Desperate Housewives - 2x20 Goodbye Baby Lily 

"Carlos, do something!" :( :( That always gets me. And Carlos is such a man's man too, and yet here he can legally do nothing.

This scene always makes me cry from start to finish, but always extra tears when she says "my husband he sings to her". :'(

Gabby became my favorite houswife after a few seaons (initially Bree was). I loved how she hid her emotions yet was actually very emotional.

And when she says "and my husband, my husband sings to her."

this gave me absolute chills, I fucking love Eva Longoria.

This scene has stuck in my mind for over a decade.. the acting is incredible. The emotion from Gabby who swore she never wanted kids. And Carlos being the "macho" husband type not being able to control anything. When he's the one who's wanted kids forever. 🥺

She said "we're gonna give the whole family thing a shot." What if it didn't work out? What if he left her? Lily would have been better off with Carlos and Gabby.

This scene killed me. Gabby was so shattered and Carlos knew there was nothing they could do. Eva Longoria doesn't get enough credit.

I love how this scene portrays Carlos' love for Gaby. Even though he's sad aswell he knows he can't fall apart because she needs him.. This scene deserves every possible award out there!

Poor Gaby, she's been so unlucky with children. First she gets pregnant against her will because of Carlos and his mother, then she has a miscarriage after she decides to keep it, then her adoptive baby is taken away, then the surrogacy does not work, then her biological child gets switched for another in the hospital AFTER she becomes pregnant when she did not want to, and finally she has to say goodbye to her biological daughter Grace forever.

"The bad news is that sometimes, the answer is no..." Possibly the harshest reality when it comes to prayer and hope for so many people...

She was so sensitive... Poor Gaby. I love that scene!

After 8 seasons, this will still always be one of the saddest most tragic scenes of desperate housewives. My heart went out to gabby, she wanted that baby so much and it was just taken away from her. Shame well never see waht kind of girl and relationship lily would be and have with gabby. SHe got juanita and celia instead who she still loved obviously cos they were her girls, even though juanita wasthe baby of someone else after the hospital mix up

What makes me really sad in this scene is that I feel like that baby went off and didn't have a good life with her biological parents. It's just a feeling, but it makes me sad.

I tear up like crazy every time I watch this scene.... And, if it were any other DH character, it probably wouldn't get to me so much... but, it's Gaby... spoiled, shallow, self-centered Gaby... who FINALLY learned to love a baby and wanted to be a mother....and then this happens... *sniff, sniff*

The acting… I can’t even with Eva Longoria in this scene. Absolutely amazing. People said for the longest time she had the fluffiest storylines. And she pulls this out. Heartbreaking

I started crying when she says "My husband sings to her"

I agree... no disrespect to mothers who put their babies up for adoption, I realize what a heart-wrenching decision that must be... but I don't think it's okay for them to legally have the right to change their mind weeks or even months after the fact... Like you said, the baby's new family has already bonded with them, and formed attachments....

This is why adoption should be a legally one-way ticket.

After an intense episode, the advent of the voiceover in the end kind of hits you in the stomach.. her voice is pure gold, it does justice to the whole show perfectly

I can see Gaby's side. My brother and sister in law found a birth mother that wanted to give her son a better life. My brother painted a nursery, bought clothes, got everything ready and was so excited to finally have a baby. Well after the mom gave birth she decided to keep him and it hurt my brother and sister in law. To think your going to have a baby finally after 4 years of heartache and then it being ripped away from you its hard.

Out of all 7 seasons so far this scene with Gabby is by FAR the most powerful it is SO sad but Gabby (Eva) is so good at it that she makes you believe she is actually going through this

God, I'm crying now.

THIS is the most heart wrenching Desperate Housewives scene… with every scream from Gabby, a tear breaks through quicker than the last.

Damn those final moments of desperate pleas. Eva can sure act, wish everyone would see that.

What's so sad is when Gaby says all the things she does for Lilly and then she says "I normally never do those things!", because it's so true. She did her best to be a great mom and she got so used to it she never realized you never know what you have until it's gone!

Dang... I don't even watch this show and I'm bawling my eyes out right now... this is heartbreaking and the acting gives me chills.

Every time I rewatch DHW I feel like Gabby and Carlos should've had a spin-off. Eva Longoria was amazing.

"Carlos do something!" how terrible he must've felt in that moment... he's given Gabby the world, but this is the one thing, even he, couldn't control.

Gaby and carlos have gone through so much ..from a miscarriage..then an adoption which was terminated then having the wrong egg implanted to their surrogate...then having their daughter switched at birth *sigh*

that girl better never find out that she could live with carlos and gaby...

