I really appreciate that you edited in the handle thickness for us to see, that's so important to knife people like myself. A handle can make or break whether some of us will buy it. Take for instance benchmade knives; well made...but it feels like you're holding a measuring ruler. PS great video review
Your comedy will get you far. I can't wait for this channel to blow up big. Light hearted fun and sharp sarcasm... Not enough youtubers think like you. Thats why I think more people will find intrested in your vids.
You deserve more viewers. Production is top notch. I'm jealous of that knife. I wish I had something that could be called "BULBOUS". The ladies only tell me it's thin behind the edge.
I took a survival class from Patrick and it was awesome. He knows his stuff and he's a really nice guy. I think I'm gonna buy one of these. My current knive is to big to carry daily but this one might be edc able.
Have you ever looked into the Steel Will Druid series? I recently got the Druid 265 and it’s great. Good ergonomic handle (IMO), decent sized blade for most outdoor tasks (IMO), under $50 and it comes with a great leather sheath (IMO).
Son, you sir, are hilarious. Honest and a good reviewer. It is like I am listening to well, me. LOL the sarcasm is great and done, spot on. I am eager to listen to more of your reviews. I also recently purchased a PR4. I heard that the PR4 is coming to the end of it production run. for 100.00 it was a good deal. Nice companion blade for bushcrafting things than those huge choppers. Well off to watch more of what you have to offer. Thanks.
Dude your reviews are awesome ... Liked and Subscribed. Just getting into knives and have seen a bunch of reviewers that take themselves too seriously.
Another great review!... How much Drakkar Noir did it take to cover up "nature's perfume"? I personally like the all the You Tube off grid videos to be played back using massive solar panels!
Pretty nice to see some reasonably thin blade stock. An Esee that can actually slice. I'll be damned. It's almost as good as a $12 Mora. Keep at it Esee! But seriously though, it looks pretty nice other than that overly aggressive handle.
+marshalllaw123 For me the kansbol is a tad too thin... I like no flex... but it doesn’t need to be heavy. The Esee gets closer to that. Although it’s at least $100 mora.
I was going to ask if you'd covered any Condor fixed blades, then I remembered that huge-o machete thing you reviewed recently. Their more standard sized fixed blades have always made me happy. Good price, decent build quality.
+Fitz Mouse I’m actually quite interested in condor and tops stuff... unfortunately a very large car repair bill is going to force me to review donated crap and Chinese stuff for a few months.
It find it cool - or maybe even awesome - that you use a Vangedal Rover! Esees are silly expensive here in the EU, but if I were to get one, I think I would go for the Laser Strike and get rid of the coating.
+Lars Buskkraft the rover is a great knife. It actually was my main camp knife when the Junglas II broke on me. I batoned fire wood and make food with it. It’s versatile and durable.
That Esse 4 must be really inexpensive what with 1095 steel and lots of chunks off the handle.Your health and safety is a credit to you,I was watching you chop wood through my hands.Do you have a knife sharpening vid on your channel.Stay safe.
Thanks. I just got home a little bit ago, and wanted to re-watch this video in 1080p on the big screen. So I could get a better look at this blade finish. Would you liken this coating to a stone washed bluing, kind of?
I really like your videos and dry humor. Very vey informative and love all the comparisons. Yiur channel would skyrocket even more if you drop the foul language. This video gets a huge upvote from me.
There have been quite a few videos where I didn’t swear- and haven’t seen a big difference in views. With as long as I’ve been doing this now, it’s not something can be undone. Sorry, this channel isn’t for everyone... and if it’s not my swearing, it’s my bad jokes, or depressing voiceover. Luckily a lot of people get it- and instead of trying to “change me” they are just happy I’m doing something different.
Hi, I would like to take a great compact bushcraft / survival knife that you can rely on, in your opinion this Esee Pr4 may be the right choice, let me know your opinion, thanks Michele.
Glen Blakley you are correct, guess I think of Black Flag before any of his other groups. I'm guessing Black Flags mainstream appeal has brainwashed me into thinking of them first.
As usual, great review. I think I commented on IG and mentioned that you should snag a Camillus Bushcrafter. Its an inexpensive USA made blade that is really great!
Nice, those look pretty good. I've heard good things and have actually spoken with the dude who designed it. Really cool guy too. When are you going to review it?
Great video, thank you! I like Kephart knives and would love to get something like this but, as a left-handed person, these right-hand-only leather sheaths are a deal breaker for me. ESEE could actually make an ambidextrous leather sheath that would probably be cheaper than the one they provide with this knife. As it is, I'd have to either wear it backwards or have a custom leather or Kydex sheath made for this, upping the cost by $40-50.
