I’ve heard this is a technique called glazing where you do grayscale underneath then color over it in light washes and the shading is already done. It’s cool to see in abstract forms like this.

I think this is better than the mop paintings I saw. Even if they're using leaves they're technically also adding onto it which is what I can appreciate from an artist like yourself.

I would guess that she uses maybe an acrylic or gouache for the leaves and then colours it when dry with some diluted watercolour and more scrylic for the highlights.
