We do have the expansion "The Witch Queen", and that can refer to Eris. Makes a bit of sense since she is called the real witch in the lore of The Dark Future
"A singular beam of blinding Light tears through the black sky with the velocity of a shooting star, headed straight for the Scarlett Keep" That's Zavala hitting the fattest fuckin' yeet of all time at Eris' toes
I like to think at the end of The Dark Future, when the Traveler starts to glow brilliantly before Elsie wakes up back in the Tower, it’s throwing off the cage again, turning back time and sending Elsie back itself, giving her another chance to avert that future.
I was playing out the whole thing in my head, it was mind-blowing. The sounds, the sights, the voices. This is further evidence Bungie should make a movie or episode-series about the story instead of making the game. I was far-more captivated in this 30mins of lore than I have been playing Destiny in the past 6 months
Plot twist: the darkness leaves realizing the story is stale and the challenge disappointingly gone Players: aight we're out, this is boring, you're boring. Darkness: screw you guys, I'm going home
@@Samuel_Loegan if they built up eramis' story like they did with oryx and savathun i 100% garuntee that it would've been much better... but here we are
@@Doppel834 hmm hmm :) , right now we can't see Eramis as a good villain type of character. Also, her character feels so...cliché, she wants to destroy us Guardians and whatnot yadda yadda. But when we see Oryx, it just doesn't feel cliché with him. We killed Oryx's son and he wants revenge, that's not something you see everyday
There were two interesting parts that stuck out to me in the last lore card: -Ana mentions "a world beyond this conflict" when trying to convince Elsie to join her. This makes it seem like the Darkness is promising some kind of new world to all the dark guardians, though it may not actually intend on fulfilling that promise. -Elsie doesn't choose to travel back in time, it just seems to happen whenever she has truly lost. Maybe the Traveler's doing it so it can eventually find a timeline where it beats the Darkness? Maybe it's Vex tech, maybe Clovis installed some kind of time travel thingy in Elsie's body that she subconsciously activates whenever she kills Ana. Though either way, it also brings Elsie's motivations into question: does she really care about humanity's survival or is she just looking to save her sister and/or get herself out of the time loop?

What a miserable book it would be. Byf does amazing but this is a betrayal everyone sees coming, and the betrayal doesn't make sense. To be honest it really underwhelming and doesnt hold up after the first reading.
@@ArcherWillows ahh the destiny shill arives. I quite lietrally said byf did a great job. The fact remains that destiny does not have as much lore as several others. And this particular lore book is rather poorly done. Re read it. Literally every character is sus of ana yet they all let her come along. You actually think mara would really nit be checking ana out very step IF they brought her along. She bareky trusted her own brother, but will give ana the chance to backstab her. Lol ok. Com9kete contrary to her character but ok. They all imply they will kill her if they have to....then dont and let her screw up the whole plan. A plan that was working lol. There are soooo many more but those are some big obvious ones. Dont have the time to do a Mauler style takr apart of the book but no irs not well thought out. But it is entertaining for a one time read.
In all honesty, it takes a lot of effort. I actually have to sit down, listen and digest what he has to say. This is not a light video you listen to during work. You have to savor and chew every word he says, because it might reveal something you have missed. But is it worth the effort? Absolutely.
We need to be there for Eris as we have always been since The Dark Below. Together with Elsie’s guidance on how to use the darkness without succumbing to its temptations we can avert this dark future and hopefully finish off the Osmium Dynasty for good
I think that's why this timeline is different. We are there for Eris and are her friend, she has helped us and us her. We also accept Crow and are his friend as well.
I love these types of apocalyptic stories. Where we see unusual crossing of different locations, characters, and objects from past stories in the universe . Zavala and his willingness to forcefully take the traveler using Ghaul’s trap. Mara taking control of the leviathan. Rasputin in an exo piloting the leviathan. Eris and her control of the darkness, the hive, and vex. These all create a great sense of finality, scale, and climax that I hope we get in the next two expansions.
I'm so glad you decided to cover this lore book, it's by far my favorite in the game. Beyond Light may not have been the biggest DLC, but it was top-tier in terms of the lore we got.
Its a mad idea but i think we are going to capture the traveler when it tries to abandon us, just like it did with the eliskni. Then we will force the light out of the fucker to capture the darkness and use it's powers for good. I mean in the dark timeline we do capture the traveler after it left us like ghaul did soooo
@@mrxerxes7947, If the fucker tries to leave, we shove it in a Dyson sphere? Ight, when do we combine both Light and Dark, to create a unholy alliance. The light gives control, and the darkness gives us power. A limbo Guardian, but requires a lot of self control. And confidence of our actions.