I felt for gabby...omg she almost made me cry...after all she has done to get a baby...

I know I've commented but here I am once again This, and the scene where Gabby lets go of the balloon and when she and Lynette are in hospital make me sob. Hard to breathe, tears rapidly flowing and snotty nosed sobbing. Gabby is such a confident Woman but harbours so much hurt. She's more than just a spoiled suburban housewife and that's why I love her

'... sometimes the answer is no ...' Chills! YEARS later, I still remembered that line. I didn't remember the scene it was from anymore, but that line NEVER faded from my mind. Such powerful words!

Omg... This is one of the saddest moments in the serie...

After all these years, I remember playing it to my media studies class. The entire class fell silent, her acting and the entire scene is one traumatic master piece. Even after all these years, when I watch it, it reduceds me to just such sadness. How this could happen to anyone and the fact she is trying to find the 'right words' is just to much for me to handle. The most ionic tear jerk moment in the last 10 years easily.

Once, the animal control service came to my house, because they found the owner of the dog i had found and brought into my house 5 months earlier on the side of a busy road. That dog had completely made herself at home and loved all my other pets and vice versa. I had taken her to the vet to make sure she was fine, and because she had a nasty scar on her back like a badly healed wound. I couldn't believe i would have to give her away but i understood that if i had lost my dog and someone had rescued her, i would want that dog back and thought it would be unfair of me to keep her. Then the former "owner" of that dog came out of his pick up truck and i immediately understood. He was a hunter, the dog had run away during a hunting trip and it took 5 months for this guy to find her. That made it even harder to give her away to a horrible life. But when the former "owner" of the pet called his dog, the dog ran back into my house and wouldn't go out, with her tail between her leg and she even started pooping herself. That was the last straw. I told the owner that if the dog was that scared of her then there was a reason and that she was either mistreated or badly taken care of and this is why she was scared and that i was going to ask for a full investigation of this man and see how he treated his other dogs. But the animal service control gave me that sad look saying "i get it but that's the law", then when she saw the scar on the dog's back she asked me if i knew what that was and i said that i had no idea and i had found her like this. She asked the owner to explain what the scar was and he said that she had been harpooned by the tushes of a boar. She then asked him to tell her which vet had treated that dog, and the hunter said that he had stitched her back himself. She told him that this was illegal and that under the law of our country an injured dog had to be seen by a professional vet especially when it came to something as bad as an open wound. She asked him when was the last time he took her to a vet and who was the dog's vet to contact that vet right away (as she took her mobile phone out), he told her that he didn't take her to the vet but had a guy coming to give her shots every year. The animal control lady told me to bring that dog back into my house and told the hunter that until they had decided that the dog was not at risk with the hunter, which was very unlikely (and she said it out loud), the dog was going to stay under my care. The hunter was going back to his car when she stopped him and said, and this goes for all of your other dogs, which we are going to bring to the shelter until we decide that they are not at risk with you sir. The man told the lady that he would never let her take his other dogs because he needed them to hunt. And the lady said "this sir, is the worst answer you could have given me" she then told him that he could let her take the dog into the animal control truck or she would call the police and have him arrested for obstruction. Her, me and a another guy who worked with her took the dog out of the hunter's pickup and put them in the truck and then when the hunter got back into his car cursing and even insulting the woman, she said "And we are now going to escort you back home and check out if there are other dogs there. We are also going to ask you to provide the names of your hunting buddies and we are going to have a look at their dogs as well." I could have married that woman ! There were three more dogs in the hunter's house, which were three females pregnant because he also ran a puppy mill. The hunter was arrested, his buddies were investigated, all the dogs were taken away and i adopted 5 of them, including the three pregnant females. And used my contacts to have the other 11 dogs adopted as well. And of course the pups were very easy to place into loving families, after what the mother were sterilized because they were clearly exhausted from all the births they had been put through and are still living their last years with me, safe and properly taken care of. So, fight for what and whom you love. Don't just accept things because the law tells you to.

Really?... This is the best acting some people have ever seen?... It’s not even Longoria’s best scene. It’s just the most emotional. Actually most of her comic timing scenes are above this in skill.

Oh my God! I NEVER EVER EVER EVER thought Gabby would ever do that. HOLY CRAP! In the first season she was always like "Carlos, you promised no kids" and got so mad when she was pregnant. I mean, she was kind of nice with kids, but this never crossed my mind. It made me cry so bad.

on saturday my neighbor had to get rid of his dog so they brought him here.. we were planning on keeping him. i was already so attached to the little guy, and just a couple hours ago my neighbor took him away to give to someone else. :( it reminded me so much of this episode so i youtube'd it. thanks for posting this.
