In this episode of Destination DMU, we continue what can only be described as the last mountain of framework and bodywork left on DMS 51412, this includes lowering off 2 doors to be able to rebuild the pillars they hang on as well as to enable us to refit brand new metal panels on the panels we rip off this episode, so that we ready to rehang the doors in the next episode as well as fit 2 brand new panels in this episode.

Every little helps as restoring an old unit like the 3 we have is a massive undertaking both physically and financially, so anything you are able to give is massively appreciated.

Absolutely Fantastic Video Again Guys! - Really Enjoyed as usual but I couldn't help but think about the painstaking hours it's taking to Restore just one car so far on the Class 117 - But keep up the Fantastic Work and hopefully I'll get the opportunity to see it myself at some point???

Many thanks for the comment. We have certainly put some hours into her but it will be worth it in the end! We will have a launch party in the future for the units when they re enter service so you will be more than welcome to come!

Indeed! Although it has retained a fair amount still! Thankfully she will stand the test of time after these works.

Would it not pay you to use some Zinc based weld - thru primer on the inside of the sufaces that you have welded. This really would hold the ferrit oxide back in the future!

Thanks for the comment and suggestions Paul. We have primed the back of the panel with Williamson’s anti corrosive primer and top coat it with 2x coats of bitmuen black paint which is very hard wearing.
