Fantastic video addressing all of the concerns in doing this. Followed your advice and job was flawless! Thanks for taking the time to help others, much appreciated. Cheers,
After Watching your video, I went to Radio Shack and bought $40.00 worth of solder tools. I watched your video and fixed my door lock within one hour. I already knew that the middle relay was my problem because it contols the the door un locking. thank you so much for a very helpful instruction. Your presentation was spectactular... Thanks Nick Nicholas
Thank you VERY much, I have a few pinball machines and started doing some amateur soldering for some wiring on them, but now had a bad relay on a power board. This was my first time soldering on a board and was only able to find a $3 food baster, worked like a charm and did my first job on a board and am basically elated, lol.
Thanks for the great video! I Couldn’t get all of the solder out so I used a very small drillbit and drill it out worked like a charm. Also, gently prying with screwdriver underneath while soldering helped remove relay much better than trying to suck everything.
I repair all kinds of circuit boards. When relays click but don't conduct, I remove them, open then with a dremel, clean the contacts with a small diamond file, reassemble the relay with a little epoxy, resolder it and it works. Real fun and satisfying!
Hello mate. Many thanks for this video from Liverpool UK - i was able to remove a relay from an oven timer board with after watching it. My first desoldering attempt with the braid that came with my kit was OK but using your technique with a sucker has been really easy and looks really neat. I presume you took the time to put this video up for free despite the time it cost you and hope this message conveys some appreciation. Thanks again!
Thank you for the great instructions. Wish I had seen this before I spent 2 hours replacing the actuator, and still have the same problem. : ( Relays going on order right now. Thanks again! tt
Thank you. I have to replace a relay on my Hot Tub board ( in the UK) which regulates the heater on/off. £20 to replace the relay, £480 for the Hot Tub company to replace the Board !! I was not confident in how to remove a soldered replay - now I am. Would have been nice to see the soldering back on for a bit longer. What soldering iron would you recommend?
Would've been nice to watch the 4 joints get soldered at the end of the video though. After sitting through the whole video, you block out the soldering with your hands while you count each one off, "theres one, two, three..... but you cant see nothing. Pissed me off. But, I still gave it a big ol THUMBS UP! Thx for the vid. Btw, what is the name of the solder we use? Like rosin core or electrical something?
Hm. Yeah. That does suck, doesn't it? I'll make sure to be a little more careful next time...There's still plenty of other 'how to solder' videos out there. I just couldn't find any 'add a little solder to get the solder to melt' videos when I made this.
