As a Red sox fan, everyone knows we hate the yankees, but how can we hate Jeter?! A great person in and out the field…You deserves to be the hall of famer that you are today ❤️ RE2PECT EL CAPITAN
Lifelong yankee fan and I feel the same way about Pedroia. Dude played the right way. Now please lose the majority of your remaining schedule so we can sneak in the playoffs and play someone else.😉
Watching this interview it makes you realize how real Jeter is. Not one answer felt like he was being full of himself or anything. Leaders like him do not come around very often. Very fortunate I got to see him play most of his career. Thanks and congrats Jeter.
Jeter's last game at Yankee stadium is one of the greatest moments in sports history. One of the greatest shortstops ever and certainly one of the greatest to ever wear the pinstripes.
Being from Southern California I'm a huge Dodgers fan,and hate the Yankees but nothing but respect to Derek Jeter for how he carried himself on the field on off, very professionally, unselfish,I've always used his famous quote. ...." IT DOESN'T TAKE ALOT OF TALENT TO WORK HARD".
On that topic, Jeter also once quoted his Dad as telling him when he was a kid: "There's always going to be someone who's better than you. But there's no reason that anyone should be working harder than you."
@@donrightgaming1455 A Dodgers fan will say that bc the '70s Yankees beat the Dodgers in the WS two straight years, '77 and '78. (But the Dodgers beat the Yankees in the WS in '81.) So it's not just bc the Yanks win so much, so relax.
Derek Jeter was the complete package. He was all about winning. He always came up clutch in the toughest moments. The Yankees will never have a player like him again. He is one of the all time greats. The current Yankees have no one even close to match what Jeter brought to the Yankees every game! Man I miss watching Jeter.
I get what you're saying, and can't really argue much but, Aaron Judge is the closest current Yankee player to what Jeter meant to those teams. As long as Judge gets the extension this off-season, he'll be the next Yankees Captain. Judge certainly isn't Derek Jeter though. Only one #2.
I was born in 1997, and it's crazy to me how time has flown. Jeter and the Yankees were my childhood. I remember the 3000 hit, I remember the dive into the stands, his last game, I even remember when he broke his ankle against the tigers in the playoffs. The point is that I sit here now as a 24-year-old man, and I still carry traits that I picked up from him in my childhood. I am so thankful that God made Jeter a Yankee because honestly, I don't know what kind of man I would be without him. Thank you Jeter for not only being one of my role models but I'm sure millions of other kids growing up in the 2000's as well!
I was born in 1995, i never saw another shortstop play for my team and i will never forget his final at bat at yankee stadium. To me he was the beat all around baseball player i have ever seen play the game. Re2pect
It was a pleasure and an honor as a New Yorker and as an adult to watch Derek Jeters career from his first at bat to his last at bat. Always a class act, congratulations to Derek on his special day. Welcome to the Hall of Fame!!
As a die hard Yankee fan, I choose to believe that the Yankee God’s were with Jeter watching over him during his career. The HR on his 3000 hit was no mistake. That’s baseball magic. Thank you Jeter for who you were, who you are, and the contribution you made to the game. You are well beyond your years and have earned your right to be put up there with the best of them. #2
Derek jeter the Goat 💯 as a 39 year old it was fun growing up as a yankee fan and watching DJ play on tv and at the Stadium old and new, Now Hall of famer deservedly 💯
As a Yankees fan there is nothing more you can ask for in a person and ball player and I've been there since the beginning with Jeter he was a kid among men but he became the man leading the other men to greatness R2SPECT TO THE CAPTAIN .......
I grew up with this man and I was born around the same time he became a Yankee. When I tell you “My Whole Life was Derek Jeter” it was the damn truth. I swear every single place I would go people would ask me “What’s Jeter gonna do today Sarah?” “Is Jeter is going be in the lineup today still playing SS?” It was like people asked me because being able to watch baseball with him in it baseball now is way different without him being in uniform. Yes he’s still with the Marlins organization but man I can tell you that isn’t the same even if I really just enjoy where his team is going. For someone to say “I hate Derek Jeter” no you don’t “hate” him you just don’t know him like I know him or like the person who was born around the same time zone as me knows him. When Jeter played it was like “My World was His World.” It all made sense. His Hall of Fame speech was soo Derek it made me smile because I still remember my tiny self parked in front of the TV with my barbies with my family watching him with the Yankees. The day he retired it broke my heart but I knew he would always be with me no matter where I would go or what I would do. 💙 Jeter was always with me inside 💙
Just proves you're a baseball fan more. From a diehard Yankee fan, thank you. And to flip roles a little, I always liked Big Papi. Just not when playing against us! Haha!
