In this episode of restoring DMS 51412 we start what can only be described as opening up a nightmare of framework corrosion when ripping out a previous preservation repair, along with this we inspect the cant rail from where we closed up open heart surgery and fill this hole up promptly so we can begin to focus on the goliath that awaits us, and begin to promptly fill up what we've ripped out in this episode.

Every little helps as restoring an old unit like the 3 we have is a massive undertaking both physically and financially, so anything you are able to give is massively appreciated.

Fantastic standard of work. The work you have carried out on 51412 will give you so much more confidence for when you do 51370 which looks like it will be a challenge.

Great video as always gents. It sometimes takes a backwards step in order to move forwards, you’ll do a first class repair as we’ve seen before!

I’m watching you’re progress with great interest. It’s made me look closely at the vehicles on my local preserved line wondering if they are in a similar condition under the skin. A huge undertaking and I cannot wait to see her finished. First generation DMUs are close to my heart as I grew up with them in north London, Cravens units at Finsbury Park, and Pressed Steel units on the Gospel Oak-Barking line, (or were they Met Camms?). All shiny and new 😊

Thanks for your comment we are glad to hear you are following the progress each time it’s much appreciated! Hopefully when she runs again in a few years you can come for a ride and enjoy some nostalgia aboard the unit :)

There is also a skill of the person/persons which was availble at the time as well as funding what was in the kittie!

We understand that but as we have learnt it is better to wait save the money to do it properly for the long term.

What's the soy sauce? How does it convert the rust?
@RailcarRestorers
@RailcarRestorers Год назад
The Soy sauce is Fertan rust converter, it’s excellent stuff! I’m not sure what the process is but chemicals do excellent things and make things more stable lol.
