Allow me to introduce you to Sophie Paterson: socket hider extraordinaire! Lol! I love that you go around hiding all your sockets! An excellent insight into your design process and a very honest breakdown of mistakes you have made and things you would have done differently. Great work!

I think my favorite thing was the surprise of having an aubergine sofa. It was muted enough to blend well with both rooms, but was just enough to keep the room from being too tonal. Also all the socket hiding. Very lovely home and may it bring you much joy.

Totally agree with putting the hob on the island and sink elsewhere. Island looks tidier as a result. We have a downdraft extractor which is amazing for keeping smells at bay when cooking. You also don’t have an extractor in the ceiling to clean.

I love the idea of moving the cutlery drawer away from the cooktop. An idea may be having a cabinet next to the dishwasher that opens traditionally, but then has drawers inside (similar to your small appliance cabinet near your freezer). For example, the top drawer would be the cutlery and then the lower drawers could be everyday plates. Thus, allowing the person emptying the dishwasher easy access for unloading, creating that uniform look on the cabinet front, and providing space for whoever is at the cooktop. In terms of the outlets I know here in the states most people will mount them underneath the upper cabinet creating the clean look on the back splash. I don't know if that would be a possible option in the UK with building codes and all.

Just doing the deep dive into past videos. I like your idea about where to put the cook top and sink, island vs bench. By putting the sink in the bench the overhead cupboards can be at a lower level. I find that overhead cupboards are useless unless you have a ladder. I use 2 shelves, the top shelf is too high. Sorry, bug bear rant over 😊

A little tip when it comes to sockets in the kitchen: If you don't want it to show and want a clutterfree counter: place then on the bottom of the top kitchencabinets or in the island with a hidden pop-up socket.

When children growing up we entertained a lot and I cooked alot. And the thing I wished I could hide was the pots and pans on the cooktop as I was bringing as the hot food to the table. The sink area under a window is best so you can look outside while doing dishes and prepping food/cleaning vegetables. Important to run and empty dishwasher before company arrives. Mirror on backsplash is disaster for serious cooking, splash is great place for beautiful stone or tiles. Need a good washable rug under your feet when you are cooking and to catch spills and drops. Glass cooktop for heavily used kitchen is tricky. You need to clean it a lot to look decent.

The bar stools while custom & gorgeous Sophie I’ve run into a glitch when a larger person cannot fit into the bar stool bc it has arms - I’ve decided stools with arms are not appropriate in the kitchen . Also a lease note as an observation the counter stools all 4 do not appear to have ample space next to one another. It doesn’t help a guest or family members feel inviting and comfortable .

If you cook a lot, or bake a lot, or both, don't reduce, you want to be able to plug in and if you have help cooking for big events also have them simultaneously plug in your whatever you need charged or operational at whatever point in the kitchen is convenient. She said at the start she is not cooking much so that's a completely different need set from someone who heavily uses their kitchen.

@zara67901 Год назад
I am OCD with regards to cleanliness and I would never choose a rough/textured tile for a kitchen or a bathroom because they would be hard to clean. Also, what are your thoughts on the kitchen cabinetry going up to the ceiling so you don't have to dust/clean on top of the cabinets? Also not a fan of the sharp corners on the worktops or dining table, not great for child safety
