I just asked a coworker what it would take to create a plugin to implement handwriting into Obsidian. I have a tablet and sometimes I just want to write by hand but having to convert it to text through various apps is such a headache! Thanks for making my dream a reality!
I'll be eagerly following this project. This and a good calendar are the only things missing for me in obsidian. Love hearing all your design considerations because I'm also a long time OneNote user who found excalidraw lacking for pen usage. Rn i'm using Evernote because they support the variety of media I need and the task organization features. Then opening Figma when I need to get deeper into design iterations. But the dream would be to have locally stored markdown files.
Interesting. I use Figma at work but have recently been trying to transfer my personal Figma files to PenPot so I’m not locked into paying subscriptions. Most projects are too heavy though, just from high res images. And unfortunately there’s no export for FigJam files. Keen to hear updates from your journey
wow I have always been looking for something like this ! This is amazing, and the way that you did the tutorial after installing, it is just so slick ! And for me so far, this basically has no latency, and it's so smooth !
this is so cool. would be so good if you could have this as an app on remarkable or something and it autolinks to your vault similar to the fleeting notes app
I’d love to try and incorporate Boox APIs to get low latency (I’m not sure how possible it is). I’ve been considering reaching out to out to Boox to see if they’re willing to send me a device to help.
How to add the card system as you showed in the vertical scrolling section of the video , what is the name of the plugin ? Is it a seperate one from the ink plugin? Hope you answer , it will help me immensely
@@Omegaskull69 actually, I don’t think I showed Project Browser in this video so that’s probably not it. You might just be talking about “Drawing” sections in the “Ink” plugin. You can find the plug-in by searching “Dale de Silva” in obsidian community plugins, then go to its settings and turn on drawing.
Hi there, this tools does have a lot of potential, but it's not showing any pen setting when opening new drawing. It behaves the same as if I opened hand-writing...
That’s what it does at the moment. Both handwriting and drawing will get additional pens in the future. The difference between the two is handwriting has lines and gives you more lines as you draw. Drawings can be opened separately and provide an infinite canvas.
@@DesignDebtClub ok, that's great to hear. I look forward to getting some settings with additional coloring options. It feels much better than excalidraw plugin, so I really hope you'll manage to get everything working.
Man this is awesome, exactly what I was missing! One question: How can I delete a handwritten section? So far I can only find an eraser and copy function. I am using it on a Samsung tablet, not on a PC, however, so that might be the issue(?) Anyways, props for this great plugin!
At the moment there isn’t a direct ability (it’s coming). But you can click after a section and then just backspace until it shows the embed code and then delete the embed code
When you open slash commander it will show the shortcuts you’ve set up. If you start typing “ink” or “handwritten”, it will then search all commands and should find it. To set it up as a shortcut, add that command to the slash commander shortcuts in slash command settings.
It’s a plug-in for obsidian, so it’s available on any platform that obsidian is available on. Www.obsidian.md Once installed, head to the settings and community plugins.
I imagine this is an unrealistic idea but would it be possible for it to produce a pdf aswell as the imbedded handwritting? That way you get a back up and a more portable formated file in one. Either way it's an amazing tool thanks.
It currently creates an SVG, but it’s hidden in code, at some point I’ll be turning that isn’t a visible file in the future that becomes the embed… so that’s pretty close already. When I do that I’ll look into how easy a pdf approach would be too, but it won’t be a priority. Thanks for the thought.
after installation of the plugin, Ink plugin, and inserting ink handwriting notes obsidian freezes, doesn't respond. Drawings are disappearing. May be next time there'll be possible to use this promising plugin.
Yes to the first one. It’s on the list of things to do. I doubt I’ll ever do back links though. There are a lot of things that are higher priority to develop in the plug-in. And I feel that would introduce complexity that goes against what the plugin facilitates. but i'm open to considering it down the line.
@@DesignDebtClub I am on a mac and i was trying to resize the handwritting resultant as it is large affront my writting. Additionaly, after disabling reading edit length in editor - the writting sections just look very big
