Now that the video's out, I wanna talk more about these characters since there were some parts that I didn't describe in the video. First of all, just like how Aeris had designs for 4 of the talents they gave me, I have designs for my version of the Ultimate Marine biologist (who is much different from Akiko Haha. Im sure they'd get along though) and Ultimate Golfer. I also kind of somewhat have an idea for the plumber, but it's not as fleshed out as the previous two. I haven't drawn these characters yet, but I will draw them soon if you guys are interested (as well as go more in depth with their personality). To be really simple, the marine biologist was a really spooky suspicious type who joked about how easily others could die in detail, and the golfer dude was kind of a brute-ish punk hoogligan dude. For Luke, I bascially described everything you need to know about him in the video, but I do have an execution idea for him, despite being the protag (its kind of like a bad ending thing, simmilar to Makoto's execution) called either "I'm sorry" or "Long live the King". Basically, it has luke kind of standing on some sqare platform as it starts to rise rapidly. When you zoom out you see that he's on the top bar of a bar graph (think youtube statistics and stuff) Luke looks down to see a bunch of little monokumas dressed as 1700's french revolutionaries, except for the leader of these little monokumas, who is dressed as the Ultimate Lucky student girl. Luke tries to hop down on the lower platforms but the monokumas topple all the other platforms and they are slowly climbing up luke's. With no other place to go, luke jumps backward, either jumping inside a noose or having his head chopped off midair with a guilotine like machine. His execution is mainly a reference to how fans turn on their creators after they did something controversial, and the execution of King Louis the XVI, which happened during a revolution to overthrow him. (Also the fact that, after he gained the trust of all his classmates by the end, he "betrayed" them by "killing" someone) The Noose/Guilotine is a reference to forms of execution used back in the day. The noose seems more logically cohesive, but the Guilotine is more accurate to King Louis XVI's death. Personally, I think I'm siding with the guilotine thing. One more fact about Luke is that he was born and spent his childhood in France before moving to America and eventually becoming the influencer he is today. The reason why he's the ULTIMATE influencer is that it wasn't completely out of luck. He used many deliberate tactics and smart marketing moves to gain as much fame as possible. Luke's actually Hope's peak's transfer student to a japanese hope's peak, which is interesting because his Student Transfer exchange actually relates to another Fangan idea that I might talk about in another video... Keep an eye out on that. So that's why Luke has an english name while everyone else doesn't. For Chikako Aota, I left a lot of things out in the video because I didn't fully flesh her out when designing her, but now I did! Chikako is a very chipper and fun loving girl who makes sure to smile even in the face of danger. For such an childish character, she actually is one of the most mature when it comes to the students dying, and takes in the bad wells relatively well (as in she goes through the five stages of grief easier, not that she doesn't mind people dying). Instead of bawling her eyes out or being too scared to speak (like what you would expect out of her) she tries everything she can to comfort the people who do the former (like silently hugging them or making them something to cheer them up). She's one of those people who tells the others to avoid thinking about the killing game entirely and instead focus on living in the classroom/hotel/titanic/etc. for the rest of their lives. After all, Chikako's talent was literally discovered by making the most of a bad situation. When Chikako was little, her parents divorced and she lived with her mom. At the time, she was really into baking and thought that would be what she would be when she grew up. Unfortunately, on one fateful night, Chikako's mom died in a car accident (Chikako was also there but unharmed. Also she was around 7-9 at the time), and for the rest of her life, had to live with her father, who was completely different from her mother. I wouldn't say her dad was downright abusive, but he was pretty neglectful. He had to go to work a lot more often meaning that chikako was left alone most of the time(don't worry she went to a public elementary school), and the times he was home he spent watching TV and drinking beer until he had to tuck chikako into bed (which really was the only interaction they had.) On the surface, it seemed like her dad was apathetic but Chikako could tell that he was really sad on the inside (The only reason Chikako would be under his ownership is if her mom died, and even though they divorced, he's still sad that his ex wife died and that Chikako will be under a less prepared family system). Chikako never likes seeing people sad, so she wanted to make a very special gift for him to cheer him up. Since the only thing Chikako knew about her dad is that he drank beer, she decided her gift to him will be a very tasty beer. However, when she tried a taste of her dad's beer, it didn't taste very good to her. So she grabbed a bunch of stuff from the fridge and used her baking skills to make the beer taste better. Once her dad got home, Chikako offered him the "yummy beer," and he yelled at her because children shouldn't be messing with alcohol, but once he was done he tried a bit of it and was shocked. Not only was it good, it was REALLY, REALLY good. It's probably the best thing he has tasted in years. He runs back to chikako, apologizes for yelling at her, and talks about how she made this and that he's honestly really impressed. He then goes and shows his friends about his daughter's "yummy beers" and they basically had the same reaction as the dad originally did. Word spread to mouth and she was actually able to work as a mixologist in secret, and she did a really good job as well. For the first time after her mom died, she finally felt loved again. Also her motto is to "always see the glass half full!" (get it!?)
