Designing Suspension Kinematics with Roll Centers in Fusion 360 Sketches

In this video we take a deeper dive into sketch kinematics and work on setting up a more complex sketch with a chassis that can show some roll.
Now there is more we can do here and we made the assumption that the lower chassis point was locked to a vertical axis. To go a step further you would create a line extension from the chassis center line for the roll center, but baby steps!
If you want to download the sketch from the video you can find it here.

Really nicely presented and very clear. I especially like how you show examples of when things go wrong with the sketch and how to solve them as in the past, thats what gets me really stuck.

Thanks! And yeah nearly all of my vids are done in real time and i leave those problems and mistakes that pop up. Those are the real killers!

Thank you! Probably going to try drawing McPherson version of this! :)

Go for it! Should work fine, but what i would suggest is making the strut part out of two coliniear lines. One end of one line anchored on the chassis and the end of the other line anchored on the upright. If you plan the lines out you can have a driven dim between their endpoints and track the suspension travel.

Thanks Mario! It is a tough topic to water down so glad it came across ok.

Thanks a lot for all your videos. I've gone through many tutorials but yours are pretty damn clear and efficient.

Thanks Patrice! If there is every any content or topic you want just make a suggestion! This channel has been mostly Forms so far but I train CAD, CAM Simulation and Generative design with Fusion.

Actually... I'm working on a open source project... If we could chat about it a few minutes...

Great video! I guess I must be a little OCD, I wish you had shortened the upper arm sooner so it had negative camber, I felt a sigh of relief when you did!😂

This is great! And super useful. Is there any way to generate a report or graph showing change in certain angles or relationships in a sketch like this? Say, for example, I wanted to measure camber gain against wheel travel. I imagine I could move the wheel an inch at a time and manually record the camber angle as a driven dimension... but I feel like there must be some way to automatically generate such results.

Thanks Brook! So sadly your idea of moving it X number of degrees and recording the driven dimension is the only way I am aware to do this with Fusion 360. If you were using Inventor Or Solidworks you could plot a graph and export that but Fusion just doesn't have that built in as far as I know.

Tried to download the sketch but the site says the file is empty...

That is really strange Joe, I just tried and indeed it didn't like the fact that there was no body. When i open in fusion it shows a sketch but its empty for some reason. I tried to add a dummy solid body but it still said it was empty. I wonder if its a temporary issue with a360 and not the file. I tried to turn off the share link and back on but now the download option is missing. Try again with this link(same link) a360.co/3fE8ie9 This one with the dummy solid body works for me with the kinematics sketch. If it doesn't for you let me know and I'll figure out another work around.

Adding the solid body seems to have been the key... worked fine this try, thanks... I could have gotten along fine without it but was interested in why it didn't work...

@@Joemac05 Yeah thanks for noticing that! You must have been the first one to try and download it. I don't know why it wouldn't work but "the more you know" right :)
