If “Aspect” is to be believed it would be easy to equate it to that. It’s hard to see what groupings of vex really are. Is it one collective mind? Is it a bunch of greater axis minds as suggested? Is every molecule of radiolaria sentient? We’re not sure how to beat quantify Vex and we’re not sure if Aspect holds with veracity.
@@MynameisByf I see. But that some Vex refused to connect with the Heart makes me wonder if some cooperation is possible in the future (same as the Spider's Fallen).
"Do you remember cutting down the Sol progeny?" Yeah I remember doing it underleveled because im an idiot and running out of ammo and having to melee the ads to death.
I did it recently with a green fusion and a white pulse rifle... But i own a ps4 more for watching movies/shows so i dont habe ps+ so... well still epic moment
Garden Vex: Worship the Darkness so that they may live for as long as the Darkness. Forest Vex: Wish to remove every possibility and future where they are not the only thing left, no Light or Darkness
@@soulofcinder4748 I always viewed it like this - The Vex in general have a single end goal - But the "Factions" are given free will to explore their own approach that they would deem the definitive path to victory.
I'm calling it now: That spherical artifact is Pandora's Box. The minute we poke it the wrong way, it'll open up to unleash our doom. Curiosity will kill us all.
Regarding the last scene of the campaign, I'm particularly pleased that 5 years ago I made my Hunter main character a human with white face paint, bright red lipstick and blue eyes. I have always called him "The Mime". He looked particularly creepy in that scene.
I could’ve sworn that in curse of Osiris it’s often mentioned that the vex cannot predict us in anyway, they see guardians as an uncontrollable variable
Byf’s recollection of the Black Heart “fight” is so much more exciting and badass than the actual fight was. “Kill 3 big minotaurs and shoot the big blob”. Yaaaaaay...
It's also worth noting that 5 years ago, whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So we got to take out their command, one by one. From what Zavala could gather, Valus Ta'aurc commanded the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He was well protected, but with the right team, we punched through those defenses, took this beast out, and broke their grip on Freehold.
“I understand your new here, so let me tell you a story”. Byf is like some old, scholarly warlock spreading stories of times long gone. I think he’d be a great npc/vendor if Bungie added him in the game.
A lot of this makes me think that these Pyramid vessels and the Traveler may originate from the same source, but they have clearly taken diverging and opposed paths.
Do you guys remember in the Dendron strike where Sagira and Ghost are talking about when Sagira hijacked Ghost? Ghost said something about feeling dead, and about seeing the Traveler in the darkness and it being small.
I'm fairly sure the Ghost is just joking there since the line it says before that is 'I think I was dead' in a similar, not particularly serious, tone.
"Have you ever had a nightmare?" Has so much deeper meaning now. The pyramid was calling out a long time. The man who would become Dredgen Yor was drawn to the moon. Alone, a champion, golden Titan, pillar of the city, plagued by nightmares of a foe he had not yet faced but could not rest or be at ease. I don't think it was just a random witch/wizard tempting Ryzel. I think the Darkness was reaching out, trying to tempt the Light's strongest champions throughout time. He just found the Hive. Waiting. Festering on the moon.
And considering how the Dreaming city lore tied so many historically important guardians together in the Great Hunt, I think it's entirely probable, and entirely likely that the Darkness used Ryzel's desire to safeguard humanity and prepare them for what's out there to lure him to the moon with the visions of the hive and possibly the Winnower. Especially considering the Lumina quest, and lore.
@My Name is Byf oh! What if the Knight Ryzel fought was a certain Knight mentioned in the collectable lore from Shadowkeep? The one who was wounded and lost part of his arm? The witch in the lore around Dredgen Yor is almost certainly one of the many Deathsingers. Oh man. Just when I think I'm content with Ryzel and his story Bungie keeps pulling me back in. Ryzel and the tragedy of his Sorrow's Road, the best of us becoming the worst in order to inspire growth and evolution (*cough sword logic cough*) in order for us to be strong enough to face the coming Darkness. I was gonna play random games tonight but now I'm gonna get on D2 just because I love this universe. Bungie might not always deliver on this or that, but the story. The history. The atmosphere. So good.
Also what if the Pyramind that crashed on the moon is just like how the Traveler hangs low above Earth? What if they're both the last ship of opposite sides of an ancient war? Both were comatose...until we stirred up the dust.
