The first time I saw this, I came home from the library at midnight and heard the TV on in my parent's bedroom and went to say goodnight. Mom was asleep and dad was watching this. We had to put pillows over our faces as we were both screaming with laughter. Absolutely the best.
This is another highly-amusing,well-choreographed,and truly-alluring number in one of Danny Kaye's all-time most favorite, memorable, and funniest classic movies,The Court Jester. In this particular beautiful scene"The Initiation of Knighthood" Giacomo (Danny Kaye) together with a bunch of medieval knights had splendidly and hilariously performed their fast-paced marching in unison and high spirits. One can never get tired of his one-of-a-kind antics.Hear ye! King of all the jesters DANNY KAYE.
First time I saw this movie, during this scene my mom and I were laughing so hard we were in stitches. And then his pants start falling down and reminds me of Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.
I remember renting this at blockbuster one time when they had vhs tapes. And I vaguely remember clutching my stomach and having trouble breathing when I saw this scene I was laughing so hard😂😂😂😂😄😄😄😄
The quality between YT and this being an older movie makes it hard for me to tell, but I swear, in the part where the knights are marching in two intersecting lines, it looks like some of the actors are trying not to smile, and I don’t blame them.
paleface171 Near the 2:00 minute mark the guy to Danny Kaye's right is actually grinning !! Not only are they co-ordinated, but the casting director obviously was looking for guys who could keep a straight face (poker face) while performing in this organized extended shuffling routine .... Personally, I would have flunked on both criteria - - lack of such coordination, plus falling over with laughter while trying to do the maneuvers :-)
Hi, I´m a German and since my early childhood I have known this legendary scene only in english, although the rest of the movie (apart from Danny Kaye singing) was dubbed. I couldn´t imagine hearing it in German, as in fact the incomprehensibility (for us children then) of the fast speaking only increased the hilarity :D! PS: Nice to see another Gurney-ite here ;-)