Feminine trans and nonbinary characters are valid and Aeris' and Winces are top tier characters. The colors are very unique and I can see the personalities and talents clearly from the designs. The lemon and blue mix was creative, the hair was a really cool way to express cockiness, the smile was perfect for a big softie character, the contrast between the suspicious hints and the cutesy mannerisms were hilarious and the posing was great in all of them.
I never realized how important the design is to a danganronpa character till this video. I have to thank you because me and my friends are going to start making a fanganronpa soon. We already have the talents and some cases planned.
I would actually be very interested on hearing more about Luke. Since I feel like he could be a transfer student or someone who actually liked Japan's culture so much he learned how to speak Japanese, showing his hidden dedication and learning skills which make him a believable protagonist in the class trials side of things since we do have to consider that they do have to solve murder cases. I feel like he would get a really special kind of development and interaction from the rest of the cast, in which rather than them growing on the protagonist, the protagonist grows on them. I also like every talent that has something to do with psychology so more about Mizuki please. She seems like a character who's secretly very emotional but due to the hardships she has had to see throughout her years she puts up a lot of emotional barriers, making her an interesting character to keep in the game since maybe she could open up to very certain people in the killing game, maybe someone in the cast becomes her patient during the killing game showing another totally different side of her too. And it's shown in a way that doesn't feel way too drastic or gimmicky (Maki I like you but...). Another thing that would've been an interesting concept is to make the Ultimate Psychologist younger, and to make it so that their career as a psychologist hasn't gone for too long but for the time it's gone it's been a perfect track record. It would make a much different type of character making them more emotional and much more open to help other people with the downside that it sometimes feels like they treat everyone like they are their patient. All in all I like these ideas :=)
*looks at non-existent watch, then realize I have nothing to do until the premiere of the video* Yeah. I can make it. But also I'm really looking forward to this so much!
So I've been considering an idea for a revised 3-2, where it would be more like Chapter 1-4 instead of having someone target ryoma. I don't know how others would feel about it, so I thought I'd share my opinion here
It's actually a somewhat common case change in fanfiction. I've seen a lot of rewrites of 3-2 to keep the chapter the same but instead of Ryoma getting killed by Kirumi he commits suicide after Kirumi gets seconds thoughts. At least that's the common rewrite I've seen. Everything from there on out changes a lot.
This might seem kinda out of left field but I think I already headcanon chikako aota's father possibly being into men, this is mostly because Chikako seems to pick up a lot of things from their dad, for example their mixology talent. I feel they might have picked up the handkerchief from their father. I think this is important as many mlm used handkerchief's as code to signal to other mlm that they were into men and what they were looking for without being outded. I think Chikako's father might have worn a white handkerchief and Chikako liked the idea and took it without understanding the meaning behind it, I feel that would also fit well into their character of saying and do things that are very out of place and suspicious but having an innocent intent.
