Several cars derailed on a Norfolk Southern train in the Harrisburg Yard, in Harrisburg, Pa. See Maintenance of Way workers inspecting the damage during the daytime and then see the hours-long procedure using Cranemasters as the damaged cars are righted and lifted off the tracks.
The work of righting and moving the Intermodal cars starts at the 2:11 mark and continues following the process as long as Dan's Cool Videos could stay into the night.
See trains pass by the incident at the 5:19, 16:58 and 20:06 marks.
At 18:16 hear an interesting conversation from a passing train question what is going on and saying there's nothing in the bulletin, and says it was "a little surprising" to see guys walking around the equipment. Dispatch says "it caught the H68 by surprise."

In the "glory days" of railroading, the railroads had their own crews, cranes, work cars, etc. Now they call an outside company to do the job. I'm surprised that those boxes didn't tumble off when the cars derailed.

The glory days are gone, done for, kaput. Contractors can do this work more efficiently and quicker than the railroads ever could. The cost of equipment and manpower is now on the contractor who works for profit and not a job,the railroads have way too many bean counters as it is. Wait till these 2 mile long trains are operated by one engineer with no conductor, lets see how that works out. Safety is not a concern of the railroads.

I know the guys I saw during the day were MOW, but I guess a majority of the guys at night were contractors. I was fearing center of gravity would take over a few times watching that second intermodal leaning over, but they are good at their job. Maybe someone who knows much more than I could comment.

Great Video and I agree about the Rail having the Equipment in the past and here in Australia as well. I am seeing a Person who is Giving us a Great view of that we Rarely see and that's a Recovery Operation in Full Swing. This Video reminds myself of a Series's I used to see here in Australia on Television being that Involving Large Highway Accident Recovery Teams using Rotators and the Team Work was obvious and it appears the same in this particular situation, Great Video as mentioned, Thanks for taking the time to film this and put it on RU-vid, Well Done.

Cranemasters is a badass operation and always there on short notice. I have heard that it costs NS 100k/hr to be out of service due to derailments so Cranemasters is making some major bank

Oh boy what a mess. Probably chewed up some track pretty good, too. This crew knows how to get things done, very efficient focus on working (only) what's needed to get the track back open. Everything else can be dealt with later.

It looks like the 81 Bridge momentarily shown at the beginning. I am assuming it has crossed the Rockville Bridge minutes earlier OR was heading West to cross the Rockville Bridge.....That would have been a major catastrophe if it happened while crossing the Rockville Bridge.

It was always interesting to find the cause of the accident. I do not know what the guy was measuring in the beginning. Unless he was measuring the rail width. On curves the outside rail would tend to wear away because of the force/weight of the cars. Excess height cars are uncertain at times. There were times when the rail width was outside the gauge that I was carrying. I had to shut down the main line going into Enola because the Penn dot engineer was afraid the excess rocking of the extra height cars were going to knock down his bridge piers. All we had to do was to level the rail joints.

I am surprised that the RR ran trains through while they had a car in the air on the adjacent track. Seems like if a small error on the lift occurred, it could have been compounded even more onto a passing train. That far crane was at it's lifting limit/extension with the crawler tracks the way they were. It was lifting the crawler tracks off the ground. Gutsy operator.
