A previous Altoonan here, absolutely love, and very much miss Altoona hotel pizza. The most unique Pizza ever, and as an old friend used to recommend, have them place it under the broiler for just a few seconds so that it becomes slightly crispy. PERFECTION !!!
they need to do a story on Portage PA style pizza normal pizza between the sauce and cheese a layer of Mashed Potato's I like it more than Altoona style pizza
I just recently read a thing about Pennsylvania Style Pizza and I thought: American cheese huh? Hmmmm...then I remembered when we put Kraft singles on our Totino's pizza as kids and loved it. Then I started thinking about it and got reeeeeeally curious. Went to RU-vid and found this. As a lifelong pizza lover from the Chicago area I've only just recently started digging deeper into pizza culture. This has got me very curious, and I'm going to make one. But...I'm going to use onions, my crust will be a little thinner. And when it comes to American cheese, its gotta be Land-O-Lakes...it's the creamiest, the zingiest and melts the best! Cant wait to try it!!!
It is NOT Pennsylvania style pizza, it's one little city called Altoona, no way you be served this in Pittsburgh, we have fabulous pizza places everywhere here and it's nothing like Altoona's idea of pizza, ughhh, processed american cheese, no thank you and it's super thick bread-y pizza, no thank you again!
@@vilmabanky53 I know it's not called Pennsylvania Style but that was the article that I tapped on. I DID finally bake one of my own a couple weeks ago but a little different than the video. To me it was basically another take on a salami sandwich. I didn't hate it but it's something I have to be in the mood for. I still love the thin crust w/ mozz any day. Different strokes...never been to Pittsburgh but I heard great things. Maybe someday...
You'd have to understand altoona. I wouldnt go there and try, but if you did you may understand Why cheap american oil cheese and uncooked Salami go on Pizza there.
Love PennAlto pizza!! What is going to be done about the Sheetz MONOPOLIZATION OF GAS PRICES??? I have driven everywhere and only once you are beyond 30 miles outside of Altoona can you find ANOTHER gas station with substantially lower prices. Altoona is the only area from here to DC that charges 3.75 a gallon!!! And then there is Rudders who must be in cahoots with the ILLEGAL monopolization of gas prices whose prices are the exact same as Sheetz. Where the Exxon? Where’s the Shell? For years, I waited for Starbucks - I see Sheetz finally lost that deal - could only keep them out for so long so people could drink their crappy coffee. Praise God. I spent 3.35 a gallon in gas in Fairfax County just yesterday, one of the top 3 richest counties in the nation, and how does Sheetz pay back their hometown where they began their millions, by committing monopolization, robbing the town people blindly and counting on the elderly to ALWAYS buy from them because they won’t drive outside the city for gas. I also drive for a living, and need to drive outside the city by 30-40 miles so I can actually make some revenue. I save more money driving 40 miles outside of Altoona and buying gas at 3.35 a gallon vs the LUDICROUS 3.75 a gallon!!! Altoona is letting this ONE FAMILY CONTROL ITS GAS PRICES AND AGAIN THAT IS CALLED MONOPOLIZATION WHICH IS ILLEGAL. But more importantly, it shows just how much the the extraordinarily wealthy Sheetz family admires it’s hometown!!! By robbing them blindly!!! SHAME ON SHEETZ!!!! Next move is submitting a complaint of monopoly to the FBI - because I’ve had it!!! This is WRONG!!! It’s highway robbery and MUST BE STOPPED. ONE FAMILY SHOULD NOT CONTROL WHICH BUSINESSES COME INTO OUR TOWN AND WHICH GAS STATIONS TOO WHO MAY OFFER .30 cents LESS PER GALLON!!! I thought we lived in a free enterprise and democracy nation??!!!! Someone or something is letting this rich family get away with robbery from the citizens and it’s time THEY ARE STOPPED!!!
