I would buy the Mojave because both are too long to rock crawl but you can find open spaces to have fun off road. Plus the better suspension on the Mojave should provide a better ride no matter what surface.

I have a 2023 Mojave and I drove a Rubicon Unlimited for a week. The Rubicon seemed to ride smoother. But the beefier suspension and frame was why I went with the Mojave

The only thing that really makes it tough for me to decide which I’ll get, is the fact that the Rubicon has the sway bar disconnect and the Mojave doesn’t. I freaking love that button. If there was an easy way to put that in later, I’d totally go Mojave.
@jonman364

@@madieonmaus4290 From what I've read, it is easier (and cheaper) to add Rubicon features to a Mojave than Mojave features to a Rubicon. I may add a front locker eventually, but I'm sticking to a manual sway bar disconnect as the electronic ones tend to go bad. Great video! Helped me decide between a Rubicon and Mojave. When you talk about setting up the Mojave for rock crawling you don't mention placing it in off road plus mode. One of the advantages of off road + is that in first gear, 4 low, the front axle uses more aggressive braking to simulate a locking axle. You pretty much have to put the automatic in manual mode 4 low, first gear, because it shifts so quickly into 2nd gear. Still not a good as a locking differential, but better than not having the brake lock differential active.

As a person that has been off-roading 45 years now, it is common for us to have many people out with us, with vehicles that have various degrees of equipment performance and limitations too, ranging from extreme capability to little/moderate capability. Regardless, everyone drives to the ability of their equipment and manages to get through ALL obstacles. The short coming of this video is to expect each vehicle to perform equally on a trail and taking the EXACT same line on an obstacle. A better consideration would be to alternatively say that we are simply going to go 30 miles in one direction and how a person navigates any obstacles along the way is up to them relative to how they feel as though their ride is/is not limited by any performance constraints. The fair test would be to compare notes after a 30 mile run and discuss the variations between both units. My guess is that both units have their strengths and weaknesses but are probably largely equally capable of getting the job done if allowed to play to their individual strengths and weaknesses. Then in turn the same comparable run should be done in the desert as well. My guess that in the end it should always be a coin flip where an end user needs to decide what environment represents the bulk of their off road driving and hence what vehicle spec best suits them in the end. I'd guess in the end there is probably a 90%-95% overlap in regards to identically consistent performance between the 2 different units.

Rubicon is great on paper but if you're doing any serious off-roading and rock crawling, a 2 or 4 door Wrangler Rubicon is a far superior choice. Jeep- just give us the best of all worlds- Hemi Mojave with front lockers and (optional) 4:1 transfer case! Now that's a truck people would pay 70 grand for!

I wish they’d offer these with a 5.7L and 6.4L option and keep the 3.6L as a base engine.

I’ll stick with my Rubicon too; add a tazer mini to it and you can also have a rear locker in high. The Mojave with slow pentistar doesn’t make it a desert runner then again if you supercharge it like @Goonzquad did that might wake up the Mojave for high speed running. I think Jeep missed the mark with Mojave by not giving it more power.

If enough people complain maybe they'll drop it in there. Jeep does claim to listen to its drivers. We'll see.

You can lock the rear in 4hi without a tazer. Hit off-road plus. Hold traction control for 5 sec and disable esp. hit rear lock button. TaDa it’s a Mojave without the lift. lol

I kinda want the Mojave, but I also want the Front locker & Sway bar disconnect.... What to do? I guess its a choice of what's more important: Fast off-road driving (which I like) or very hard core rock crawling... Also, NO Diesel on the Mojave... That may be a dealbreaker, but I would like to be able to drive the RUbicon on fast desert tracks. Somebody lend me money for both? :) In that case a good combo would be a 2-door Wrangler Rubicon for the hard-core rock crawling with a diesel or 3.6 manual (your choice) and the Gladiator Mojave for the fast trails (though I"d pick a RUbicon 4Xe Wrangler & a Mojave if I could choose both, the 4Xe if I could choose just one, but I am temped by Gladiator because I need the bed and payload for work, so Back to the Gladiator Mojave or Rubicon.... WHich to choose...)

2.72:1 is the standard low range ratio of the non Rubicon models. Been a pretty standard low range ratio on Jeeps since at least the 80s.

I'd like the diesel on the Mojave, OR them to bring a 4Xe on the Gladiator. LOVEd my Rubicon 4Xe... But I need cargo room, and I was hoping this would be the year I'd be able to get one, I may just have to go for a 3.0 DIesel Rubicon if I can find one.

Anyone who elects to buy a 4x4 and passes on a locker, sway bar disconnect and lower transfer case ratio deserves exactly what they get....an overated, under performing over priced vehicle with a cool sticker that does nothing for you ...but hey! It's desert rated! Hahaha Everyone who sees a Moab or Mojave sticker on a jeep knows immediately that the owner has no clue what they are doing.

A bit misleading on the first test. The Rubi got stuck on the rear skidplate/pumpkin and so did the Mojave. they both took a different line and both made it on the new line without scraping. For the second test that low range transfer case is nice especially if you are going to put larger tires on it, but in the stock configuration 99% of the time the 4:1TC isn't going to get you anywhere that the 2.72:1TC can't. The third test was kind of fun to watch but did not prove which one was faster in a high speed rough road situation. Sorry for being so critical. I watch your videos all the time and most of the time you do a great job getting the right information to me (a viewer). I know this video is three years old but I just bought a mojave after a grueling week of weighing the pros and cons on buying a mojave or a rubi. Anyway my two cents. keep up the good work.

This was a discredit to the Mojave, i swapped my 2020 JT Rubi for a 23 Mojave, They are at totally different ends of the jeep spectrum, Youll destroy a stock Rubicon trying to keep up with a Mojave on Trails.. i could only hit like 25 to 30 on the local trails in the rubi, i stomped the same trails at 55 and 60 in the Mojave and caught sweet ait time 🤘😎.. Rock crawling hands down the Rubi, speed on a trail hands down, Mojave is a beast... The Mojave goes pretty darn good on the trails though... Since i dont crawl, The Mojave is built for me.. Love em both though.. OIIIIIIIO Since ive had both i must say they are a breed apart..

I love all your videos at TFL especially these Gladiator videos! Keep up the good work! I enjoy your humor as well as others. I would love to have a Rubicon Gladiator soon. I just wish they could be a lot cheaper. Maybe some nice discounts after things get back to normal after this virus stuff? I understand Jeep has to make has to make some money. I wonder how much it cost to build a Rubicon Gladiator compared to the stock price that they sell them at.

If you want to rock crawl don’t use a long wheelbase truck…. The Rubicon Gladiator is pointless as it’s always going to be the wrong tool for the job.