+nino71 I might do that. You can buy these at most home improvement stores...they’re good for sitting around in a backyard where you can’t dig a fire pit.
Think about asking for a hatchet for your birthday. To me, battoning is only for unexpected/emergency situations unless you want to carry something from a Crockadile Dundee movie.
Advanced Knife Bro sure, but works better when used like holy water. Sprinkle a little, strike ferro rod while chanting the power of sparks compels you. With all apologies to catholics
With this class of knife being so competetive, I honestly do not know why they use such a thin handle, especially on a knife designed to be used in bushcraft type use. I guess its more of an aesthetic choice but I think its becoming common knowledge that fatter handles are really much preferred by nearly everyone for actually knife use.
No worries...I really like your vid's. Just throwing some goofy quotes out there from time to time. Not sure if you've done a review on the Tops tanimboca puukko, I just got it, definitely worth a look.
+Damen0530 I was seriously considering buying one this summer (or was it late spring?) when they came out. Great to hear it’s a nice one. I need some Tops knives that’s for sure.
I am with you on leather sheaths. I won't spend the price of a knife on a kydex sheath. Stupidity. I have never went swimming with my leather sheath knives.
The only thing I didn't like about this one is it doesn't retain an edge that long. Or maybe I got one with a botched heat tempering. I noticed that Ontario's 1095 is stronger than ESEE's 1095, it stays sharp longer & it shouldn't be like that, ESEE knives are twice the price of Ontario's knives.
First time viewer, nice! Let me expand on a few things. 1. This channel has a lot of satirical elements thrown in. Think of the character in the videos as a useful idiot. 2. The batoning in my videos is generally done hastily, and with stuff I have lying around. I don't heat with wood, and do not have a stack of seasoned firewood laying around. Batoning is a running joke on the channel- and if you read the comments a lot of people love it. The worse and more useless it looks the better. If that's not funny to you then that's fine. 3. I think I mention in in this review- but I had just literally broken a Junglas 2 while camping- doing real batoning for the camp fire... with real fire wood... and it broke the blade. I used the warranty for that knife, and it was pretty simple. Watch my Junglas 2 review for pictures. So I abused the PR4 blade a little more as a point of illustration that my Junglas 2 failure was a fluke. Here are the goals of my videos. 1. To entertain. 2. Provide measurements and closeups of the blade. 3. Provide basic thoughts on ergonomics and overall durability and fit and finish of a knife. 4. Discussion of knife trends and observations of knife culture by way of jokes. You will not find useful survival tips, real discussion of self defense methods or expert bushcrafting techniques. That's not what I'm good at, and that's not the goal of this channel. Thanks for watching!
Just saying, one of the reasons I miss your stuff is that it doesn't pop up when there is any new stuff, I don't know if it's due to RU-vid's totallynotatallbiased system or whatever.
Shit. Well I usually do two videos a week and upload them on monday and tuesday. My scehdules been weird lately so my videos have been irregular. At least my name is alphebetical and you can see on your main RU-vid page if I have uploaded any new videos (left side of the screen near the top).
I wish that always worked, the reason I saw there was something new now was that it showed you had 1 (one) new video, but then it turned out you had a lot more, it feels more like your channel isn't really showing what you're actually and that something throttles the updates.
Yeah, I don't know, man. Whenever I see an Esee, Tops or Ka-bar, all I end up thinking is "overpriced 1095". I like 1095. It's a time-proven, tough outdoor steel, but it doesn't hold an edge and rusts in a heartbeat. Also, it's pretty damn cheap these days. These American knife companies need to up their game or lower their prices. You can buy 4 similar sized, Chinese produced, 1095 fixed blades from Schrade for the same price, and they hold up just as well. No use paying a fortune just because Esee has a great warranty.
You missed a perfect “that’s what she said” moment when you talked about the blade length or maybe you chose not to take the low hanging fruit. That might make the first time you passed on an easy joke. . .I’m not happy about it.
Bro's you don’t need too tools to get a spark to start a fire. And we don’t have to go Paleozoic to start camp fires. A 4 yr cousin set his cotton socks on fire messing around in my dad's garage. Think of what the 4 yr old used? 🤔 Answer this question? Rule out matches and lighters.
You just sold Chimineas to fake ass Bushcrafters everywhere.. I just bought PR4 so I can be a fake ass Bushcrafter. I’ll get a Chiminea next month. Thanks!
It find it cool - or maybe even awesome - that you use a Vangedal Rover! Esees are silly expensive here in the EU, but if I were to get one, I think I would go for the Laser Strike and get rid of the coating.