@@nesty9289, Fuck it, what if we just shove the Traveller into the darkness(or maybe the conquer). What if humanity created a grand crusade to unite what's left of all willing species and maybe new ones to maybe subjugate the Traveller and tell him to get a job. @@mrxerxes7947 I find funny that everything I've heard from destiny wants to push the idea that the traveler is "the good guy", and the fandom seems to distrust it and be all happy about doing the same thing the bad guys did in vanilla destiny2... The full extent of darkness powers are given to Eris, while Zavala and the crew has to take the traveler's pure light by force, that is kind of ironic.
@@buffpeteydinky7748 well we don’t know. Thank you byf for being a true lorekeeper. My friends and i have been guardians since the beginning and you always feel like an elder warlock giving knowledge from the future, the past and the present. keep up the good work and may the light guide you.

Imagine that when we get to go back to Mercury. That the Darkness has corrupted Osiris Sundial and it allows us to travel to one of these dark times. Seeing everything destroyed and maybe even fighting against Dark Guardians.
I shared the hell out of the Complete Story Of Destiny video. Gave the game more meaning when playing. And now my friends and I enjoy talking lore while playing. Thanks for the videos. 🙏
I feel like everyone is forgetting that the Witch Queen is mentioned here, so we gotta put some doubt in this being the actual dark future. Like her trying to make us doubt Eris again.
In part 1 were told that Eris is controlling Savathun, and yeah we're gonna kill her when the expansion comes out but it's a different timeline where we aren't their
This all makes me very curious as to what role exactly the Nine play in all of this. They seem to be beyond simply Light and Darkness, and are communicating with various characters, including us. What's their goal in all of this? What's their stake? They have enough interest to commune with us and send Xûr to equip us with Exotics. But why?
Every time I fall asleep watching RU-vid on my ps4, I wake up and bring the ps4 back from rest mode and it's always at a different place in the Destiny History video. I've probably accounted for at LEAST 500k views alone lol
Ana in Twilight Gap: ignores orders and follows Shaxx, then deserts Tower military to search for an AI with multiple personality disorder and on the spectrum. Ana in Final Moon Battle: betrays her own sister over popsicle powers. WHY IS THAT HERETIC STILL BREATHING IN THE FIRST PLACE!?! For Darkness sakes, if this was the 40k universe...
@@Birbucifer true, but either Ana is on the same spectrum as Rasputin or is the most narsistic character in the franchise. Who else deserts a critical post to search for an over-glorified machine?

I remember when you published the complete story video I saved it for later cause I was on my way to a birthday party. Your video really kept me sane and focused and I don't know what I would've done without it. I don't know why I'm sharing this you just reminded me of this story. Thanks for your content and keep up the awesome work!
As BioShock Infinite's Elizabeth (I see what you did there Bungie) aptly said, "constants and variables". Events and players may have changed slightly, but it seems we're heading in the same direction nonetheless. In the Destiny universe, it seems obessesion is the path towards the Dark Side and Eris and Ana have walked that razor's edge for too long now and they're primed to fall. In the Regarding Stasis lore book, Eris' tone is that of one who has toppled over already. In the new Grimoire Anthology, there is an entry of what appears to be Ana's first communion with the Darkness, tho I admit it's hard to determine if that's "our" Ana or that of another timeline. And then there's Eramis, tucked in her nice stasis coccoon. Perhaps, when all is said and done, everything's inevitable. And it'll be up to us the player to determine if we will make a difference or if, ultimately, it will be Destiny fulfilled for everyone.
Your channel pulled me back into destiny i play my nightfalls and strikes and gambit to your videos playing in my headphones and it makes for a amazing experience. Thankyou mynameisbyf
It’s mind boggling to think that all this would have happened if Elsie didn’t talk to us on Venus to destroy the black garden. This is like a crazy butterfly effect!
Once again Byf, you fail to realize that our guardian was a part of ALL the timelines. Elsie tells us "You...were no exception" to falling to Darkness. We were there in the other timelines. What cause the divergence wasn't us in the game, it was us as the player.
Maybe it's another version of us, we might have never conquered the black garden like Byf said, we are stronger and more capable in this timeline, it's not like Elise knows what we did specifically that's why she's observed us in d1 because we were acting in a way the previous timeline versions of us never acted.
Almost feels like most of this story WILL indeed play out. But since we're the anomaly, one/ a few actions by us will cause a Domino effect and change the outcome, aka we're the chosen one.
I get the feeling that lightfall will include some form of the bombardment where xivu arath takes eris's role as the darkness's champion and attacks the city
I like to think we’ve also given Eris a purpose she didn’t have in the dark timeline. We avenged her fireteam, we killed hive gods, we gave her hope and helped her grieve. Eris has a purpose to fight the darkness, not to purely seek power anymore. She’s not motivated by grief or revenge
I look up towards the Scarlett Keep, my focus breaking away from the battle that consumes me. I see Zavala above head, saturated in the Traveler's light, descend onto the Scarlett Keep. Even in the midst of battle, I can hear him shouting something. A name unfamiliar to me. Jenkins? I cannot recall anyone named Jenkins. Now or prior to The Bombardment. A Warlock under the immense power of Stasis breaks me of my trance. Back into the fray...
