He was a mediocre fielder and when it came down to it he was a good hitter but do you really consider him great, he’s ranked not even in the top 500 in slugging all time
Dee Blan Agreed. He’s the greatest Yankee of all time in my opinion. Wish I could rewind time and watch him play all over again. He left his mark on Baseball and it will never be the same. He was he face of Baseball for nearly 20 years!!!!
I remember this catch when i was in little leauge and I always practiced this cause I played short as well. Well long story short i made a similar play in my all star game and I felt so proud lol
As a Yankees fan I saw most if not all of these plays live and seeing them again gave me goosebumps. I miss him so much but am honored to have lived during his era. I know its over but I know Im privileged to have seen him play.
I don't care what anyone says.. Derek Jeter WILL go down as the best shortstop to ever play the game. The guys could run, one of THE best hitter of all time and he was extremely clutch. He was definitely the Babe Ruth of our generation. Like if you agree
why do people make these comments. Baseball will be around for a long time and SOMEONE i hope will be better. he was amazing. he is the best. but to say noone else will ever be better is kind of negative and disheartening to be honest. i hope the quality only continues to go up and we see some amazing players in future baseball
so much respect for this guy. I'm not a yankees fan but diving face first into the stands!?, all kinds of home runs, and just amazing plays. this guy is insane
Calvin James even more nuts that was the regular season game mid summer in a competitive year vs the Red Sox. The rivalry was so real back then I’m remember that game vividly as a kid even have it on vhs recorded
1:51-2:00 possibly the greatest baseball play I have ever witnessed, and will ever witness. Simply because he is a shortstop who for no other reason than pure foresight should have been where he was to make that play. He will always be beloved by and fan of Baseball and especially by Yankee fans of his era.
What's crazy is they never practice double cuts mid season, only in spring training but that is actually where a short stop is supposed to go on a sure double on the RF line since 2B doesn't need to be covered. I've never seen it happen like that though
Agreed. Long as I live, I will never forget that play. Not only because of how amazing/unbelievable it was, but because of the situation. He saved that game and the Yankees season. To be in that situation and make a play like that -- it was like something you see only in a movie. They kept showing the replay at that time, and I still couldn't believe it had happened.
Coming from a die hard Red Sox fan, I will ALWAYS say that Derek Jeter is one of the greatest players in baseball history. Truly a titan in the world of baseball right up there with Babe Ruth. A stand up guy as well as an incredible player! Gotta love Mr. November!!
Thanks for the highlight reel, well done. I'm from Boston and a lifelong Red Sox fan, but more importantly a baseball fan. Derek Jeter has easily been the best all-around player during the past 20 years (and maybe more!). Not only that, he's been a great role model and ambassador of the sport. The flip to home plate from the 1st baseline is the best "baseball" play I've ever seen. A perfect example of how his mental approach to the game was one of his best attributes. Oh how I wish he had been playing SS at Fenway this whole time. I hope NY fans realize how luck they've been. He will be missed by all true fans of the game.
Man what a pleasure watching him.he had the consistency throughout season by season excellent playoff performance and a great leader and face of baseball
Derek is the only Yankee to ever hit over 3000 Hits ,he is automatic HoF on first ballot , should be the first in history to get every vote ,but some sports people hold grudges ,just because he's a Yankee...which shouldn't come into play but people can be very vindictive , which this award is given to the Man not the team. He ,I believe , is the most respected Ballplayer in the game Today and maybe ever.I grew up watching legends like Mickey ,Yogi ,Roger and many more . Not just the Yankees either , I went to Ebbets Field to see the Dodgers til they left. My Dad loved The Giants before they left , he thought Willie Mays was second to nobody , especially Brooklyn's Jackie Robinson, except Robinson had the toughest story being first to break down the Color Barrier in Baseball.! Yes , Jeter is still better then most and a Living Legend , and hope like hell ,he replaces Girardi after this contract expires or sooner, If that's what he decides to do after he retire a an active ballplayer !
Derek Jeter is Mr. November, Rookie of the Year, All-Star MVP and World Series MVP the same year. The Captain has won five World Series Championships, and is known as Captain Intangible. He's about respect, about winning, and a man who looks right into your eyes. He's humble yet competitive. Consistency is his motto. Derek Jeter plays the game the right way: with abandon. He's collected 3465 hits over a 20 season campaign. Has been an All-Star 14 times and has had an allegiance to one team ~ The New York Yankees. It'll take a generation to replace him. Enjoy the highlights. :-) ~Uncle Bob
great video, plays that are often forgotten, Jeter shows over and over why he is such an amazing player, Man, I will miss him after this season. SO fortunate to watch him play so many years!
Dude...what are you talking about...I see you on every Red Sox video cheering them on...YOu usually are hating on the Yanks! hahah Im just fucking with ya
He didn’t have the most pop in his bat or the strongest arm in the league, but he was the most clutch player and that my friends is what people will remember you for.
Brad Burney for sure our time but there's so many great hall of famers to give him best ever. but for sure best shortstop to ever play the game hands down
Brad Burney I totally agree he is the best all around player of our generation the best pitcher of our generation is Randy Johnson. David Ortiz is up there too
Red Sox fan who as much as it pains me to say it can't help but respect this guy.... "Now batting for the Yankees, number 2 Derek Jeter, number 2" thanks for the memories, except among some others the 1999. 2003 and games 1,2 and 3 of the 2004 ALCS
Hands down my favorite pro athlete of all time. The man is a perfect example of what you want in a franchise player played every game like it was the world series never bought into personal stats and hated losing add in how great of a person he is off the field you get a hall of fame player and man.
always looked up to jeter.. i was a ss my whole baseball career as well my favorite was the in the hole throw.. and the missed cut off man... it was crazy that he came all the way across the field and made it in time to catch and still get the runner out.. amazing
been a red sox fan all my life. Got nothin but respect for this man. The epitome of professionalism, skill, and just everything a baseball player should strive to be
Derek Jeter was a fucking beast. The only yankees game I went to was when the Yankees played the Tampa Bay Rays and Jeter got his 3,000 hit. It was amazing!
Derek jeter worked hard to be the best shortstop in the world and forever. He also dreamed to be a shortstop for the New York Yankees. Dreams can make a difference!!!
Hey great video and i have subbed, but i am new and have created a sports channel with analysis and i made one mixtape of Kevin Durant but i am just learning and have questions and am trying to learn tips from people, one question i had is where do you get clips for baseball.
Good job! One other thing I would love to see is his brilliant baserunning. Not sure of the game, but I remember one time he was caught in a rundown between third and home, a sure out. The captain signaled the first base runner to go to second, they threw to second, safe, and Jeter scored!
I came here to watch captain jeter.the all time hit leader of the New York Yankees.. there was cobb. There was rose..and there was Jeter.. and the hits just kept coming..
the play at 1:48 may be the greatest play in baseball history. the absolutely god like knowledge Jeter had to know that ball was going to be long and the sheer excellence of the backhanded throw. beautiful
i never got into baseball or watched Jeter and decided to look at some highlights. Didn't let me down. Although that one play the other guy seemed to have had it in his sights. I guess if Jeter can get near the ball then don't get in his way. He also is pretty humble and a good role model for kids. Unless he is just good at hiding his flaws. Congrats to him for being a co owner of the Marlins. The perfect guy to motivate and coach a team.
