i've said it before, but what separates you from the other "reactors" is the respect and attention to detail you give each of these "old" songs. I grew up on these songs and you literally bring them back to life.
Another song about Patti Boyd, this song instantly takes me back to where I was when I played this album to death and is my favourite song from the album.
Could have sworn this was actually about Patti's sister, who he was dating at the time. She asked him to bring her back a pair of bell bottoms when he went on tour in America.
I’m not telling anything new to old time fans, but you probably don’t know, Javaughan, that Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers is on the slide guitar throughout this album.
"Keep On Growing", "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?" and "I Looked Away" are equally as great, and all original songs as is "Layla" and "Bell Bottom Blues"
Duane Allman's guitar isn't on any of the 16 tracks of the first three songs on the Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album, which are I Looked Away, Bell Bottom Blues and Keep On Growing. The Layla album was recorded on a 16 track recording studio deck, with legendary recording engineer Tom Dowd behind the controls, at Miami Florida's Criteria Studio.
Omg!!! I just suggested to you Derek and the Dominoes to you the other day, please play Can't Find My Way Home, it will be played at my funeral. God I love Bell Bottom Blues. They have some great songs. Yes, Eric Clapton is the singer
If you heard this song before it was a cover as the song was written by Eric Clapton and Bobby Whitlock, who were the principal members of Derek and the Dominoes.
If we're talking Derek and the Dominos, I'd say "Why does love got to be so sad" and "Got to get better in a little while". To be honest, most of that whole album is really, really good.
You can take any track off the Layla album and it's great: Little Wing (a Hendrix cover), Have you ever Loved a Woman, Layla (the 13th and title track), Thorn Tree in the Garden. Back in the day, graffiti all over London proclaimed Clapton is God. If you care to go back in time and take a listen to Clapton's previous band Cream, there's more: Spoonful (a Howling Wolf cover), White Room, Sunshine of Your Love.
Heres some info I found. Btw he's talking about Patti Boyd who was George Harisons (from The Beatles) wife at the time. In 1970, Eric Clapton was experiencing emotional anguish at the hands of lover Pattie Boyd. His romantic agony inspired an entire album worth of songs, “Bell Bottom Blues” being one of them. In , he recounts writing the song for Boyd after she asked him to get her a pair of bell-bottom jeans while he visited the US.
Layla is one of those VERY rare albums where EVERY SONG ON THE ALBUM IS EXCELLENT! But a few of my absolute favorites on it are "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad," "Little Wing," and "Thorn Tree in My Garden." Please listen to those, you will be soon glad you did. ✌
One hit doesn't make or break a band. This entire entire album is a classic with stories that would make your spin, not to mention some of Duane Allman's greatest slide guitar licks.
The reason this wasn’t a “hit” was because the entire Layla album flopped when it was first released. That was largely because Eric Clapton wanted to make an album without the pressure of being the “guitar god” that sank Blind Faith, his short-lived supergroup with Steve Winwood. So a lot of people did not know Layla was a Clapton album when it was released. (To counter that, the record company created pins that read “Derek is Eric.”). The song Layla was included in a greatest hits album a year or so later and released as a single. That led the public to “discover” the album again. Also, though Derek and the Dominos was technically a group, the Layla album generally is lumped together with Clapton’s solo albums. Most of the band were from Delaney and Bonnie’s back-up band and Duane Allman, who played on most of the tracks (but not Bell Bottom Blues), was already a member of the Allman Brothers Band. I have never had the sense that Derek and the Dominos was intended to be a long-term thing rather than Clapton recording under a pseudonym.
The pain evoked in this song matched exactly the pain of losing my first real love who I wasn't enough for. It helped me to understand others felt the same pain and as such, I was not alone...
The only reason Derek & The Dominos are considered "one hit wonders" is because they only released one album (a second one was partially recorded but not released). Coming off of his success as a member of The Yardbirds, The Bluesbreakers and Cream, Eric Clapton seemed uncomfortable with starting a solo career, so he ended up playing in back-to-back one-album bands, Blind Faith and Derek & The Dominos. After the dominos, he finally went solo and went on to a stellar career. It's interesting how you compare this to Stairway To Heaven and Freebird. Both of those songs were recorded after this song.
