It's currently so hot in the UK and I've literally just done what you've said in your video and now my fan is working! Thank you for you're video you've saved me buying a new fan 😃
I haven’t seen one of those shaded pole motors on a fan like that before. I am guessing it was single speed and even less torque thanks the 3 speed ones. I made a video last week of a similar oven motor that i retired. I had oiled it once but 5or 6 months later it was slowing again. More oil and a clean would have cured it but There is a trade off somewhere. Time and money. £14 for a new oven fan. The work is in removing an oven and taking it asunder to get the fan out for oil. A new fan lasts longer than a cleaned and oiled one. I wonder if the bushings were heated to clean would they take more oil and make the repair last longer. But more work. Glad it’s winter and the range is on!
Owen, yes our Rayburn range is now going, toasty kitchen. I feel that there should be some way to get the bearings to soak up the oil. In an oven it's a bad environment and add to that maybe occasional use it's setting things up to fail. I use an oven snail fan to cool the main solar inverter every day (on a time switch). That hasn't stopped so maybe something in that. The desk fan has 2 speeds so I'm guessing there is some electrics in the base, it could be as simple as a resistor, Cheers
This way you can save brushed, cordless drill that just started to loose power. They bushes won't stop the motor when dried up, just will tear apart and get loose with no way to get fixed
How do I know you didn't switch fans?😅😅😅😅. That is an easy fix, I have done it a few times. I have also had to clean a bunch of dust that gets clogged on the shaft too.
Duane, yes there could be lots of fluff. I think that if fans are not used regularly then the bearings just tend to dry up. Just a matter of getting the oil to soak in, cheers
Ian, good point, I think the problem with vegetable oil is that some of them can dry up and crystallise, so just kicking the problem down the road. All households should have some basic tools, oil, and a multi meter, cheers
Vegetable oil is acidic when it gets older, just any bike/car/gun/sawing machine/saw/lawnmower oil would be great, but also WD 40 in worst case is fine
