Yes! As a ginger who is almost 30, I’m so glad my mother was INSANE about skincare and sunscreen when I was a kid! My skin looks better now since I’ve been following mixed makeup for years, but gonna credit my mother for a LOT!

Same! My mom and I are both gingers and she literally COATED me in layers of sunscreen growing up. I went through a phase one summer when I was in middle school where I laid out in the sun with my blonde friend. One weekend, we decided to take it up a notch and we coated ourselves in baby oil. It makes me cringe! My mom warned me not to do it, but just sat back and watched and let me learn my lesson the hard way 😹 The blisters were terrible and I haven't gotten a burn that bad since, mostly because the pain from that summer is seared in my mind! I had to sleep on ice packs and would wake up with blister fluid all over my sheets...so gross! I wasn't the best about applying sunscreen on my face like I should have in my 20s, but I've been wearing SPF daily, rain or shine, for the last 5 years and it's made such a difference to my skin. I'm turning 34 this year and I'm bartender, and I constantly get asked if I'm old enough to serve alcohol. Now I'm the one getting after my mom and nagging her to put sunscreen on lol.

Very informative video regarding sunscreen. My only question that I think a lot might find helpful is as someone who's acne-prone skin, I'm curious as to which type of sunscreen one should be using. There has been mixed comments like mineral is better than chemical, some says mineral could clogged pores hence it isn't suitable for blemish-prone skin types etc.

In where I live, from sept to feb UV is 0 every day and it's mostly pretty dark so it's great to finanlly hear someone say that sunscreen is not necessary then! During the winter months I only wear it when it is light out or snowy.

My Mom was angry when I started wearing sunscreen at grade 8. According to her “science”, I was too young to need any skincare. She said if I stared using sunscreen at a very young age, my skin would become accustomed to it (and the skin pampering) and require more… care as I aged and as a result, not be as resilient.

@@user-gc3rv6jw3n haha i should not recommend really if you really tried out that many options, but I did get eye irritation with some sunscreens before. They tend to be matt or even powdery. I have been sticking with the elta md 46 and artificial drops because I realized the problem was also because my eyes are really dry.
@user-gc3rv6jw3n
@user-gc3rv6jw3n Год назад
@@natedang8880 Haha I know, but I was kind of obsessed with sunscreen so that was why I kept trying so many. But I feel maybe now it is less of a problem for me since there are also benefits from the sun for the skin and the body. I think a lot of sunscreen etc is about money too. Ofcourse it will prevent maybe some wrinkels but they will come anyway.. And sunscreen does not work all day. Also if it stings that much to me, maybe it is not a healthy coctail for the skin maybe in other ways (for the own health of the skin and therefor for a good aging skin... who knows.) ...;) There was a dermatologist in netherland that wrote books about being in the sun is good. ;) ha And also no danger for skincancer because that is about burning or so and when your skin get used to it all year and slowly it will build a tolerance againt that or so.. But still curious haha, which one do you like from elta, the tinted or non tinted one? (I have them both whahaa) ;)

Same applies to SPF in makeup, or SPF mixed into skincare. You don't get enough protection if you don't apply globs of it. But the industry does not get in trouble because they're not regulated by the FDA. Wish ppl would talk about that more and challenge the industry, this is why there is few "evidence" or studies to prove if chemical sunscreen is a danger to ones health or not.

Most sunscreens are marketed as moisturizers anyway....so yes, as long as you apply the correct amount to reach the spf on the label, then your spf/moisturizer is enough.

Love this duo, we get so many gems! I was surprised that you both were puzzled about the cancer myth. I think the “sunscreen causes cancer” myth comes from recent recalls on sunscreen products that were found to have a carcinogenic byproduct or active ingredients like octocrylene and benzene. “Benzene is known to cause cancer in humans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the World Health Organization, and other regulatory agencies.” A study was also been published in “Chemical Research in Toxicology” about suspected carcinogens in sunscreens.

@bluecute123
@bluecute123 2 года назад
You can wear your actives however you like them as long as you are protected from the sun (exposure, heat and so on). Any active can irritate and make your skin vulnerable to sun damage. For example If you exfoliate (even with the most gentle AHAs) and don't wear sunscreen then it's just as bad as tretinoin. It all boils down to your personal experience, if tretinioin makes your skin unable to bear the heat (general temperature) of hotter and sunny months then you can consider to stop using it, or opt for lower %.

Well what is kind of strange is that this dermatologist does not know that you can get more easy skincancer when you apply sunscreen bécause it can make you be in the sun longer when you have not a good tolerance for the sun and then when you are not applying sunscreen áll the time the sun will get you when you have not this tolerence of your own. It is dangerous to burn and a lot of people are inside the whole year and then go to a hot country for 2 weeks and burn like crazy (when not using sunscreen or enough) so yeah. But if you build your tolerance in the sun the whole year, you actually not need sunscreen all the time. And I heard from the dermatologist that the sun has more! benefits to the human than that 1 negative effect that you can also avoid by 'being smart' with the sun. Build your tolerance to it and dont go all the day baking on the beach etc. I feel a lot of those sunscreen videos are about money too. And btw sunscreen stings!!

Wear spf to prevent skin cancer and signs of aging, darkening of the skin, melasma. SPF does NOT cause cancer. It prevents skin cancer. Do not skip spf on cloudy days. Wear it everyday unless UV index says 0 or possibly a 1. Clouds can reflect uv light. You still need to wear spf in the winter. Even in the snow. Chemical and physical sunscreen are both good, go with what you like and will use correctly. Both dark and light skin needs spf. Your chances of skincare are lower in darker skin but still need to wear it. Higher spf doesn’t mean we can apply less or less often, still needs to be worn correctly. SPF doesn’t give you low vitamin d. it’s more than likely a diet or lack of supplements. SPF in makeup does not count as good enough to protect from the sun. Often don’t apply enough. Indoors not near a window don’t need spf Most if exposure is before the age of 20. Really important to protect your kids. Still important for adults to wear it. You always need spf, even if you already have a small tan “base tan”, that does not protect you.
