In this Derby then and now we are standing on Exeter bridge, Derby looking towards the Museum of Making. This is quite an iconic view in Derby that I'm sure you are familiar with.
There are only a few things that are present in both views, they are one of the pinnacles of Derby Cathedral (far top/left of the video), the tower of the Silk Mill building and of course the River Derwent.
In todays view the western side bank of the River Derwent is occupied by Riverside Chambers, formally the Derby Magistrates court
Number one Cathedral Green Apartments (42 one and two bed apartments) backing onto that on Full street is a Premier Inn hotel (118 bedrooms) both buildings completed in 2016.
In the old photograph the large building with the chimneys is Derby Power Station.
Above the power station is the spire of Saint Alkmunds church (built 1846) which was demolished in 1968 to make way for the inner ring road which was named St Alkmunds Way.
One of the pinnacles of All Saints church (promoted to the status of Derby Cathedral in 1927) can be seen poking above Number one Cathedral Green Apartments.
On the eastern bank of the River Derwent you can see W&J Lowe Derwent Dye works.
St Mary's church built 1839 is obscured by the power station view in 1915 but comes into view in my 2024 photograph.
Exeter Bridge that we know today (2024)is a single span concrete bridge which opened March 1931, but before the current one was a three arched stone bridge built by James Trubshaw in 1850 and before that it was just a wooden bridge.

Please note that the Then & now section on my website is currently in need of a revamp as they were all created back in 2005 using Flash and this is no longer supported so I will have to recreate all of my work again using a different method. In the meantime Im publishing then on my RU-vid channel like this one.