Its funny because Chikako's dad is divorced and used to have a wife, but now doesn't. I don't think they divorced out of malice, but just that things didn't work out for the both of them. (This happens a lot when one of the spouses turns out to be gay) I really like this headcanon! (and I technically will now adopt it)
Social Media Influencer is a fantastic idea for a Danganronpa character. I could even see them filling the Nagito/Kokochi role if it fit the game’s theme (not the character Wince created of course, but a different interpretation). Wince’s personality role was a really cool idea too!
Yeah lol, I love giving characters name puns, like one of my characters parents, his name means talent, or talentful yet he is like one if not the only parent who Dosent have an ultimate
me: **sees the time aka **00:00**** my geography, chemistry, physics, religious studies and english test that’s tomorrow: also me: psshh, i’ve got enough coffee
I’ve hardly finished the video, but I think it’d be interesting if the ultimate cheerleader is depressed, having never received any support from anyone and had not learnt about support until cheerleading. Cheerleading makes them happy, and learning about support, friendship and love whilst doing so towards others. Just a thought
I love all of the character designs that came out of this video! This kind of gives me an idea of what to think about when designing my own Fangan characters. You guys are really talented and I would love to see you collab more in the future!
I had an idea for a ultimate cheerleader who would be progananist for most of daily life and parts of deadly life when geting truth bullets like a characters account and ones were you need to ask a characters to use there talent to help with truth bullets.
This is an interesting challenge and if I had friends I would totally do this XD Mixologist is actually a good talent because the ultimate mixologist can just make Mocktails, non alcoholic drinks. I learnt how to make them in highschool in hospitality (living in Australia), so it wouldn't be a far stretch for a student to be a mixologist but only for mocktails until they graduate highschool
I have an ultimate volleyball champion, and my sister has an ultimate pilot, ultimate fencer, ultimate fashion designer, ultimate carpenter, and like 7 others
She did nothing though, she got past one class trail then froze to death like a punty person. Oh I’m so big brain then dies. Stupid. Waste of a character.
Yeah I've got an Ultimate Psychologist too but she gets temporarily blinded to stop her reading body language and "make the game fair." There's also the Ultimate Ophthalmologist who tries to fix the blindness so they're often together and they end up being the two deaths in chapter 3, although not killed by the same person.
Those characters all look super duper cute! It was interesting to hear what you said about making an Ultimate Cheerleader unique since I have an Ultimate Cheerleader in my own Fangan. Her whole gimmick is about how she doesn’t want to be seen as Cliché, since the Cheerleader trope is so prevalent in Western media. (my Fangan cast is from America and Europe.) She tries to dress in ways that normally don’t give off the vibes of someone who’s a cheerleader, even if she has to wear her uniform to events and things. She tries to come off more commanding, but can easily be knocked down, and is just a super anxious person who doesn’t want to be assumed to be like a Ditzy Disney Channel Cheerleader.
I really enjoy the ideas presented in the video, and this got me thinking about what characters I would like to see have talents. I personally enjoyed the idea of Akiko and how she is happy and go-lucky and is prideful of her work. I really would love to know more about her. I enjoyed Chikako and her story. How she can do things in such a bad atmosphere. Also, I really would love to see the reactions of how she says she is the “Ultimate Roller Skater” and proceeds to fail and become suspicious. I would love to see how people react. I really loved all the characters personalities and designs, and how they give a lot of ideas in how to make different characters and see how people interpret the ideas.
Everyone: Danganrompa character designs are the most important part Me who made a whole fanganronpa in my math notebook with 16 different colored stickfigures:
while excellent designs are certainly a bonus, a whole fangan with stick figures can still be interesting! to me the most important thing is characterisation - i'd definitely rather read well-characterised stick figures than badly characterised intricate designs.
