Designing Your First Functional 3D Printed Parts | Basic Fusion 360 3D Printing

It is time to take your 3D printing to the next level and create your own designs. The steps are simple, and the process is easier than you are expecting. I am using the free version of Fusion 360 for modeling.
My 3D printer: amzn.to/3vBwuoE
My Digital Calipers: amzn.to/3B7ngSb
There are 4 basic steps of creating your own prints.
First you need to think of what you want to make. This may sound basic, but it is a very important step. I am starting with some functional designs that will help around the house. I wouldn't start too advanced for your first design. That way you won't get discouraged.
Second it sketching and measuring. Digital Calipers are cheap and make this step really easy. Also, don't over think your sketch. These don't have to be pretty, just so you can understand what you wanted to create.
Third is 3d modeling of your sketches. I am using Fusion 360, because it is really powerful and makes basic designs easily once you get a hang of it. I would recommend skipping TinkerCAD because even a design as simple as this would have been so much harder in TinkerCAD, but took 5 minutes in Fusion 360.
The Fourth Step is printing, and I would recommend printing at a prototype quality. That means weaker and faster than you normally would, because your first design might not work.
The gear I use:
Main Camera: amzn.to/2RNpEbV
Perfect Prime Lens: amzn.to/2Ls60ky
Sharpest Wide Lens: amzn.to/2XOj1v8
Telephoto Nikon Beast: amzn.to/2xqSUvz
Favorite Not RODE Mic: amzn.to/2C4W0se
Best Portable Vlog Mic: amzn.to/2u8kegF
Perfectly Smooth Gimbal: amzn.to/2MXBCgr
Camera Strap: amzn.to/2rvGtMd
Atomos Ninja V Recorder: amzn.to/2FL03LO
Affordable Studio Light: amzn.to/2rzdAic
Drone: amzn.to/2EgitUT
Great Camera Bag: amzn.to/2UykJg1

Just a tip, when you're printing your first prototype, reduce the extrude significantly so that it's quicker to print and utilizes far less filament.
@Soulfire702
@Soulfire702 11 дней назад
I also imagine that you should use a different filament for prototyping. I’m working on getting a 3D printer and in my head I imagine that I should have one set of filament for each color and I wouldn’t have to spend extra time painting the base color. I think it would be best to keep a extra set, or five, of a single color for prototyping. Am I correct in assuming that I can switch out filament after every print that I make?

@@Soulfire702 Hi, if you have the budget, get a Bambu Lab P1 with AMS. This is an auto colour changer. I've just started 3d printing, absolute beginner, and got my P1S with AMS less than a week ago. It does exactly what you want, auto colour change between 4 colours, great for prototyping in a single basic colour, then final print in multi colour. It's seriously so easy to use. Note the less expensive bambu lab A1 has similar functionality. Happy printing!

Keep in mind that a fillet will create an unprintable overhang since it is a radius feature. It doesn't matter as much on extremely small features but for features against the bed it is better to use a chamfer and good to get in the habit of keeping in mind the way your design will be manufactured. Good video for people who are wary of designing something themselves. Starting with these simple items that aren't likely to already exist is perfect. Showing that it is fine to not get something perfect the first time and understand the point of 3D printing is rapid prototyping.

@CharredChar
@CharredChar 2 месяца назад
@@cinemoriahFPV Supports are a waste of time and materials if a simple design change can eliminate them entirely. This goes back to the "designed with FDM in mind" mindset you should have when designing a part. Instead of relying on the Slicer settings, which won't be the same for everyone, try and make it not require such things at all.

Hey, just stumbled across your channel now, this being one of my recommended videos; the quality is great! I was captivated and watched the entire thing in one go. The way you explained yourself while modelling the parts were very beginner-friendly imo, I have some experience in fusion 360, but not a lot! The only thing that bugged me was not seeing the entire part in fusion, could probably scale down the facecam box a bit, maybe half of the current size? I didn't notice you talking quietly either for the modelling part of the video! Still had a great sound quality and volume. Deserves more subs for sure, hope YT recommends me some more of these videos!

This is exactly what I was looking for as I finally transition towards my printer being a useful tool. Speaking of useful tools though, you know that the tooth on the bottom of your calipers are for measuring depth? Because I never paid attention to that until recently, somehow. You might've been able to get it down into your air register. You probably knew that but maybe someone else didn't? I had them for years without realizing the use of that little peg.

Complete noob here, trying to understand the ecosystem. In this example at least, I guess Fusion 360 is the design software. Is Ultramaker Cura specific to the 3D printer hardware or do the 3D printers generally allow or force the user to choose the software that controls the printer? What is meant by “slice it up?”
@JJShankles
@JJShankles 4 дня назад
So Fusion 360 is just a 3D Design software that makes a 3d object. This could be used for several different use cases. The "slicer" software turns the 3d object file into the instructions needed by the printer to function. Cura is a really popular slicer that works for almost any printer, but some companies have their own slicer that may work better for their 3d printers

Stuck in Fusion 360 purgatory. Please Help. Simple Coil with an end that stands straight up from the centre of one end. I've tried the Sweep command and have managed to waste many hours trying to do this. I'm discouraged and frustrated in what should be an easy task. I was hoping you could do a beginner... step-by-step video on how to force drawings to a Zero "Z" access and Move commands. I often have to move my drawings from floating off the surface and place them back to the build plate level. I've wasted a lot of filament printing unnecessary supports. In addition can you please cover how to use the Move Commands and Sweep commands. My approach so far has been to brute force them with varying degrees of success.