Actually Derek and the Domino's followed his first solo album. He had done a tour and a live record with Delaney and Bonnie after Blind Faith. His first solo album was recorded with Delaney and Bonnie and their band, along with a number of others. Eric formed the Domino's with members of Delaney and Bonnie's band after his first solo record. Derek and the Dominis In Concert was actually recorded before the Layla album was released.
Oh finally your listening to the other songs on that album . Listen to why does love got to be so sad and nobody knows you when your down and out and keep on growing . You’ll hear one of the best guitar albums ever . Duane Allman on slide guitar Eric Clapton on guitar and by the way Clapton would never sing again with such passion
Their version of Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix will blow your mind. It is my absolute favorite version, and is in fact one of my all time favorite songs.
Try some of this songs: - "Tonight is what it means to be young" by Fire Inc. - "Time to wonder" by Fury in the slaughterhouse - "I wish it would rain down" by Phil Collins - "Wanted dead or alive" by Bon Jovi - "Angels" by Robbie Williams - "Back for Good" by Take That - "Knocking on heavens door" by Gun´s and Roses - "November Rain" by Gun´s and Roses - "Soulfood to go" by the Manhattan Transfer - "All you Zombies" by the Hooters - "Rise Up" by Yves Larock - "Hello" by Adele - "Rolling into deep" by Adele - "Someone like you" by Adele - "Leningrad" by Billy Joel
yeah...one hit wonder kinda doesn't fit for then, altho TECHNICALLY....yeah. but....this album, although kind of panned on it's release later gained the respect it deserved. if you research the reason and the circumstances behind the recording of this album it means all that much more. for my money, a top 10 album of all time. this is truly HEARTFELT music.....just incredible....and one of Clapton's finest moments (in a career that has MANY fine moments).
You are driving me crazy with your "one hit wonder"! This double album wonder was done only because Eric Clapton was in it! Duane Allman who plays slide guitar throughout this dbl. album was known as was Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett but this was produced and put on the market because it was "Eric Clapton"!!! He went single after this album. Listen to the whole album. "Layla" was only the biggest hit commercially from this LP. This dbl. album was the big hit. Period! Here it is! Play it one at a time on your reactions. Geez. Lol. Eric Clapton Compilation of Derek and the Dominos: 1. "I Looked Away" 2. "Bell Bottles Blues" 3. "Keep On Growing" 4. "I Am Yours" 5. "Anyday" 6. "Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad" 7. "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" 8. "Little Wing" 9. "It's Too Late" 10. "Layla" 11. "Thorn In The Garden" 12. "Nobody Knows You When" 13. "Tell The Truth" 14. "Key To The Highway"
Eric Clapton is an excellent guitarist, but NOT my favorite... (Duanne Allman MIGHT be...) However, on any given day, this might be the best all-out guitar sounding tune in rock! Song's 50 years old, and can't be a more complementary guitar-to-vocals song out there.
If you really want to hear an AWESOME Derek and the Domino's performance, you need toisten to "Got to Get Better in a Little While" 1970 Live at the Filmore. There are 2 different versions from back to back concerts ... listen to the 13.52 minute version
The category 'One It Wonders' should exclude super groups and music legends like Duane Allman and Eric Clapton. Most of the songs on Layla are fitting of the quality of the musicians involved. No surprise at all.
From the same album: Key to the Highway, Little Wing, Thorn Tree in the Garden,Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out, Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad. Really, there isn't a bad track on the whole album. Clapton has a vast oevre, both electric and acoustic. ALL of it is worth listening to. First The Yardbirds, Cream, briefly Derek and the Dominoes, finally a bunch of solo albums, dozens of hits, plenty of good music.
Jayvee, can I suggest 'I Can't Make You Love Me' by Bonnie Raitt. For when you're ready for a change of pace from the older rock. It's a classic late 20th century ballad, with deep emotional impact. And it has Bruce Hornsby on piano!! :^)
Please 🙏 check out Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad by Derek and the Dominos. My 2 all time favourite songs WDLGTBSS (as above) and Layla are both from the same album (Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs) and in my opinion both songs are on par with one another, well worth you checking out, Love it!
If you enjoy music from this era I have a suggestion. "Can't Find My Way Home" was written by Steve Winwood and recorded in 1969 by the band Blind Faith. Steve has had a stoic career creating or being a part of many, many hits across several genres. In 2012 Steve released on RU-vid a live acoustic recording of this song. Though the song is 50 years old, this is a clear example of how good music knows no age. Check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eoSn2Y-b6wI.html