I’ve hated the Yankees my whole life, and still do, but you just can’t hate Jeter. The one writer who voted against him into the HOF should lose his voting privileges.
He was a defensive liability constantly taking bad angles to the ball. Literally a negative dWAR his entire career but because he made the flashy plays everyone believes he was a defensive wizard, and he was far from it. I'm not saying he's not HOF worthy, obviously he's first ballot, but his advanced stats tell a different story.
@@buckybeach9798 Great stat, but Lou Gehrig would've easily passed 3,000 without the ALS that ended his career in early 1939, and took his life 2 years later (1941). What about Babe Ruth, had he not played what was considered a full season at the plate until 1919 - Babe broke in as a pitcher back in 1914.
@@princeakeem716 Way too much fuss is made of one vote. Aaron, Mays, Musial, Seaver, and many other legends never whined about 1st ballot votes they didn't receive.
Throughout all my 50+ years as a baseball fanatic, I NEVER watched a more confident BUT NOT COCKY ballplayer! I HATE the yankees, but LOVE DJ! MUCH RE2PECT!
How can you not like Derek Jeter everything about him is Great, there is one thing though I wish he played for my team for 20 years damn it. The great ones always shine in those moments just like Kobe in his last game did.
Simply the best. Living in the Bronx and going to game after game year after year watching Derek Jeter grow and become 1 of the greatest Yankees to ever put on the pinstripes and do it with such class and perfection. It was a honor to watch you play and the memories you have left with each fan regardless if you hate the Yankees or not is a true meaning and n how you play the game. Congratulations Derek Jeter
What a beautiful representation of what it means to be one of mlbs greatest. I tip my hat to Mr. Derek Jeter. Thank you for what you've done for baseball.
For all the Baseball fans who can come together for #2 is what makes Baseball great. Thank you Derek. I was there for the 96 Word Series win all the way from Colorado. Thanks for the memories.
As a life long mets fan. Thank you Derek for being the class act of baseball for 20 years you truly gave your all forever grateful to have witnessed the best ever play
Watching that 3000th hit kills me bc my fiance almost bought us tickets to that game. He changed his mind at the last second and switched the date. Can't believe I was almost there and missed it. I have loved Jeter for 25 years... even with all the Yankee legends, there has never been a more outstanding player IMO. 👏 We miss you, Derek.
As a life long New Yorker and die hard yankee fan, this man is responsible for my love of basebalI and so many happy memories growing up. Style, elegance, drive and passion. The greatest player to walk on the field to me. I may or may be crying. RE2PECT. Derek jeter!!!derek jeter !!!
Thank you Mr. Jeter for all the memories. My mother who has since passed brought me to see you there at Yankee Stadium, you were always my favorite player, and I only have cherished memories from those days. Thank you for being a part of it.
"October to me was the same as March." GREAT quote, meaning everyday, game was important - Derek Jeter was loved for that. Pete Rose was largely hated for the same approach, except by his own team. See 1970 All-Star Game.
Look at Larry Walker’s numbers in comparison. Derek was last in defensive metrics over his last few years. NYB media helped the Jeter mystique. A deserved hall of Famer. However, between the 2, I would build my team around Walker.
