Watching this interview it makes you realize how real Jeter is. Not one answer felt like he was being full of himself or anything. Leaders like him do not come around very often. Very fortunate I got to see him play most of his career. Thanks and congrats Jeter.
Jeter's last game at Yankee stadium is one of the greatest moments in sports history. One of the greatest shortstops ever and certainly one of the greatest to ever wear the pinstripes.
Being from Southern California I'm a huge Dodgers fan,and hate the Yankees but nothing but respect to Derek Jeter for how he carried himself on the field on off, very professionally,unselfish,I've always used his famous quote. ...." IT DOESN'T TAKE ALOT OF TALENT TO WORK HARD".
On that topic, Jeter also once quoted his Dad as telling him when he was a kid: "There's always going to be someone who's better than you. But there's no reason that anyone should be working harder than you."

Derek Jeter was the complete package. He was all about winning. He always came up clutch in the toughest moments. The Yankees will never have a player like him again. He is one of the all time greats. The current Yankees have no one even close to match what Jeter brought to the Yankees every game! Man I miss watching Jeter.
I get what you're saying, and can't really argue much but, Aaron Judge is the closest current Yankee player to what Jeter meant to those teams. As long as Judge gets the extension this off-season, he'll be the next Yankees Captain. Judge certainly isn't Derek Jeter though. Only one #2.
I was born in 1997, and it's crazy to me how time has flown. Jeter and the Yankees were my childhood. I remember the 3000 hit, I remember the dive into the stands, his last game, I even remember when he broke his ankle against the tigers in the playoffs. The point is that I sit here now as a 24-year-old man, and I still carry traits that I picked up from him in my childhood. I am so thankful that God made Jeter a Yankee because honestly, I don't know what kind of man I would be without him. Thank you Jeter for not only being one of my role models but I'm sure millions of other kids growing up in the 2000's as well!

I grew up with this man and I was born around the same time he became a Yankee. When I tell you “My Whole Life was Derek Jeter” it was the damn truth. I swear every single place I would go people would ask me “What’s Jeter gonna do today Sarah?” “Is Jeter is going be in the lineup today still playing SS?” It was like people asked me because being able to watch baseball with him in it baseball now is way different without him being in uniform. Yes he’s still with the Marlins organization but man I can tell you that isn’t the same even if I really just enjoy where his team is going. For someone to say “I hate Derek Jeter” no you don’t “hate” him you just don’t know him like I know him or like the person who was born around the same time zone as me knows him. When Jeter played it was like “My World was His World.” It all made sense. His Hall of Fame speech was soo Derek it made me smile because I still remember my tiny self parked in front of the TV with my barbies with my family watching him with the Yankees. The day he retired it broke my heart but I knew he would always be with me no matter where I would go or what I would do. 💙 Jeter was always with me inside 💙

I’ve hated the Yankees my whole life, and still do, but you just can’t hate Jeter. The one writer who voted against him into the HOF should lose his voting privileges.
He was a defensive liability constantly taking bad angles to the ball. Literally a negative dWAR his entire career but because he made the flashy plays everyone believes he was a defensive wizard, and he was far from it. I'm not saying he's not HOF worthy, obviously he's first ballot, but his advanced stats tell a different story.

What about Babe Ruth, had he not played what was considered a full season at the plate until 1919 - Babe broke in as a pitcher back in 1914.

Look at Larry Walker’s numbers in comparison. Derek was last in defensive metrics over his last few years. NYB media helped the Jeter mystique. A deserved hall of Famer. However, between the 2, I would build my team around Walker.

Played the game with heart and passion. I'm an Astros fan, and it's been tough trying to fight off all the haters, but as a fan of baseball... at the end of the day, it's fielding and hitting... and Jeter was great at both. Re2spect

I have been a Yankees fan since I were 13 yrs., when my grampy, Ceola Spivey, moved us from Harlem to just across the MaCombs Dam Bridge to Walton Ave. and 158th St. My eldest sister asked for permission to attend a Yankees game, literally, down the block. My first favorite is Chris Chambliss. I met Reggie Jackson, at the press gate, when he was leaving early because he was injured, love him (a gentleman). I took up for A-Rod because, initially, everyone was booing him and being mean to him. I love one Red Sock “Jim Rice” because I met him and he is a gentleman. But that magical and wonderful Derek Jeter! Wow! He is the same zodiac sign as Ceola Spivey, My son Alfred and Myself, Crystal The Song🕊🎶 (Cancerian). We possess the same traits and compassion for life and people. Reason why Jeter is respected vs all other players who were more offensively and defensively gifted, because he was a WINNER. The current Yankees can hit a billion HRs, they won't be as respected as much as Jeter and his 5 championships.
@@alwillk that whole team struggled against the Diamondbacks. Is it really a surprise? Three of the National Leagues best pitchers in 2001, all on one team. I'm just happy, and surprised, it went 7 games. The nickname, Mr. November, came up because it was a clutch moment.
I really don't like the Yankees at all, being an Orioles fan, but Derek Jeter is one of the most outstanding players, both on and off the field that ever played the game. A special man !
The flip play was so beautiful because of its fluidity. Jeter running, cutting off, flipping to Posada who catches & repositions while putting the swipe tag on Giambi at the exact moment his foot approaches the plate was a seamless continuum of motion. If you’re in the editing room trying to eliminate superfluous frames in the footage, you won’t find any. Russian ballet dancers aren’t any more graceful than that.
We have all seen the flip play countless times over. It reminds me of how players with SOLID fundamentals and who are HIGHLY instinctive will always come through when the game is on the line. What I equal the flip play to was Pete Rose catching the foul ball that popped out of Boone's glove in the World Series game against the Royals. Both plays changed the momentum of the WHOLE game!!!
