The guy who did Ian is one of the best actors i've seen. Esspecially considering he kept that up for a day and a half, and likely had no script, just knowing a character and improv. Huge props to the guy
just imagine turning this into a series. like a real truman show. a zombie apocalypse without the survivors knowing that they are in a show. Sick, yes. moraly unacceptable, yes. entertaining as hell, yes.
Well they could do a fictional series about a guy being pranked. Then it goes wrong cause he kills a zombie. The producers try to figure. A way to spin it to the public.
MintGreen who says they haven’t, the Truman show was a jab at the things that go on behind the scenes n all the lies, how we only know what they let us learn it’s controlled, we’re controlled. That was way bk then
@@meunsterchease9983 Well, he probably got a huge adrenalin rush and he was quite fixed on observing the environment with huge eyes. No use in starting to scream. What would've been a better option than to see what happens around him without distraction?
Well one, he’d get infected and two:I know people talk about how they’d go besting someone up-real life. Would you really, human or not, be brave or sane enough to actually beat someone
Derren did a Q&A on his website post Apocalypse, saying most, if not all viable weapons were removed from everywhere, and the actors were trained to stop him attacking.
If there ever is a real apocalypse and Derren Brown survives, gets knocked out, wakes up zombies everywhere. He's going to think it's a prank, Derren: "oh yes very good, alright guys I get the joke, very funny" Zombie: "Braaaah" Derren: "yes great acting there, but you can drop the act now, I get it" Zombie bites his arm Derren: "Oh. Shit"
"Mom...Dad? Remember back in the day I was such a slacker and loser in life, that you guys had to stage the end of the world to give me a kick in the butt?"
Luke Hague stop commenting if your gonna hate on how someone feels after watching something because in all honesty even if you don't believe me........ Your not them! I know, crazy right!!!!!!
Writers for fiction tend to have to work in plot points that result in people saying or doing things that people usually wouldn't, and without really having character growth occur naturally.
Ok let me just say that Steven here, is the equivalent to Lee Everett. Has a little girl they need to protect: check Is the leader of the group: check Is a badass: check Comes back to rescue the girl he swore to protect: check Yeah he qualifies. Btw I was searching for a comment referencing The Walking Dead so badly. You don't know how happy I am to be a part of this comment thread.
I didnt think it was believable at all. The guy is caught in a zombie apocalypse and he doesnt say what the fuck?? He just calmly and quietly goes along with everything without asking questions and swearing??
@@tubester4567 He even didn't notice that his facial hair didn't grow a inch after 2 weeks, with his features he would have pretty much beard. 2 option they hire real zombie without brain, or protagonist know all the time and he is actor.
@@tubester4567 and ufiCz that was what the selection process was for. That questionnaire would be designed to find the most suggestible, agreeable and leadable person out of the 1000 or so who applied. So he's the top 0.1% in those things. Look at his lifestyle and bedroom he's not exactly perceptive lol.
@@ufiCz I feel like if you were in shock, and everything around you pointed to that experience being real, I doubt he would have focused on his beard length.
Could have made a series out of this. I like it almost as much as Walking Dead. Only difference though is we know the walking dead is scripted. With this most people actually believe this is not scripted and the guy believes he's in an apocalypse.
The whole atmosphere when they are talking on the radio is truly amazing. The acting and the whole scene was just so real. Filled with pure joy. Just wow.
This actually feels like a movie You should do an experiment where you change someone's life into a T.V show and everyone's aware of it except your subject with lots and lots of drama.
no, he signed something to be a test subject person when he was auditioning for an experiment. They told him he didn't pass, and he went on with his life. He already signed something saying he was ok with that happening and he wont sue, something like that. It's un-ethical, but legal
jason210ification Same. The scientific inaccuracies in the first few minutes would have me calling b.s. Waking up in a semi-clinic with no intravenous fluids and being told it's been fourteen days? That's not how science works. Good day. I said good day!
Wow, this has been THE BEST two hours of television EVER!!! I genuinely shed a tear with our boy at the end, he's done really well throughout the whole shit-storm that Darren has thrown at him. It’s been great entertainment for audience and truly a life-altering experience for our hero! We ought to put a finger on our forehead and ask ourselves if we appreciate who and what we've got in our lifes as much as we should...
