"im gonna listen to jim thome" man the guy is still so respectful. He had every reason in the world to be cocky but he is just a genuine guy. Some players need to take notes
115 OPS+ vs. 147 OPS+ 72.4 bWAR vs. 72.9 bWAR Also, the 2nd guy realized he was a defensive liability, and DH'ed where he could. The 1st guy wouldn't give up his spot and forced the best talent of his generation into a position he'd never played. There's probably a few things Jeter could learn from Thome.
If ever there was a man who absolutely knew himself and was always completely comfortable with himself, it is Derek Jeter. His parents deserve to be in the Hall of Fame too.
I never realised how much Jeter reminds me of Kobe Bryant. Competitive athelte, charming personality, the best on and off the field, humble, etc. God Bless Derek Jeter, the GOAT
Father Leo I was thinking this earlier today. Kobe dreamt as a kid of playing for the Lakers and did so for 20 years - a mirror image of Jeter’s childhood dreams of the Yankees and his 20 year career. And both embarked on new careers after retirement, opening new chapters in their lives. Remarkable men.
Jeter was my generations Babe, DiMaggio and Mantle. Just the coolest guy in pinstripes, you always envisioned how great you might be if you had even 1/4th the talent. Forever the GOAT for me.
Up next Jose Altuve talks how he adjusted to the buzzer so quickly and how the garbage can shoulda won MVP in 2017...thats coming up next on MLB Tonight 😂🤷♂️
Lmao... such a shame because Altuve was well on his way to being as respectable a hitter as Jeter, just a base hit machine... now that's all down the TRASH CAN..no respect for that little cheater. Players like Altuve and the Astros should make us all appreciate the legends like Derek Jeter even more. True honorable ambassador of the game of baseball.
Joe Cahill Band I’ve heard that from the broadcasters during the games. Lemahieu only pulled off speed pitching and the fastballs would be hit the other way. Now hearing this from Jeter, it’s crazy how similar lemahieu’s approach is similar to Jeter’s approach.
Lemahieu is also smart enough to know he can use the Stadium to his advantage. Seems like he was made for the Pinstripes and hopefully he sticks around for the rest of his career because he definitely does have the same approach as Jeter and is a hitting machine like Jeter was.
I love how Jeter, respected the tradition and respected and appreciate BOB Shepherd so much that he kept his voice on a recording. I love listening to his voice. It reminds me of the old days. It just takes you back to an Era that I wasn't even thought of.
I agree cause i'm sure being an owner has its ups and downs (a lot more downs than ups with the Dolphins) but I also think that the criticism owners have to deal with especially on the media side have to bother them a little bit.
@@SamuelDuplessis12 I think it bothers him alot. Derek is the face of the MARLINS and has to field reporters questions. The dismantling then rebuild of his team, all without a new ballpark. He's in NY with his wife for a week and the grandparents are baby sitting. NY press love him and did I say he's with his wife w/out the kids? LOL
@@SamuelDuplessis12 LOL Nah. While it might seem that every south Florida celebrity owns a piece of the Dolphins DJ isn't one. DJ is a minority (no pun intended) owner. You have a good nite.
Will M Yeah, he famously never watched baseball. Not sure it’s all THAT true even he’s a minority shareholder in the Marlins and working as an exec down there. He’s just not an obsessive like ARod.
What he meant by that was that he's resigned to the fact that playing the game was his past and he's now writing his new chapter. It's a mindset one must adopt to actually be present. Most pro athletes live the rest of their lives in quiet desperation never truly accepting the fact that their dream is over nor content with a new life.
I mean, his playing days are over. He was a champion multiple times, was a huge celebrity nation-wide, he's been there and done that. I figure after 2 decades of putting your all into the game, he appreciates having a little distance.
I respected this guy a lot. Not a yankee fan, but obviously if you love the game you love the way this man handled himself on and off the field. But to hear him say that he was a guy to not guess at a pitch is remarkable, he took his time to pin point where the ball was coming and shot it to the opposite field. One of the hardest things to do in baseball and that was his approach every time. Well played Derek your a true GOAT, somehow my respect grew
DJ hasn't swung a bat in 6 years amazing. He was such a complete player and fierce competitor during his years with NY Yankees.5 times World Series Champion
I'm a lifetime Yankees fan and Mr. Derek Sanderson Jeter is my favorite player of all time! Imagine this, out of all the Yankee greats, Jeter is the only Yankee to reach 3,000 hits!
When people ask me why Derek Jeter is my favorite player, all I tell them about is his career .310 batting average as a shortstop. Dude was insanely valuable on offense and defense.
@@meltednostrilsbornwithoutn781 Below average is an understatement He sucked on defense He should’ve switched to second or third but he was too stubborn so he stayed at short
Wow...I've never heard anyone say it like that. If you swing to pull a fastball, everything else will be a foul. That's such a simple thing, but I never had a coach put it like that. It's one thing when a coach tells you to push the ball, but another to actually explain it.
I hope young kids watch this video and take something very important away from it. Don’t over complicate hitting. All Jeets did was sit fastball and try to stay inside it! Too many kids think “launch angle”, sit off-speed when behind in the count, etc. if you sit fastball and stay inside the ball, you’ll be in good shape. React to off speed, but still think fastball. This guy is number 6 all time in hits and his approach to hitting was as simple as it gets. I wish I had taken this approach when I was young. Jeter is the man. Wish he wasn’t on my most despised team lol.
Love him or hate him, you have to respect Jeter for what he has accomplished. I love my Indians and always enjoyed seeing him come to the Jake/progressive field.
Awesome idea record a historic voice to be introduced. Iam a Mets fan and have lots of respect for Jeter he really challenged the Mets. Congratulations Jeter! 👍.
His whole approach is to stay inside the ball. My hitting coach who i work with 3 hours a day, focuses on the top inside half of the ball. I don't hit bombs but i get on base every single game and sometimes hit doubles and triples. Best mentality
Damn haven’t swung a bat since his last game.... he was truly done with baseball 😂😂 He was my favorite and I admit I cried both games at the end. The one at yankee stadium and his final infield base hit at Fenway when he was pulled from the game. I never thought I’d care much for a player like I did for Jeter. But honestly watching Tatis jr play has revived my excitement for baseball again. It’s a different excitement opposed to watching a player you look up to growing up like Jeter, but more like a proud excitement when I watch Tatis play. I just hope Tatis can have close to the career Jeter did.
Takes a special person to be successful in New York and he is the perfect example of a player who just worked hard performed consistently and did it with class..
I’ve watched Jeter’s entire career. Probably averaged over 100 games per. I now, after all this time, have my first gripe. Hey Jeet, thanks for giving me the secret to hitting WHEN I’M 47!!
I like what jeter said about him pitching inside u are doing the hitter a favor cuz if you go to Right Center with a pitch outside or right down the middle or like what he said a fastball you're going to get it every time.
Looks for his pitch, knows where to be for his point of contact, keeps it simple. Lots of young players could benefit from this uncomplicated approach.
man the simplicity of his approach should speak volumes to younger hitters. don't go up trying to crush the ball. look for your pitch and go with it, wherever it is pitched
