Our first home league game of 2024 was a pitched derby battle against Retford with local bragging rights at stake.
We welcomed back the bustling left-arm pacer Toby Smith, stylish left-hand bat Ani Suresh and big-hitting farmer Rob Hunter-Shaw into the fold.
Travelling all the way from Surrey, Frimley Phoenix CC TV commentator/ player Henry Douthwaite made his first trip to the Wheatley Oval and joined Pecky on comms!

100% agree. I suppose at this level in UK it's overlooked. Very unfair as it is so much easier to get pace and accuracy when "throwing"

Hello Wheatley - greetings from Praski Hospital in Warsaw. I've had my nephrectomy and now to live with only my right kidney. The cancerous tumour was revealed with the kidney. Cancer hadn't spread thank God. On Dear! Glad to get the seasons thrashing out of the way. Onwards and upwards, looking towards our next game which I'm positive will be a win

I am glad other people picked up on the chucker. It can often be difficult to tell from these sort of videos but it was so blatant where the extra 'zing' was coming from. But I fear that your batting line up has to take the blame in the end. It will be interesting how everyone responds to this. Loved the commentary and look forward to the next match :)

Hilarious early season game, have been involved in one or two. Funniest part was number 11. Henry comes in and picks the pitch clean and taps down imaginary lumps before playing around a straight one.

Our firsts game went very similarly! 88 all out with a 40 run partnership for the 9th wicket! Managed to get 7 wickets, so a bit tighter than yours!

I didn't comment last week as I was still coming to terms with not having Mad Dog around this year; he's a cult figure at Stanton Towers. Not the result we wanted but as ever the loquacious delivery helps make it entertaining, despite wickets tumbling quicker than Simone Biles. Forza Wheatley!!

We love Bushy but Connor’s a super-talented cricketer who’s learning to play in entirely alien conditions as a teenage overseas player. It’s a long old season and he’ll be contributing plenty with the bat and his more-than-useful bowling in the 20 league games remaining.

It would be nice to see some comments that talk about something other than a bowling action. Im sure there were many other things you could discuss. This young bowler has a good few hundred games under his belt, (plenty of these are at a decent standard) if there were genuine issues raised by umpires or opposing players this would not be the case. Yet every year the comments on here focus on his action. Give it a rest. Well done B. Congrats on your four wickets. 💥💥💥💥 Keep loving cricket as much as you do. Wheatley good luck for rest of the season, no doubt there will be some motivation for the return fixture!
