helpful. I’m just wondering if it ever came back for you? My brother dealt with it severely for years, which caused stress to me and caused me to deal with it. His went away eventually as did mine, but then it came back for both of us. He was so overwhelmed he ended up taking his life which has severely heightened mine. I keep trying to remind myself we’re different people, and he went through so many medications that made him worse that i’ve been to afraid to try. But ever since his death last month it’s like i’ve forgotten how to get relief from it, could really use your advice
@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual 5 дней назад
Hey Trey, thanks for your comment. Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, my sincere condolences and I hope you're managing ok ❤️ And to answer your question, it's common to have ups and downs on the road to recovery. But what we're ultimately aiming for is not just to have a temporary reduction of the symptoms, but a true and full understanding of what the condition is, so that we prevent the DPDR feelings (which almost everyone experiences briefly at some point) from turning into an ongoing issue again. Read this article, I think you'll find it helpful: www.dpmanual.com/articles/does-depersonalization-come-back/ And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR.

Hi Alejandro, thanks for your comment 😊 Remember that ultimately, DPDR is just a symptom of anxiety so when the symptoms vary, it's just your anxiety levels going up and down, and certain situations / environments can change them. I know it might seem difficult to believe but you actually have complete control over it 😊 Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website, starting with this one: www.dpmanual.com/articles/what-does-depersonalization-recovery-feel-like/

@daumele
@daumele 7 дней назад
Shaun, I just want to make sure once and for all because I keep thinking again and again that I have something else than DP and DR. Had a panic attack January 15th. January 22nd DPDR hits me very hard. Since then, it was veeery gradual healing. But now, a week ago or so, it got worse again. Symptoms in the beginning were very intense and awful: light sensitivity, weird vision, feeling disconnected a lot, no appetite etc. But for past few months, only floaters and tinnitus are left. And DPDR hits very slightly during the day. Few hours before bed I feel completely fine. Except this last week is so awful. I lost hope again, cannot enjoy day to day things.. Mind just shuts down, I cannot think forwards or backwards. Should I do health exams again just to be sure or better keep living and avoiding DPDR thoughts? Should I go to psychologist maybe? Thanks.
@Dpmanual
@Dpmanual 5 дней назад
Hi Daumele! 😊 Don’t worry, from what you've described that all sounds like a very typical case of DPDR to me. I know it can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. If you're in any doubt take a look through the list of symptoms here and see if they sound familiar: www.dpmanual.com/about/do-i-have-depersonalization-disorder/ www.dpmanual.com/about/depersonalization-symptoms-the-10-most-common/ I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. Shaun, I have a question and I would like you to answer it. How do you distinguish DPDR from obsessive compulsive disorder? Do you think DPDR can evolve into OCD? Since my DPDR began I have noticed this obsessive side, fixed ideas, intrusive thoughts, I am afraid that my depersonalization is becoming something worse, lately I have felt intense fear, physical symptoms like "ringing" in the ear when I am very anxious, I wonder if I'm crossing some line of no return, as if I'll never go back to normal or literally escape reality, help me.
