This is possibly my favorite song of all time. I was a little girl when it came out so I heard it quite a lot back then but didn't know who it was or what it was about, of course. I went searching as an adult, knowing it was Eric Clapton but not being able to find it because I hadn't heard of Derek and the Domino's. Eric Clapton is to my thinking, the longest playing artist who's been around since before I was born and is still touring. I love all of the evolution of his work and feel like I know him, almost.

Eric Clapton wrote this about the love of his life which unfortunately was his best friend George Harrisons wife Pattie. She eventually left George and married Eric. Between George and Eric they wrote 10 songs about her.

Clapton is just amazing. I felt this way about so many girlfriends when I was young. Crazy thing is the one I've been married to for 30 years, I wasn't willing to beg. I wanted here to make her choice without any pressure. I had matured enough to accept either outcome, and it's been the blessing of my life.

Producer Tom Dowd was working in the studio with Duane Allman when he got a phone call. At the end of the call, he apologized to Duane for taking the time, but said that the call was from a member of Clapton's team asking him if he'd like to produce an album. At the mention of Eric's name, Duane said, "You mean this guy?" and he proceeds to play a Clapton solo note for note. "Yeah, that's the guy," said Dowd. A few months later, Clapton and Dowd are in the studio when Dowd gets a call from Duane. Dowd said to Clayton, "That was Duane Allman. He wants to meet you." Eric said, "You mean this guy.?" and proceeds to play a Duane Allman solo note for note. "Yeah, that's the guy," replied Dowd. That's how Duane Allman and Eric Clapton met, and the album Clapton was recording at the time was "Layla and Assorted Love Songs."

The story I always heard was Erik along with his group attended an Allman Brothers concert specifically he wanted to see Duane play. Duane was playing and looked down in front of the stage saw Erik and froze for a bit. They were actually both in awe of each others playing before having met. Then after the show tue members of both bands hung out together.

@@rickschaut8366 cool I will check that out. I thought I also read that Derek and the Dominos as a group only did a small number of live concerts. And that Duane was not part of that. If true that is such a shame.

“Give me one more day, please” I lost my first relationship nearly 2 months ago. There were many signs she was going to break it off with me. When that realization hit me, I blasted this song and those lyrics hit me like a truck. Still hurts that she would end up leaving me the next day. Gotta love it when the universe sends you a message

Angela, we need a left to right of this photo. The man in the middle with the white shirt holding the guitar is Eric Clapton. The surprise in the photo is Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band, which is the person to the far right also holding a guitar. I have read that he was a session guitarist. My guess is some of the others in the photo, whom I do not recognize, may be important as well.

My favorite by this group is Layla! Eric Clapton had a few side musical projects, and this one was one of the shortest from what I know! I believe bell bottoms were pants that had major wide flares at the bottom like sailor pants! Now men wear those really narrow bottomed pants that look like they have stick legs with no style at all! They are really dorky! Later and goodbye!

Angela, about your talking about guitar play where you feel the emotion of a song. I recommend you react to “Stormy Monday” by the Allman Brothers Band from their At Fillmore East album. The guitars in that song sound like they become alive and expressing human emotions crying out in pain and desperation.

It sounds like an Eric song but knowing who is playing bass gives me a whole other thing to listen to. I think that guitar players that play bass put more melody into it, it's not just a percussion sound... Like how Sir Paul Macartney plays bass.

Hi Angela, I'm here today because I have a new love. It is the saddest of my life because she died almost 30 years ago. Nevertheless, you need to hear her and react - she'd be perfect for your "Friday night, ladies night". I'm talking about Selena, known as the queen of Tejano. But, she was in the middle of recording her long dreamed of English language album when she was cut down at the age of 23. I think her best song is "I Could Fall In Love": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XBCDvINm0Vo.html The video is mostly clips of her performances and public appearances, but as an accompaniment to the song it serves to show what a beautiful person she was, inside and out and why everybody that knew her, loved her. Please do this one! 🥺🙏

The "duet" element that you mention comes from the brilliant guitar work of Duane Allman. Allman was an extraordinary musician and Clapton sought him out to play on this album.
