God, just so freakin' good. California country at it's absolute best, it's scary to think this came out in 1988 and sounds fresher, cleaner, and frankly better than a lot of the stuff I hear on modern country radio.
Today's so-called country fans could sure use a dosage of the Desert Rose Band and learn what great musicianship is,because it's demonstrated tenfold here.
I could not agree more!! Love these guys, not really a country music fan. This stuff is different, higher-classed. An exponent of the "Bakersfield Sound"..Had the pleasure of seeing these guys live minus JD Maness & Steve Duncan, unplugged, at a theater in downtown Tucson a short while back..they were wonderfully flawless! Would love to see them again. Title cut of this album is also a gem..As a musician, not playing now, have worked out a number of their songs!! Great bunch of players!! This is what it's all about!!
@@structualfitter You're probably correct!! Way far above their "musicianship threshold" for sure!! Would be way too sophisticated for them to appreciate, learn, accept!! Really sad..!
Man, am i glad this came up , it was a great song. Crazy how much good music can come and go in a life time. I just wish the sound quality was better for this video. I have it cranked just to hear it. Will be trying to find a hard copy now.
Just incredible musicians, and with the perfectly coiffed locks on Hillman, Jorgenson and Maness these guys qualify as country rock's version of an '80s hair band.
From my humble point of view She don't love nobody Nothin' borrowed, nothin' blue She don't love nobody Behind the green eyes I detect She don't love nobody Her heart no kiss could resurrect She don't love nobody All of her life She's been told to hang on tight There's a man who'd make her his wife But she's not interested in anything mama said She throws passion to the wind She don't love nobody She don't give out but she don't give in She don't love nobody And if I could I'd make her mine But she don't love nobody And she would never walk that line She don't love nobody All of my life I've been told to hang on tight There's a girl who'd be my wife But I'm not interested in anything mama said I want the girl who does not need She don't love nobody She's the one my heart receives She don't love nobody She don't love nobody She don't love nobody She don't love nobody She don't love nobody She don't love nobody She don't love nobody
If this video brings a few Desert Rose fans to know Nick Lowe, that's a good thing. Nick Lowe wrote "What's so funny about Peace Love and Understanding" for Elvis Costello, "Cruel to be Kind", performed "I knew the Bride..." with Dave Edmunds, and played some delicious bass on John Hiatt's "Bring The Family" alongside Jim Keltner and Ry Cooder. Wonderful guy and he's still evolving as a musician.
I worked on the first album cover art with Jay Dusard (Photographer) in Prescott AZ and saw an early show at Matt’s Salon and knew this was one of the hottest bands ever with the then debuted John Jorgensen on guitar, Chris on lead vocal with legendary Herb Peterson on Banjo and harmony, and Jay Dee Maness on Steele. Have enjoyed the occasional reunions, and all of Chris and Herbs and John’s amazing catalogue of work. Keep it up.

This song brings me back to cutting wheat when I was a little kid. Its funny how a song can bring back a random time in your life. Much more care free back then!
This is one the Greatest bands in the world and I mean that i've got All of their albums them and The Maverick i Seem to Listen to them all the time Great music and you can't hear this kind of Country Anymore but it's a great thing we can All still watch this stuff on websites like this keep old country alive.
I loved, loved this era of country music - The Desert Rose Band, Southern Pacific, etc There are a few out there today that I will listen to but not many.
Your welcome Lady, That particular show remains also one of my favourites. Have you already watched "Twilight is Gone"? John's guitar part really kicks ... !
I honestly didn't know this was country when I'd hear it on the radio as a kid in 8th grade. No more country then Mellencamp. It's just awsome American music!
It was written in Southern vernacular ... like most Southern and Country&Western music ... and most other American Music ... where the "double negative" is sorted out by the context, tone and other characteristics of speech hold as much "information" as the words themselves.
GREAT STUFF!! Thank you so much for this great post of an outstanding band! Can John play wicked guitar and can Chris sing flawless lead vocal!!! Awesome song...awesome band! Thank you.
the last vinyl I get it's from them, and I see them in a little club near Burlington Vermont in the summer of 90's,I think I'm the only french Canadian got this opportunity
Great song. Thank you John Hiatt. Learned about this song from Nick Lowe. Little Village ... Love this cover. Great energy and the band makes the song more dynamic and special. Bravo y'all!
GREAT STUFF!!! Many thanks for this wondeful post by an outstanding band. Can John play wicked guitar and can Chris sing lflawless ead vocal???? Can't be beat! Thank you so much.
If these guys came out today, they’d call them Americana. That’s where all the real country music has went...the stuff on the Country charts today is 95% crapola.
This was written by John Hiatt. Although Nick Lowe is not 'better' than The Desert Rose Band, neither is The Desert Rose Band 'better than Nick Lowe. Different types of artists. Nick the Knifes version of this song is every bit as good and in some areas better.
I have Nick Lowe's version on LP. It's cool that Hiatt wrote it, but I dont see anywhere that John Hiatt actually recorded this song. I checked the website. Is it possible he wrote it for Nick Lowe?