Honestly I find it entirely probably that Yor will return. When Xivu attacks a planet, she incites civil war there first. A war between Guardians and Dredgen would be a big distraction tbh. But this time the Dredgen would be empowered by the full range of Darkness elements. Antimatter, Stasis, and Soulfire
Wait....does this mean that perhaps in the future we could actually get Vex allies?! This plot seems a hell of a lot like the Geth-Reaper thing, almost exactly like it actually! O_O
We've got allies in the Fallen and Cabal. Calus has the Crown of Sorrows and Xol feeds off of kills with Whisper, so we have the setup for Hive allies as well. Honestly I'd be surprised if we don't wind up with friendly Vex sooner or later. I'm thinking saving Quira from Savathun might start things off
Jake Dempsey. Yeah none of the enemies are perfect. They all have factions and disagreements. Xol was the weakest worm and feared Oryx and now savathun. It’s now part of our weapon. The vex have an unknown goal for now but not all worship the darkness. The fallen have always been fragmented scavengers after the traveler left them, some were already our buddies. We also have the cabal who for now have shown no ties to the darkness and juts some civil strife. So much potential for the story and lore.
@@jakedempsey3809 friendly vex make sense. as a whole, they aim for a universe without light or dark, only vex. the hive are purely at the whim of the worm gods, except maybe oryx who tried to get rid of his worm cabal and fallen, sure
Yea lore on them is pretty small but very interesting. Wish there was more like factions or info on them like what are the black garden vex cause i dont think the faction is the same as the location .we dont entirely know what they want. We got the precursors who want both light and dark eliminated and while their is no name for them currently there is the vex that served the traveler before the death of the gardener plus we have next to nothing on the gardener. Granted im courious on how Rasputin knows who the gardener is and about the 3 queens makes me think they are having Rasputin be heavily involed in the story later on.
@@deadbeats5640 Isn't the gardener the same as the traveler? Also curse of osiris didn't disappoint me in it's content as much as it's story It explain to us nothing about the vex. It didn't even show us much of osiris, we learned about his past in the comics The campaign was just a new vex that we needed to destroy and they made osiris a bald old man as if we didn't have enough baldness The only good thing was saint 14, i wish the story focused on him more
@@bandarsalh1338 there was some speculation that the gardener was the traveler but new lore shows that it was a different being weaker then light but stronger then the darkness and was destroyed by the light and the vex took over as new caretakers after being abandoned by the light before being split into factionsj and over run by the darkness .kind of weird how they say light and dark when they actually represent people and not some all being entity. Yea i wish curse of osirus focused more on other things besides the original vexs or just gave new lore on osirus
Vex's origins (at least how'd they came into our universe) was pretty explained in the Books of Sorrow. Based on information from it I think the Vex were not machines or radiolaria. They were immaterial entities which are inhabited their own realm. When Crota accidentally opened a rift to their realm, the Vex invaded Oryx's throne world. IN this manner the Vex remind me of Riftborn from Endless Space 2 which are also was orginiated from other dimension and upon exiting it took the form of machines and are also can manipulate time.
Yaaaaaas. And we would still have all these heavily lore important items like the weapons of Sorrow. Necrocasm and Touch of Malice....my god slayer armor and ornaments....I hope one day they merge them. I'd gladly pay for it just to make Destiny feel like one big world. Sure it would be rad to get it for free if we already own D1, but all the updating and texture swapping and lighting and etc tgey would have to do would be my money well spent tbh.
@@savagewraith be careful what you wish for as it seems either necro-gasm :D or Touch of malice is actually returning as we will need a god slayer at some point this year... Also it would be cool but think of all the poor console players hahaha, they wouldnt be able to fit it on their drive and Bungie wouldnt be able to release disks big enough to fit it, plus all the stupid backwards compatibility as ps5 and next xbox tba. Fuck console players theyre the reason why we dont have a big world it has to be split up to fit into their disk drives...
Then they'll be told like this: Dominos: CARRY OUT TWO TOPPING PIZZAS, (Later) And that time has come... Also Dominos: LARGE TWO TOPPING PIZZAS FOR ONLY 5.99
Anyone ever notice the D1 cinematic with the heart, the camera work makes the Heart look like the eye of a Vex Goblin or Hydra and the horizon silhouette the outline of the head?
Shadow I’m a Game Master for a few different tabletop role playing games and have to play a lot of different characters to make the world seem alive. I do it when I’m playing characters that need to sound intelligent or sophisticated. I didn’t think I needed to give full context for my explanation, but now you’ve insulted my intelligence, so here you go.
“Sol Inherent” might mean that they have inherited the darkness, like the sol progeny did in the end of the D1 campaign, but have had more time to ‘mature’ with the darkness inside of them.
JUICE inherent as a word isn’t particularly connected to inherit - despite appearing similar they derive from different Latin root words and have quite different meanings so I doubt that that’s the reason for the name.