If only this could be done for thousands if not hundreds of thousands of young people who have a "failure to launch". As a parent I would pay thousands for a 'CAMP' with this experience.
Just wait until you're old and infirm and experience the 'return to base' when your successful adult children have to move in with you and provide care.
Honestly dont know why people think this is fake, what would be the point in the planning and money required to pull this off, and then use an actor - why wouldnt you want to give someone this amazing experience
Same reason you'd set it all up and use actors in any other show. If this were reasonably possible, sure, may as well do it. But this went over the course of days, and he had a million opportunities to ruin it. Too big a budget to leave so much to chance.
Ironclaw XII Jesus, don't mess with this guy! If you believe this is a kid which he probably is then why do you go out of your way to be cruel to him? Got nothing better to do? Go back to Iraq if this is the way you act towards people for no reason
Not saying this is fake (though I have my suspicions), but... four words: “RATINGS AND AD REVENUE” No offense, but you seem a bit too young and/or naive based on the way you think.
There is a saying that "all hypnosis is self hypnosis" … though obviously some people do "go deeper" than others and presumably their ability/willingness to "go deep" is one of Derren's traits to select for... I skip/speed watched it, but I caught Steven's "love you mom" cam diary prior to leaving the sanctuary, which, I assume he was "instructed" to do ? Likely there were other "glitches" but when the ambulance door locked open the zombies presumably had to slow their roll so as not to catch up with the open doored "escape vehicle"
@LVXH Entertainment is full of lies, fakery and cover ups. Magicians have made life long careers from tricks. All reality shows are fake. Just think of all the actors in reality shows that keep quiet. TV shows pay these people a lot of money and make them sign non-disclosure contracts. If they expose the show they can be sued. People in the entertainment industry want to get more work, and they dont want to get sued, thats enough to keep them quiet. I think the acting was bad, he didnt even swear once, or even ask questions. He calmly followed. Imagine being in that situation, I would be like "what the fuck is going on"? I would be asking questions, this show was just unrealistic.
Kevin Stein You would love to have an experience where you lose all of your personal belongings and is emotionally traumatizing? Seems like a lot of fun
Because the power and strength of the whole thing is based upon it being completely authentic and we're being told Steve believes so too. If this was fake, it completely throws all of Derren's other shows and tricks into question too. If i wanted to watch a zombie movie, i'd have watched 28 days later or Dawn Of The dead but this is supposedly a social experiment. For the record, i'm really undecided as to wether this is real or not.
@@benpaul1046 So was I - having watched Derren on Joe Rogan I now lean on the side of it being legit though. If you've not watched that podcast you should check it out.
In a way, when you think about it, it doesn't matter if it's fake. In fact, it's very likely it is. Something like this takes thousands of hours and dollars/pounds to create and there's so much potential to go wrong at every step of the way. You can't tell what someone might do when under that much duress. What if he got into shock and just stood there, letting them bite him? Worse yet what if he used Ian or the girl as a decoy to escape, or sneak off with the van during the night? What if he talked about the meteors to someone who wasn't in on it; surely everyone he met for two weeks wasn't. What if he woke up when his brother went into the room? It all goes to waste. But you might ask, why do I think it doesn't matter? Because in a way, Darren Brown, at least in my mind, is playing the fourth wall breaking long game here. He's tricking us into believing the actor is being tricked into believing the situation he is in, is real. But still, the same way we as viewers connect with the protagonists of a tv show or movie, inadvertently placing ourselves in their shoes, laugh at the comedic situations they get into, tear up when sad situations happen, similarly, watching this made each of us consider if we appreciated those around us more, what we would do in the situations the protagonist encountered. It's not as strong as if we were there physically in person, but it's distributed throughout the whole audience of his show so the effect is more far reaching. While most of us may just watch it and forget about it, statistically there would be some of us that found it life changing and made them turn their lives around. In a way, we are the test subjects of Darren's little shows.
Xavier Azurro Like you said, this takes effort and time. If you actually listened to part 1, you would know this took weeks and many applicants were screened and Steven was chosen because he proved the most suitable for it
I wouldn’t call this a prank. This probably changed the rest of his life. It’s a gift. Hopefully people that watch this and act like Steven, hopefully they can use his situation to see that everything is precious and that you can’t take anything for granted
True - Derren said on a podcast that he trained to be a teacher and got married, not necessarily all to do with this experience but at least it played a part.
