I recently purchased my first ESEE, a Gibson Axe, very happy with that design/purchase. I am now looking for a companion blade for it and the PR4 is definitely in the top running ! These videos are really good for those of us that like to know the design process, thanks for sharing.
I've been using the Pr4 now for about a year. Its works very well for getting wood prepared, doing feather sticks. Feathers. Scrapings , and let me say for it's small size and weight it's a "Batoning beast" use it all the time for batoning wood. Wrist size and at times alittle bigger. .. also, to cut decent size wood using a baton stick works very well. Great job on the Making of the Pr4. Next blade I want to get is the Jg5 . Also a junglas as well. I'll make a video soon enough on me batoning and such with the Pr4.
Patrick Rollins wanted to make a do-all knife that would offer a lot of options and tasks. Thin enough to maintain cutting efficiency but robust enough to handle some heavy lifting.....I think he found a great balance.
This knife has been my main/carry/do everything knife for almost 2 years and it's great! The steel is amazing, it sharpens up great and really holds an edge. I love the size, weight, even how it feels in my hand. I bought a kydex sheath from Azwelke and never looked back!!!
Love the PR4. Together with my Mora Garberg my favorite knifes. And by the way you guys are so cool. Just doing youre bushcraft thing with Crocs shoes on hahaha love it 😉👍🏼 Really love a knife with a story how and why so thumbs up. If you ever come to Scandinavia i would love to tend your classes.
best knife i have ever used in my life,and i have been a extreme knife user for 40 years. Started when i was 2;-)) And allmost grown upp in the woods here in Norway. Started early collecting knifes,got a shitload of them,and this is the best knife for whittling,woodswork and edc i have ever used. Saw ThePreppersBunkersOutdoors vid on it and bought it. Now i want one moore,because i will not live without one in my life. If i loose it i got one extra. It cuts wood like it was a light saber,i cant describe it. I am blown away and deeply in love with this knife. Thank you so much for making it!!!!
Ordered it today. No really, I ordered it today. Wife is going to be pissed but hey I will have a good knife to go hide in the woods with until she cools off. Which should take about 3-4 days.
If you guys would use the coating from the PR4 and put that on an ESSE 6, and keep that spine sharp, there would be A LOT of happy people out there and I would be one of them. Nice looking knife btw.
I received this knife as a Christmas present from my wife this year! Im so excited to use this in the field. Been wearing it around the house and already oiled the sheath with my beard oil.
I got mine today and everything about this knife is perfect! It's everything I wanted in a hiking and camp blade. Everything I wanted in the 4 but didn't have. This and my forest axe is all I need.
I talked to Patrick Rollins on the phone a few days ago, great guy! I was absolutely elated, that I was talking to him! We talked about this knife. He said they're hoping to have it available to consumers by November.
Hey just purchased the PR4 so far it is a good blade. I have your Ka-Bar BK14 Becker Knife and Tool Eskabar Knife. I am very impressed with it. I feel I need to save up for the ESEE Junglas II Knife With Sheath. A good friend of mine, Jacob Peterson, has one and talks very highly of it. Thank you for bring the PR4 to our attention
Great video, i like the look of this knife a lot. I know im a little late to the game but my excuse is im in the UK lol. The only thing i would suggest or add is a ferro rod with the sheath, i believe all knives are naked without one!. Great knives i have a custom ESSE 5 and hopefully more in the future. I wish esse would offer liners so the scales fill larger hands better ,But the knife connections scales turn The pr4 into the perfect knife ,I love the knife so much now that I have these scales I purchased a second pr4 .
Glad to hear you've found a solution... from our standpoint no matter what we do we displease roughly 49% of the folks out there...if we made the scales on the PR4 thicker we'd have some complaining that they were TOO thick... we have a lot of folks that love it as is... it's impossible to please everyone and Patrick liked the scales as they were and he's got massive mitts...so that's how we ended up with those scales.
Say Heah Guy's, First of all, I really like those Mountain Track Handles, I do have a couple of Knives in that handle. Very comfortable and somehow my fingers find the scallops and fit right in. I tenner when the Kephart craze started, Infact I bought my Blind Horse Bushcrafter, then my O. K. C. Blackbird SK-5, But on my Blind Horse I had the handles made flat and had them polished, it came out looking like a High End Kephart. I still use mine. But your right, Sometimes I do team it with my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet or at this time of the year where brambles can get pretty rough to get through, I like teaming it with one of my Summer Long Knives, My Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Parangatang. Regardless what combo I use you can't go wrong with a Kephart design. I really like the simplicity of your new Kephart Knife, the handles and the blade length. All the new Esse's coming out now with the 3D handles : 3,4,5,&6 models...great ! But the one knife that needed it the most is the PR4. Almost everyone complains the scales are too thin. this stopped me cold from ever buying that knife , otherwise I'd probably have a few of them. Are you guys even considering making improved scales for it ? Older vid I know , but maybe there's a chance ?
Randall's Adventure / ESEE Thanks. I did see the liner project I was thinking more along the lines of the 4hm scales. I will wait and see I know you guys are receptive to customers input. I’ve been very happy with the all the Esse knives I have .(older 3.4.5.6 .junglas .etc) But the PR4 with rounder, and thicker scales would be a real hit .Im sure. Thanks.
I love mine, but I would like it even more with liners to add a bit of thickness to the handle! I would like my ESEE 3 to have linen micarta scales...the material is too slippery for my taste...! My Izula II: just perfect...I had a custom kidex sheath made for it, but I would prefer a horizontal carrying!
Great looking knife . But what is wrong with the regular Esse 4? I have one but I can't figure out if I should strip it from the heavy coating on the blade. Or should I just leave it alone. But I do want to use it for food preparation. Please help me out.
Quick question on the food prep with the black oxide finish or even the powder coat on the other esee knives, does it add any discoloration of toxins to the food that you know of. I know there are a couple ways to produce the black oxide and one way produces a chemical affect that is not recommended to be ingested. I obviously have no background in chemistry and want the basic info on what your stance is.

Golam Rabbi yes. The PR4 is in our Camplore line. All knives in the Camplore series come with a leather sheath. Our goal is to provide kydex solutions in the future but there are already numerous kydex offerings in the secondary market.