@@chrisweidner4768 Larry walker owes a good portion of his statistical dominance to playing in coors field through his best 5 year stretch from (1997-2001) he had a insane slash line of a .357 BA a .445 on base a .658 slugging and a 1.103 OPS but astonishingly his ops plus, the park and era adjusted metric is only a 158 ops+ through that span well below what the raw numbers would indicate, hell through a similar 3 stretch during (1999-2001) jeter boasted his on crazy slash line of a .333 BA a .411 On base a .505 Slugging and a 916 OPS which includes his ‘99 season which he had a near 1000 and a 153 OPS+ All this to say that numbers in baseball can lie and that jeter is very underrated offensively and that jeter would have put up some crazy numbers in coors instead of yankee stadium we’re it’s more of a power hitting stadium jeter would have hit 360 in coors most likely with like a 430 on base
Thank you El Capitan for everything you did for the game!!!! You were and are the greatest short stop ever to play the game!! I'm not even close to being a Yankee fan!!!
Played the game with heart and passion. I'm an Astros fan, and it's been tough trying to fight off all the haters, but as a fan of baseball... at the end of the day, it's fielding and hitting... and Jeter was great at both. Re2spect
@@rtorres6688 I was certainly smiling for most of this video. Oh, the great memories Derek Jeter and company gave us Yankee fans over his Hall of Fame career. Makes me proud to be a Yankee fan.
NY Mets fan here and i have much re2pect for Derek, one of my all time favorite Players, Yankees has not been the same since he retired, Baseball has not been the same.
Derek Jeter is such a class act ! Such a professional, if you watch his HOF induction speech you will see that Michael Jordon was there, 2 like minded people. It was all about the winning !
My two cents among many pennies, as a Sox fan, you are the person I’ve told my kids on how to be humble, respectful and play the game. Funny, not one Sox player entered my mind when bringing up the kids. You are what best exemplifies dedication and hard work. Thank you Mr.Jeter for your example of what a good man looks like. Congratulations on the HOF nod. There’ll never be another!!
@@johnnyd1391 I literally replied to you with a factual statistic of how rare it is for a player to be with one team for more than 20 years and this is your answer? lol, okay
@@LawrenceAugust_ I’m talking about players that spend their entire careers with one team. If you want to keep arguing over a few seasons more then others if it makes you feel better great lol, let it go buddy
I have been a Yankees fan since I were 13 yrs., when my grampy, Ceola Spivey, moved us from Harlem to just across the MaCombs Dam Bridge to Walton Ave. and 158th St. My eldest sister asked for permission to attend a Yankees game, literally, down the block. My first favorite is Chris Chambliss. I met Reggie Jackson, at the press gate, when he was leaving early because he was injured, love him (a gentleman). I took up for A-Rod because, initially, everyone was booing him and being mean to him. I love one Red Sock “Jim Rice” because I met him and he is a gentleman. But that magical and wonderful Derek Jeter! Wow! He is the same zodiac sign as Ceola Spivey, My son Alfred and Myself, Crystal The Song🕊🎶 (Cancerian). We possess the same traits and compassion for life and people. Through and through Derek is the epitome of greatness and I pray, for him continued success, peace, compassion and humbleness.☦️ Sincerely, Crys, The Song🕊🎶 aka Crystal Spivey
Reason why Jeter is respected vs all other players who were more offensively and defensively gifted, because he was a WINNER. The current Yankees can hit a billion HRs, they won't be as respected as much as Jeter and his 5 championships.
@@alwillk that whole team struggled against the Diamondbacks. Is it really a surprise? Three of the National Leagues best pitchers in 2001, all on one team. I'm just happy, and surprised, it went 7 games. The nickname, Mr. November, came up because it was a clutch moment.
I really don't like the Yankees at all, being an Orioles fan, but Derek Jeter is one of the most outstanding players, both on and off the field that ever played the game. A special man !
The flip play was so beautiful because of its fluidity. Jeter running, cutting off, flipping to Posada who catches & repositions while putting the swipe tag on Giambi at the exact moment his foot approaches the plate was a seamless continuum of motion. If you’re in the editing room trying to eliminate superfluous frames in the footage, you won’t find any. Russian ballet dancers aren’t any more graceful than that.
We have all seen the flip play countless times over. It reminds me of how players with SOLID fundamentals and who are HIGHLY instinctive will always come through when the game is on the line. What I equal the flip play to was Pete Rose catching the foul ball that popped out of Boone's glove in the World Series game against the Royals. Both plays changed the momentum of the WHOLE game!!!