@@DetectiveNyx I have a challenge for you I wanna see how you can say I’m making all of that DICE🎲Members Giving them ultimate talents and different clothing you cannot use an ultimate talent that’s already been used That’s all have Fun
i also noticed that danganronpa has at least 1 character whos talent is intrinsically tied to japanese culture: thh had mondo, hifumi, and junko (bosozoku, doujin author, and gyaru in the original japanese) sdr2 has hiyoko, peko, and fuyuhiko (traditional dancer, kendoka/swordswoman, yakuza) and v3 has tenko (aikido master) personally, ive made an ultimate geisha, and have ideas for an ultimate rakugoka and ultimate kabuki actor
Hey Aeris, just to say that your content has inspired me to (and been super helpful with) developing a fangan of my own. Thank you, keep up the good work!
At first I was like, wow, Wince sound really muffled down, then I saw that he was wearing his logo as a mask, so it makes sense. Nice attention to detail! (jk btw)
japan has cheerleaders! both the kind of cheerleaders most people think of (with the pom poms/ acrobatic routines) as well as their own cheerleaders unique to japan, oendan, which i would say is comparable to color guard with the use of taiko drums, megaphones, and waving flags and banners rather than acrobatics
There's actually a lot you could do with an ultimate psychologist. Honestly, psychology is such a diverse field that you can have all sorts of psychologists that aren't necessarily typed to therapy. You have developmental psychologists, forensic psychologists, legal psychologists, cognitive psychologists, even industrial/organizational psychologists. The potential for all sorts of psychologists in Danganronpa is incredible.
I too have began designing my own Danganronpa characters. It originally started with me coming up with my own talents, then transitioned into making characters based off said talents
ok but I'm super happy that a marine biology talent was included- it's my special interest and my career goal!! also love that you made her fat cuz I am too :D
Wow, this video is 1 year old!? Time really does flies, huh? Thanks to this video, I've made a ton of new OCs and made a story that I am still working on to this day. Thank you so much Aeris for doing this collaboration with me. It was an incredibly fun time, and I hope we'll work together I the future too!
Ha, I'm working on a proof of concept for a Fangan right now (mostly I want to see if it's possible to write one with the trial as the opening scene) and there's a Barista and Mixologist in the bunch! VERY different characters though.
A game designer Talent would be incredibly OP in a killing *game*. They don't just design video games, but tabletop and live action games. It wouldn't be too far out of the question that they would be the Mastermind, since they designed the Killing Game, perhaps out of boredom.
I got inspired as I was wondering how a pair of roller skates would be with chikako when she got kidnapped/had her memory wiped. I thought what if it’s woven into talent and backstory through her using roller skates to commute to her workplace, to the store to buy mixer ingredients, etcetera? This would show she is dedicated to her job while simultaneously highlighting how young she is for it. It could even become an overarching plot element; for example the time skip could be hinted at when we see a picture of the supposedly unlicensed Chikako driving a car.
This is what I have for my 20 ultimates so far for my fangan idea: Ultimate Webcomic Maker Ultimate Vigilante Ultimate Neo-Darwinist Ultimate Animator Ultimate Fantasy Writer Ultimate Roboticist Ultimate Meteorologist Ultimate Helpbot Ultimate Animal Enthusiast Ultimate Anime Scientist Ultimate Actor Ultimate Lawyer Ultimate Remixer Ultimate Violinist Ultimate e-Sports Ultimate Football Star (not Futball) Ultimate Obstacle Master Ultimate Corporal Ultimate Ninja Ultimate Spellcaster
When you mentioned the Ultimate Mixologist, my mind immediately went to Identity V. They had a collaboration with Danganronpa, that included a Junko costume for the Barmaid. It comes with a disclaimer that all of Junko’s mixes are non-alcoholic “sodas” since she’s underaged. (I don’t actually play the game, I just stumbled across it on the internet one day. I don’t know if this affects the gameplay in any way.)