She doesn't care about the war between dark and light cuz her people is born from both and she probably prefers to live far from the traveler as she hates that it provocates constant war between light and dark at the cost of lives giving hope where there is none so she might have got partially of what she wanted at the cost of the safety of her people
Mara Sov is pretty much the only character who can in any way hope to stand a chance intellectually against savathun. But savathun is the Hive God of cunning and trickery and mighty enough that her being a third force next to darkness and light is not too far out of reach. That anyone can even be close to her is impressive enough
So did the traveler send elsie back to the beginning of this “loop”? Maybe it’s not a punishment, maybe she was also chosen by the traveler, and it’s saying “find a way”.
This was a great lore book and it actually gave me some thoughts about the future of the game. Now the whole part about Eris being corrupted seems like a possibility in the witch queen dlc because there are several reasons why like she studies the darkness extensively and talks a lot about savathun and studies her ways and in the season 11 opening cutscene she talks about savathun and Zavala is shocked on how she knew so much. But anyway this is probably one of my favorite lore books because of how interesting it is.
I think we might still be on the path of this, Caiatl appears to have a willingness to work with others meaning alliances with our enemies may not be off the table
Its possible. Ana did ask elsie to teach her stasis in our timeline too. I think some guardians showed some signs of corruption too but they didn't fully turn yet, shaxx showed corruption at least. Alliance with the cabal probably will happen as we see in season of the chosen and we know mara sov will come back physically. We also have fallen allies. All that is left is eris to reveal that she is the witch queen, if she actually is the witch queen.
So basically, this is ground hogs day for Elsie. It's kinda like Terminator Dark Fate. No matter what you do, the future events will happen one way or another. I wonder if Elsie ever tried changing events like Cayde 6 lives instead of dying or tell Zavalla that she from the future and knows what will happen.
Why didn't Elsie warn everyone when she went back in time she could have saved cayde, and I know she doesn't care about the time-line because she tries to change it
Its very interesting, i carn’t remember how did Elsie come to our timeline i feel like I remember something that rasputin built helped her travel. Also The ending of shadowkeep were the darkness took our form to communicate with us.... what if its not...... what if theoretically that is us from that dark future. Could that be a possibility?
Byf, if the gameplay is yours, i recommend a Scout Rifle for the Overload champions. It seems to stun them a bit faster, 1-2 shots and you have Overload Rounds already. Night Watch works fantastically.
THIS... Is what should be used as a seasonal story. This as a campaign. Playing as each character. Elsie as main, Zavala when he tells the story of losing his leg. They should make seasonal campaigns of Lore Book entries.
because that's the only way to actually kill a guardian of the light. also, ana probably turned to darkness before this encounter so her ghost either fleed or was killed by Eris.
Clearly, there are still some questions regarding the dark future in terms of our timeline to be sure. The Witch Queen expansion would likely answer a lot of those questions, since Savathun was mentioned at least twice in the lorebook. One thing I would like to see explored in the Witch Queen is how exactly did Mara Sov fail to subvert the machinations of Savathun. Savathun, being the ancient trickster she is, would have likely fooled Mara handly. Savathun did play a trick on Oryx himself as well.
What if it's the Vex. What if they realized Elsie's potential to save then from their fate, of being mere pawns on Eris's chessboard. So they set her on a loop, back again and again. It doesn't line up with their usual simulations, but perhaps they don't have time for that, so they use Elsie instead. This seems very unlikely, but your comment triggered this idea and I had to share.
Can anyone answer the following questions? 1)Who was talking with the Stranger in D1 when we met her on Venus. The dialogue then suggested that it was someone that knew us. 2)Can we confirm that the Stranger cannot time travel and instead she is just stuck in a time loop? 3)What caused the time loop? It seems like a chess game between Light and Dark was created the moment of the big bang at the end of the battle thus creating this time loop. 4)Why is Elsie Bray the only one that relives the time loop? Are there others? When i read this lore book i ended up with these questions and i don't have any insights.
I think the traveler saw hope in Elsie as she was basicly the only one in the original timeline who wielded stasis but wasn't corrupted , so in a last move in this game of chess , the traveler used all the remaining power to create this time loop. Maybe darkness always wins , except in one scenario which is our current timeline hence why the game is called destiny.
I wonder if this is why our ghost says that he has finally found us. Maybe we are the being that will break this loop and the traveler has been looking for us through all of these time turn backs.
I have long predicted that Eris will supplant Savathûn and lead the Hive, though it’s interesting that in the dark future Eris kept her alive. Hoping that if she does take up the mantle she stays on our side this time around. Even if it means she has to leave again.
I can honestly say that I have used that video as an audio book to fall asleep too more timed than I can count. Makes me wonder if/when were going to get a part 2.