You know, something had been bothering me about the raid, but I hadn't been able to put it into words until now. There's no story in it. Like, the campaign itself is fine. Eris finds a spooky, we get spooked, we come face to face with an ancient enemy, etc. It's a decent enough start to something. But if the raid is the continuation, then it's... incredibly lacking? The vex are doing a bad for some reason, so we kill them, and that's... kind of it? Sure, the lore implications are neat and all, but the story itself is.... ehhhhh? Couldn't we have the Darkness narrating to us to put things into context? There's _plenty_ of time to explain, why not use it? It's vanilla D1 all over again, except it's worse because we _know_ bungie can do better
twiexcursori well I think the context of it is that we don’t know what we’re doing and we aren’t supposed to know that what we are doing is the right thing or not, that we could be doing exactly as they wanted and we would be none of the wiser... if we were told we would know the answer and it would remove some of the mystery behind our actions and we would either feel more justified or know exactly what we are doing but as of current time we have no clue what the final goal is and we can only hope that what we are doing is the right thing
I’ve noticed that both statues in the Pyramid and in the Garden have a feminine look. Could just be me but I wanted to speak what I noticed about these statues.
I always found it amazing that the darkness and those who side with it think they can not lose at all as where on the Light side we know we can lose but fight as hard as we can to win to survive. I noticed it back in D1 but it is even more evident now in D2 and Shadowkeep.
Scroll down to become confused. After the Black Garden gig, Skril-Vex the Sanctified Mind calculated that it would have greater opportunities if it played for the Pyramid on the moon. Using Cabal speakers, it had salvaged from Ghaul's command ship, Skril-Vex played its dubstep so well, that the Pyramid couldn't pay it enough, so the Pyramid tipped Skril-Vex in statues, and gave it an IOU for 25000 glimmer. Later, after a group of guardians had crashed another one of Skril-Vex's Black Garden gigs, Skril-Vex met Ignovun at a MetalliCabal concert. The Cabal love thrash metal, after all. Ignovun borrowed both of Skril-Vex's speakers and used them to play the heaviest metal in the universe at a gladiatorial contest involving radiolaria and some of Zahn's inventions. Thus ends the story of Skril-Vex, the Sanctified Mind.
Am i the only one who read "The vex found the heart of the black garden" i think about the vex finding the black garden in itself then move in? Like, the black garden was not ALWAYS a vex construct, more like everywhere else we saw them do, they found it then make themself part of it by "merging" with it? (also, the card about the light and darkness is depicted as a gardener and the other (i forgot at this moment)... what if the original tree of silverwing was in the (black) garden and when it died and the darkness took over the garden it became the black garden??)
I know this is such a late comment, but what if there are more travelers? Could lightfall be the final battle between traveler(s) and pyramids? To end both?
I've been playing since D1 Y1, and have been watching you since then. Thank you for doing this and devoting your time helping us in the wonderful universe!
My name is Byf is to Destiny Lore as Morgan Freeman is to narrating. Such a great voice/tone to listen to tell us the lore of Destiny. Love the videos. Keep them coming.
@@TerrariaGolem Atheon shall return to dunk on the Sol Divisive. Throw hands with the Darkness. "Darkness can't consume shit if it's lost in time" -Atheon 2020
Some observations I made: 1. In D1, the Sol Progeny were Precursor, Regular, and Descendant because they were trying to assimilate with the darkness across the entire timeline (past, present, future) 2. The “Mesa” in the black garden is actually the stump of a giant tree. It’s pretty obvious with made of wood compared to the materials around it.
So whats all about the alternate appearance of the black garden? And the "mountain" in the center was just a massive tree trunk this whole time? If there is more info on the garden itself I'd love to hear some :)
My question is, Eris Morn wanted so badly to get inside the pyramid, and we were able to, so why, after I don't even know how many years, have we not gone inside the traveler
Hey Byf, can you do a video covering the Fireteam Kentarch-3 (Garden of Salvation armor/weapon lore) and Praedyth. I would love to hear your thoughts and theories on those topics.
Since i’m Here early I thought you might notice this comment. Thank you so much for doing this job and telling me and everyone else on the internet about the lore of the destiny universe! You are what really made me love this universe and franchise!
This entire video was setup. Weak lore video. He just explains that yeah so we beat the Raid, the vex are the same as the ones we killed in the black garden, and there was another darkness statue at the end. Definitely the worst and most pointless Byf video ever
Little did we know then that we would suffer nearly two months of content drought to reach Europa and welcome the darkness with the sloppiest of deepthroat embraces.
.....*closes eyes as ghost speaks* Ghost: so think you can kill a god Me: *sighs heavily, opening my eyes and readies my weapons and turn to talk* “don’t think i have a choice” (On a side note what vex thought it was a good idea to have weapons and armors ready for us?)
I remembered that Kabr meant "tomb" in Urdu and figured I'd check into Kentarch, and found out that Kentarch means "control", and Rekkana means "recline" in Urdu. Dunno if that means anything but it's a thing. Keep up the killer work, Byf
Byf, I love listening to your videos, you have one of the best storytelling voice and style I know of. So EPIC. great following you since the beginning.
The Vex and the Droids of the CIS are horrifying not alone but in number, just imagine you’re fighting a battle against one and it’s dark and then you hear a march of meta footsteps and see as massive force of metal warrior who are cold and care not for mercy. It would be fairly terrifying imo.
