Joking aside with the flight director I completely relate to the frustration and disappointment that immediately washes over you when you declare the flight is cancelled. It takes alot of planning, logistics and patience to co-ordinate a bunch of balloons into the middle of nowhere basically. The command that was given was to begin inflation not to hot inflate and stand up. This in my opinion is pointless however what it mightve been for was to dry the balloons whilst waiting for the fog to disappear. Two things I will take away from this 2nd visit to Qatar is the fog here is very wet, it collects on anything that it could latch onto. Balloons, fan frame, cars, and tarpaulins on the ground which you will then lay said balloon on top of. So if this is why some pilots stood their balloons up then I take back about what I said when wasting gas.
The next time we fly I will do a proper dedication to Katie Warner. God bless you Paul and Chloe, we are all thinking of you during your time of loss.
