"Did I mention how much I love the government?" 😆😆 I really like how you guys do the planting in and around your waterfeatures. The pine trees and conifers, light and dark, green, red, it looks beautiful and natural. If you ever have the time to explain how to create such a composition and how to plant flowering plants, like Calla's for example, in your pond, I would greatly appreciate it.

Excellent video. I've had a pond since 1995. My wife and I dug it ourselves by hand. Could day we were young and dumb. We really didn't know what we were doing. We just wanted a koi pond. It's about 1000 gallons. Turns out we did most of it right. In retrospect we should have put a skimmer system and bog filter in. We just didn't know about them at the time. We have had so many off spring thousands and thousands of koi fri over the years. Water Lillie's grow like crazy. They stand 12 to 16" above water line.

That’s awesome- I wish I could see it! We just ordered some ISG lilies for the Oasis and I am SO EXCITED to get them this week! It is going to be awesome. There is nothing more satisfying than sitting by a completed pond that you built yourself. I will never be done with mine LOL! Every time I sit I think of things I want to add to it!! Thanks for the interaction ;) Great to talk to real people

Such great tips. Its so important to have the i's dotted and the t's crossed when building a pond. It's such an investment that costs 💰. John have you gotten to throw the grandkids out your window into the pond yet? Lol...seeing your window made me think to ask...lol...I can visually see it in my head...lol. God bless 😊
@KoiAddiction

I ran and jumped out of the window lol! I am nervous about tossing the grandkids now-they are bigger and the window opening is quite small…Afraid to hurt someone playing around. I need to swap out the window!

Your tutorials have taught me a lot. Is the oasis completely finished? If it is, could you do a long slow walk through the entire project with enough perspective from afar that we can see what you accomplished. I followed the project, but when it got toward the end, there was not really "closure" and I feel hungry and traumatized. Good advice on the low spot nix, There is so much to know. Sorry a better choice of words would be 'starved for details' and 'less hurried'. Good video.

I will for sure. We had so many people visiting and publishing spoilers I had to put out the end. I will also do more as soon as I can make the time. We ended sort of at the wetland and then went straight to the after video. There is def more to come I just want to give it the time it deserves because its gold!!

I'll talk to you. I'm the 6'5", 250lbs longhaired freaky people on the right. I'm on a platue in Spencer Tennessee. I want a my future pond between my future home and the current drop-off that splits my property. There's stone - a LOT of stone. I want the pond to be long and narrow, similar to the feature Aquascape has just to the left of the door as you walk in (I can IM on Facebook if you've forgotten what that feature looks like). I know where I want it. There likely will be some runoff issues we'll need to discuss because I want to say there's at least a 300' elevation change within the 900' that is my property. That said, most of the chage happens in chunks, but there is a gradual change on the top 2(ish) acres. Depending on your schedule and availability, I'd be happy to walk you through what I'm thinking. I'll even Listen with an open mind and heart to your counter ideas and see what we see when we get there. We can discuss over a pop or seven at the nearby watering hole (Calfkiller in Sparta). The why is a bit more complicated. I've always wanted a pond. Like many, water calms me. In a way, it allows me to find peace within myself when my thoughts get away from me or, in more recent years, go dark. It has always been able to do that. Of course, there's more to it than that, but inbthebinterest of keeping this post shorter than Tolstoy's War and Peace, I'll forgo the telling of of my tale of woe for the now, and leave that for when we meet in person, on-site, for the conciliation 😜

outstanding overview of a project and its potential pitfalls. I do want to ask about the mature tree issue you touched on. I have a big redwood that I want to build a feature next to. I'm afraid that if I berm up the area next to the tree it will cover the root zone and harm the tree. Can you put a liner and rock over a root zone? thanks
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction Год назад
You can but be mindful. Don’t cover too large of a portion with too much liner and or soil mounding. I usually try not to disturb any more than 25% of the drip zone of a tee as a general rule. If there is a major concern I would always consult a professional arborist and be sure to do proper feeding / watering enhancements during the traumatic “construction” phase and the following year as well!

I know that you can use the concrete pads to protect from chipmunks and moles, but how would you bear proof a pond?
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction Год назад
Boulders too big to roll, rock pad under the liner and concrete cloth on the bottom of the stream and pond areas!

Hello sir, I was wondering if you had any advice or guidance for someone who has plans to build their own Rec Pond? I’ve already done a small goldfish pond, but now I have the itch to take It to the next level 😄 Thank you for all your great content.
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction Год назад
Definitely do 30% on the wetland. I highly recommend a good jet system for circulation as well. Size the pond then size the wetland at 30% then use the wetland size to calculate required flow for filtration. Then figure out how much flow for jets. Combined total flow rates to determine the size of your intake requirements. That should pretty much do it other than a boatload of hard work :-)

I have a question regarding an existing pond my cousin has. Is there a way to add the natural filtration system without tearing up the whole pond. I think it is spring fed but not sure. He has a fountain to keep water moving. I know occasionally he has issues with leaches and treats the water with something. How does it work if someone already has an existing natural pond. Thanks
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction Год назад
We can add filtration to an earthen pond or existing pond, just depends on the feature what that looks like or involves. We have a video somewhere in the channel adding a filter to a farm pond that. Highlights an example of that!

I am starting in the business, with a client with a tiny space. I am struggling to fit a pond with waterfall. It is 1.45x2.8 meters and I feel that at minimum, the free eater at the top should be 0.8x08m. how to build the most straight wall as possible whilst cover with stones. I have stones here around 12cm of depth, by around 20, 25cm. How to do straight walls? Sorry about metric. A fan from Brazil
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction Год назад
Gotta just build vertical walls with very little “slope”. Makes for slow stacking and must backfill with smaller rock to make it more stable. There is no other way if you have to do a pond in such a small space!!

@Daniel_morfogeno

when you say: "Size the pond then size the wetland at 30% then use the wetland size to calculate required flow for filtration" You mean the flow rate is based solely on the wetland or wetland+pond? Around 4X the total volume is ok? And then you say: "Combined total flow rates to determine the size of your intake requirement", What is the rule of thumb or formula to calculate the intake bay? Thanks in advance
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction Год назад
Wetland surface is 30% of pond surface. Needed flow for filter is 2000 gallons per hour per centipede. Jets and additional waterfalls are optional to your taste, but the over all combined flow rate will be used at the end to size the intake, bay👍
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction Год назад
Intake bay is one large aqua block per 500 to 1000 gallons per hour of flow rate depending on whether you’re being a minimalist
