raid final boss prediction, we ascend the stairs to the middle of the pyramid and see a massive floating veiled woman, it moves to look down at us then out of nowhere it just fucking explodes. the smoke clears, and taniks is standing in the rubble, a hive ghost floating behind him.
@@ritz8906 If you read the lore the guy is such a chad. Bitch slaps the Leviathan and kidnaps the worm god's mum. Proceeds to then troll and trick the entire Hive through the worm gods.
Literally every other raid boss: *Just stands there while they shoot me during damage phase* Rhulk: "Hold my beer, I'm going to go down there and have my own damage phase"
Rhulk probably the only raid boss who didn’t fear us but welcomed us to his domain and had the confidence to come face to face with us for a head on fight. Even in the lore rhulks a scary guy to fight finding out what he did
It could also being interpreted to levels of influence. The Europan Pyramid influenced and empowered the House of Salvation but they weren't serving the Darkness just using it. So, The motif is subtler, in the background, pulling the strings. This one, however, it's loud and oppressive: "Witness my might and perish."
Remember how while the servers were down for maintenance, trying to log in would get you a special error message? "The final pieces are being placed. No peeking!"
"Big day for you today! Congratulations on getting this far!" -Rhulk, respectin the grind ...and a testament to how many lfg teammates i had to cycle through to make any progress
@@Sparrowthebird no wonder.... the “triumphant” guardian motif plays as he relentlessly hunts you down whilst you need to run and shoot at the same tome
@@Sparrowthebird Those horns man. The AMOUNT of times we heard them. And they still absolutely kick ass. Felt absolutely crazy to beat this guy with only 80 minutes of contest mode to spare, best and dumbest thing i've ever done in a video game.
You can almost tell that there’s a moment when Rhulk realizes that these 6 guardians actually stand a chance at defeating him and I’m absolutely here for it.
That's his final stand. That's the only point in the entire fight he actually tries. He let himself get so low out of giant ego and nothing more. But yeah final stand he actually panics a bit and unleashes the full force of pervading darkness to kill us, unfortunately for him we saved all our damage super for then.
yup, if he had taken us seriously, he would have wiped the floor. but he heavily underestimated us. then during final stand, he realizes he might lose, and goes ape mode.
@@leftpinkytoe8363its less that he goes ape mode, he just attacks slightly faster, and more that he started using his actual most powerful ability, pervading darkness, i forgot what the ability to use it in lore is called but yeah he couldve done that the entire time, hell he could’ve done it the second we entered his pyramid
I think everyone forgot that this was the first true darkness enemy we've fought in destiny. Something we've been asking for for 8 YEARS. The amount of hype such a being brings is unreal, and they delivered in the best way possible. Imagine seeing this dude in d1. There is not a single man on this earth that wouldn't shit themselves
@@thunderlord3183 rhulk is still the closest to a darkness being as his power consists of pure darkness. Not like stasis but the same energy the witness gives off
It's great to finally have a final raid boss that fights back, makes him feel threatening. One of the most difficult raids combat wise since Spire of Stars IMO.
@@tommybury4421 The fact that the boss approaches you during DPS and has multiple attack patterns is already a positive to me. You can't just sit in a Well and DPS without much thought. Not to mention, we also have a Master version to complete.
Wonder how it’s going to evolve in lightfall, feel like they have to borrow off of the witnesses ost, but then they have to make it more direct and distinguishable compared to the rest of the darkness ost. The only way I see them doing this is pronouncing the trembling sound it has, like at the beginning of the witness
@@chrisrenemans5026 I feel like there will be absolutely no signs of light related motifs, like in this there is still motifs from the guardian song because the light is still prevailing, lightfall is almost definetly going to be about the dark absolutely fucking destroying humanity and the light so I feel like it'll just be pure and raw darkness music.
It feels lighter here, but in the raid I absolutely love the Guardian motif coming in when you do damage. Its incredibly satisfying and feels awesome, like hell yeah we're killing this incredibly powerful being.
I love the motif of “Guardian” halfway through. In all videos I’ve seen of this boss, it plays right as the damage phase begins. It’s as if the light of the Guardians, for a brief moment, overpowers the Disciple’s own power.
He made 1 fatal miscalculation. He thought he could taunt us and play with us like he did with the countless others he had "subjugated" before. Thing is, Guardians are paracausal. We make our own fate. I love how after 2 damage phases he starts questioning himself, talking confidence into himself. "Is this a test? Yes! My test! I deliver you finality!" "My blood spilled. Bravo!" Yeah bitch we'll see how you think about that when we splice you up into a tree
Not the light of the guardians but the guardians themselves. We roll up to his residence Acquire knowledge of the deep Obliterate his experimenter Exhibit out knowledge And use the Darkness against him So yes, for a brief moment we stand in the face of the first disciple, embrace our own darkness, and assert the right to life because "We are stronger than you"
this song was actually the work of michael sechrist! unfortunately, he was the other composer laid off alongside salvatori. shame to see two legends go, but i'm sure if both continue to do more work in the future it'll be just as great.
The Witch Queen soundtrack has so much Darkness in it that I can just already tell this will me the best DLC for me. All of the soundtrack in general goes so hard
It makes me wonder whether Bungie has a really skilled orchestra or a really skilled audio editing crew. Either way, the soundtrack is way ahead from most games' OSTs
Both. Couple of the 6 composers were making music all the back for the early Halo titles, and you got people at Bungie turning mac n cheese slushes into worm launcher blasts.
They have had this music for 30 years. Ever since they came out and they really showed it in halo but it’s kinda sad to see that game get all the recognition when they still make stuff like this.
