Thanks for your review I was thinking of them for a controller and everything looked nice but hearing to many bad things and your review was enough for me to say not for me .
Unrelated question, but can you tell me where you got that radiator overflow bottle? I need something like that for my 77. I found this video because I am also looking for a PWM controller.
I’m using a $40 derale comes on like it’s supposed to but stays on like 10 minutes after I shut the car off. By then you have a drained battery. Or pop the hood every time I shut the car off and pull the relay.
Bummer. Hey, my Hayden is still working fine but I did have to get a larger amp relay since it would stick on but now the larger relay works perfect. I was worried it would cook my wiring but hasnt affected them at all. Maybe up your relay amp size and try that.
I really wish I would have seen these videos on here. I got the Derale fan controller(polished block), and haven't been able to get it to work yet. Looks like I got hosed...
I really sorry to here that. I know how frustrating it can be. Sure LOOKS like a good product and I don't wish anything but good for the company but I wish they would remove it from market until it's fixed. God bless you and Thank you for your comments.
Similar problems. Per the instructions, reset the controller to its lowest set point by turning the adjust screw CCW 25 turns. Engine runs at 190 to 210. Very disappointed.
Going thru the same thing right now with my PWM controller. It sucks...don't waste your money...it works 1/2 way perfect for 3 days then left me stranded at 220 degrees and complete controller failure.
Hope you had better luck with the Hayden than I did. The 1st one lasted for a few years then one after the other from there on till I just went with a made harness with relays and switches. Got tires of getting stuck or having my AC blow all the Freon out at a red light and having to use that clean pair of underwear my grandma told me to keep in the glovebox!
LOL.... mines still doing well. I even just run 1 and 2 35amp spal fans..of course I did morph in a 70 amp relay recently as the 40amp was stuck closed .I'm sure it'll smoke soon and I'll be replacing but for now works great. Thanks for the comments. God bless you
Lewis Walker I actually spoke with the R&D dept at Hayden years back and they were in the middle of redesigning that particular part number so for about 8 months the only one available was from a vendor they fired for QC. Sounds like they figured it out might be time to warranty the one on my shelf out! I’m going to use solid state relays this go around. My fans pull 25 amps each and as you mentioned the contacts sticking. That’s a beautiful Camaro you’ve built there! God Bless my fellow Texan
Wich Hayden kit did you put in to solve your problem ? Amd how everything is working with both fans .. Do they always start together at high speed or they go on low speed and then high speed with the different temp ? I need a kit for two fans for a 160 thermostat ! Thanks
Frank Gilbert I bought the Dual speed controller and that won't work with the fans I have so I'm just using one leg of the Dual speed controller running both fans off of one relay only problem is every now and then the relay will stick in the fans will stay on and I just have to go over there and tap it I need to upgrade it but if I were to just put two inexpensive Hayden kids on with the signal relays it would work fine since I've proven now over a year almost that one relay will run both at the fans. That's a voice-over response I apologize for any typos and I hope that helps thank you for your question
The brand X controller companies do not understand starting DC motors (inductive loads) from a dead start! How many of these brand X controllers are in the trash can?
I understand your comments concerning DC startup. As a matter of fact I spent 25k on my home to have a DC variable ac system installed and "ITS" awsome. That's why I tried this controller but the Co.and product are substandard in this item. My 1rst China controller is still working great. As a fact, I had to add another to support the second fan and they are BOTH working well to date. That's hard to say honestly as I truely wanted a better control.
My PWM controller took me FOREVER to get set up, the calibration instructions were not helpful at all. I had to heat the motor to 200°, shut it off, then turn the adjustment screw until it went to about 50% power, then I turned on the motor again to heat it up again then waited for 200° again, then turned the screw again until 100% power. Works perfect now.
Jon Duer i never got that lucky..2 separate controllers and neither worked as they should and each had a seperate issue than the other. My hayden is still working lile a champ though.
Lewis Walker Hey, whatever works! I saw in the video the issues you said you had. My opinion, which you should take with a grain of salt, is that you didn't calibrate it right. At least on one of them. Did you hook up a multimeter to the calibration terminals?
Jon Duer man i had them on the phone and they walked me like a newborn through it . Customer service was Great, product "was"? Not. Glad its working out for you. I certainly wished it did for me. Life..water under the bridge
Hey man, you don't have to worry about the Cussing! We're all adults here, Cuss as much as you want! The odd swear word here or there is part n passel !!!
Should of gone with "Autocoolguy " same thing happened to me times 2. No warranty with summitracing. Autocoolguy uses a real temp sensor, plus warrant , tech help answers phone everytime. Don't waste your time with derale. Summitracing and derale should take this non-reliable controller of the market. Period.
I would looks forward after your try cause weve same problem thou ... and as my experience i think this issue its technically so theyve to manufacture a new part better
