Paul Boterro, CEO and President, Inmotive, says the Ingear two-speed transmission was designed with electric motors in mind and features a simple design which provides many benefits. These include high efficiency and lower cost, as well as smooth shifting because there are no clutches.
And because there are no clutches, Boterro says the transmission is able to provide continuous power during shifting which can be particularly beneficial in many off-highway applications, such as a loaded piece of equipment traveling uphill.
The high efficiency, low cost and smooth shifting benefits provided by Ingear are especially beneficial for electric vehicles which are integral to ensuring performance of these vehicle types.

Movement & Timing are "KEY" here.

A planetary gearset with a dog clutch in 1st gear and a clutch pack for 2nd would be a lot more compact, durable, simple, and still have the same efficiency in top gear and be able to deliver torque during shifts.

But This innovation is great Congratulations siir!!!!

I absolutely love the innovation!!! This is indeed clever. However, durability, reliability, and torque capacity are huge questions here. But again kudos on the creativity. Well done.

I think this is a brilliant design for a rather lightweight vehicle. With heavyweight or high performance application, my concern is that would the chain jump off the gear like bicycles sometimes do? Plus, it only offers two gears. But this definitely looks promising for the EVs in the near future! I’d love to drive an EV with a transmission so the motor doesn’t have to rev so high when driving in high speed.

Assuming I am retro-fitting an old car, can this mount in place of the existing trans? That would seem easier than replacing the rear axle. If it mounts in place of an existing rear-end, it would require modification of the trunk (not a problem - I love cutting cars up!) But there is the cost of the new rear axle/brakes/hubs to consider. Lastly, will a common motor (Netgain HyPer 9, for ex.) mount to this trans?

Would this allow for a smaller (cheaper) electric motors to be used or allow for smaller lighter weight batteries.

Remember the gears are syncronized?

The Gladimir kholein Brazilian transmission is superior !! Permits stop and reverse in same shaft speed!!

A derailleur for EVs. Taking a bicycle idea. Nice.

Fundamentally, I do not see this working on a larger scale, or transitioning properly at all.

Hmm, the toothed chain will wear faster anyway when engaging gear 1 or 2 and whether you like it or not, there will be a break in the transfer of the torque, for me as a technological engineer there is no innovation here. Currently, the only transmissions that should be developed are hydrostatic, hydrokinetic and electric transmissions. Mechanical gears ended their development long ago. Luke
