I think what people don't understand is that we're never going to see this again: a Class act and hall of fame ball player who stayed with ONE TEAM. I'm a die hard Phillies fan and hate the Yankees, but I love baseball, and Jeter represents everything that's good about the game.

Derek Jeter fan since i was in high school he's been my inspiration and he's been missed by the Yankees organization and I can't wait to see him in Cooperstown New York I'm so glad I'm a Yankees fan. Because of Jeter. No thank you Jeter for making me a kid to watch you I'm so glad I got to see you in the old Yankees stadium that was a dream come true.

Just a great player through and through. An absolute joy to watch him throughout his career. Pure greatness and pure class in how he handled his success throughout his career. He remained as classy and as humble as you could expect a professional of his stature for 20 years. There's a reason the Yankees kept him for his entire career. It just wasn't because of his play, but because of his leadership and classy personality. All the best to a great player and great individual.

Looking at yankee's legacy and their previous players prior to Jeter, statistically its clear that he's not the best baseball player, but I applaud and respect him for having a big heart, the many contributions he made to make baseball the great sport that it is today, and giving my friends and I the opportunity to root for him when I first went to a yankees game long ago. Regardless on how people think he's "overrated" or his farewell is "overhyped," we're celebrating his career not because other people are, but because he touched each and every single one of our hearts. Thank you Jeter. For everything.

Was I the last person to meet him in person? I am Zach Cummings I met him when I was 9 and he said I could be the captain when I met him no joke. I met him because of my mitochondrial disorder and I had a make-a-wish and I thank them for letting me meet him.

I watched a video that said Derek Jeter was actually an average to bad player in his spot. They said he had a handfull of cool moments but was over all not a great player. Is this true? If so how did Jeter get his reputation?