@@MrMongoose221 Good on him. He was fortunate to be chosen, but he did seem to have a kind heart so glad he has made something of himself. The time and effort put in by everyone to change one man was extraordinary- hopefully others watching learned lessons too.
that's just how good the girl was man!!!!! 22. little girl is older than steven. man srzly LOL i remember when i 1st watched this 5+ years ago. man. good times. Then you better bury me deep, because if I come back I’ll come for you first.
This was awesome in all ways. I showed the new show on Netfix and that was awesome too. I wish you guyz for your best luck for all your production team and players.
43:54 i love the zombie outside the window while Darren and Steven talk about how much the experience changed him. Darren is amazing, and so are all the people that work with him.
Question. How do they keep him from seeing/hearing planes and such? He's in the south of England, can't go ten minutes without seeing one if you're looking upwards.
@@taylorm7933 planes have set fly patterns so they don't fly into eachother. I don't think airlines give a shit whether the places they fly over are "In the middle of nowhere" or not.
10 out of 10 episode. Thank you Derren, Steven and everyone involved. You gave us all a glimpse of what the best side of us all looks like, it's nice to be reminded sometimes.
Would have been funny if the dude started beating the "Zombies" to death... Goes full Rick Grimes stile, stabbing their brains... Ian just stands there watching Sarah's brains splatter against the floor!
It was good an' all but... what if he tried to fight the zombies? Zombie: yo put the shovel down bro! *head gets smashed in* _LAW AND ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT_
@@playeronegamervloger9762 Of course, he acted. He didn't notice all the camera crew all over, operating the equipment? The mics planted all over? So, he's an idiot...
@@idfsg533 "Your the idiot." says the person who spells "you're" as "your". Okay, I shouldn't pick on such a blatant error. Easily made. I've done it, two. (Sarcasm) But seriously... Hidden stationary cameras, sure. But hidden, fully equipped with an operator and a boom mic? How do you think we, the viewers, are able to so clearly hear the actors through closed windows and doors? But furthermore, what about the continuity error? It was pointed out in another comment.
Imagine if this was made as a whole series, and there was a new episode every day, and the whole month of intense days and creepy infected... he had no idea he was being filmed, and all of his fellow survivors and friends were all actors! Wow.
i used to wish something like this would happen to me, kinda still do because I'm currently living in a half derelict house and have had a rough last 6 years.
It’s all good having fantasies and romanticising things but you realise if this actually happened it’d be hell on Earth? It wouldn’t be fun where you could test your skills and talents then head back to a cozy safe house where you could live comfortably for the rest of your days, there’d be murder, rape, torture, etc. in a lawless world that would be completely fair game and common theme and that would just be the non infected people without taking the psychotic infected people that want to bite your throat out. Like I say, romanticism is good and all but in real life it would be 0% like your fantasy so probably stick to going to a zombie experience night or something 👍🏻
This is wreally wrong. His parrents did a terrible job because he is a third child and they lett him lose. Now they lett him go through something terrible , just to feel appreciated. There are other ways to solve the problem. I am not sure that any real psychiatrist would allow this. He is gone through hell.
I've been waiting for this to happen for so long that I found it weird that the guy didn't start looting the hospital he started out in. It's a freaking hospital dude, antiseptics, penicillin, pain killers, bandages, surgical gloves, anything that can be used as a weapon and start making body armor out of a carpet or something. Just saying, if you get that good of a start, don't go outside until you got your basics covered.
He had no idea what was going on, and he was scared. That's why he didn't even think of grabbing the food Leona had gathered in the hospital. He also had no idea it was a zombie apocalypse and then all the people had left for Wales and Scotland. He does grab everything he can for the hike to Wales though. Seriously that's a lot of canned food.
May I ask how they had Steven's voice through the whole thing without microphones, though? He clearly must have had one on his clothes and surely he would know...
I want to find evidence that it is all fake but after hours going down rabbit holes I still can't find anything definitive to say so!? Please help with evidence or links!