Almost every ost soundtrack for destiny is made in an orchestra, even in the halo days, but there are only a few sound effects that bungie had to make in the most creative ways. This is why I love bungie even with my tiny-ass ape brain, I’m happy that I grew up with destiny
What a boss! What a raid! This is hands down the best raid Bungie has crafted. Seeing Rhulk for the first time is one of those experiences that never leaves you. ...Or maybe that's the 10 hours of fighting that followed.
Although I woudlnt agree it’s the best one they have ever made period. It’s definitely a fuckin BANGER of a raid even with the occasional soft lock. Like damn is it just such a sick raid
"Vow of the Disciple" Raid: Final Encounter "Rhulk, Disciple of the Witness" 0:00 Beginning 0:13 Mechanics Phase 2 Part 1 1:07 Mechanics Phase 3 Part 1 2:07 Mechanics Phase Part 2 2:37 DPS Phase 2 3:07 Final Stand 3:38 End
The campaign alone makes this my favourite DLC, with a soundtrack like this here's hoping the raid is one of the greats, up along side last wish and Wrath of the machine
Themes and motifs sometimes contain hidden messages or meaning in them. 2:07 - Rise (from vanilla D2 OST) and 2:37 - Guardian (from D1 OST) During the middle phase where all of us step onto the platform to face Rhulk, the motif of Rise starts playing. And once the actual DPS phase begins, the music shifts to Guardian. Clearly the music is trying to say RISE GUARDIAN and fight against the Darkness.
@@crealiuss think we all knew this would be the raid bosses theme as soon as it released with the name the first disciple and the raid being called vow of the disiple
Up untill today I had Beyond Light's title theme as my phone ringing melody and people were scared when it rang 🤣🤣 Cant wait to see their faces when this rings
I absolutely love the beginning, it’s like shit is about to come down again after trying for the 53 times. Damn Rhulk is definitely my favorite boss of D2, so regal and callous
The only reason we beat Rhulk is because he was so shit eatingly full of himself. Now, he was infinitesimally more powerful than us, but he was so overly confident in himself that he underestimated the power of a collective of Guardians that would be his downfall. The beginning of the track being a very loud Darkness theme cutting to an extremely grandiose section is clearly Rhulk's part of the song, while the Guardian motif is when we figure out and exploit Rhulk's weakness, his narcissism. Rhulk never even broke a sweat in our fight with him, and after whittling him down far enough, the final stand is when he realized it was too late and that he underestimated us. Only then he used just a fraction of his power to try and make it even by killing us before he died, but with the combined power of a fireteam we were able to finish him.
I love how you can hear the struggle between Light and Dark in the song, it's my favorite song in all of Destiny as of right now (maybe lightfall has a better raid soundtrack 👀👀👀) Speaking of Guardians in the Pyramid, I also love how it's canon that not all the Guardians that went in the Pyramid came back out alive. Really goes to show how dangerous Rhulk and the Pyramids are.
It still baffles me how little the Darkness foes sees Guardians the most scaletipping power houses that have powers that can obliterate armies as just mere fodder. And despite the fact that our Guardians being the most powerful of the ones that came before get curb stomped by a disciple of the darkness that isn't even trying is a terrifying thought, almost makes you feel insignificant in the grand scheme of the flower game. 'Almost'
Expectation: big scorn with prymid aspects and at 2:07 damage phase Reality: what if we put final fantasy into dark souls? And made it the whole fight?
Rhulk might be the smallest final raid boss ever, but holy hell this guy not playing around. He look down upon us with the hands on the back menacingly like we're just an ants.
@@adamboy0559 I never got to Rhulk during Day 1 but if my team managed to get to Rhulk and got to what I call the “Prelude” to damage, we would’ve freaked out.
I’m sorry Oryx and Riven but Rhulk is the best boss fight in the history of destiny IMO I had so many Laughs watching Rhulk kicking the whole fireteam but finally got day one clear
@@mrblackbird6936 I'm %110 certain that was one of the two lies. "You will wield the power to move worlds." was definitely one truth, because I'd be shocked if Taking doesnt become a Darkness subclass in next two expansions. I cant figure out which is a lie or truth from the other statements.
i think overall this is the best raid final boss ost weve had so far. oryx and aksis's themes slap, ca'uors theme goes hard, and crota and sanctified themes are solid rave beats but this song just hits different, idk. i cant stop listening to it, its so sick
There's a good reason Rhulk is my favorite Raid Boss. Unlike other bosses who keeps shooting you or just summons a ton of minions, this guy comes down and kicks ass both literally and metaphorically during his damage phase.
2:06 personally was my favorite part. If this encounter was a movie, I think of the 6-man raid team and rhulk physically and verbally clash the concepts of dark and light into an all-out brawl both parties
man my thoughts exactly! It's like this tugging motion where the battle is up in the air, with "the light" making ground while Rhulk shows off his prowess and skill, only to mess up at 2:37 and allow us a window of opportunity. This song is such a banger.
2:07-3:08 when you first walk into Rhulks arena and have to shoot his weak points, and then the damage phase begins is the perfect display for what it means to be a guardian. Clapping the cheeks of gods
I love how this theme itself feels like a battle between Rhulk and Guardians, you can hear the struggle for victory between Rhulk's dark and bombastic Darkness leitmotif and the heroic and desperate Guardian theme.
Killing this boss and getting a full clear on contest was the most satisfying and challenging thing I’ve ever done in this game. GG Bungie, can’t wait to see what’s next
That epic and bombastic arrangement of the Darkness leitmotif at the beginning just screams pure evil, which is exactly what Rhulk personifies. I love this raid so much!
Says more throught the encounter as well which makes rhulk a much more of a character from doing the raid alone than instead having to read the lore to find out more about him
Is he stronger than that worm god we killed in warmind, Id thought the hive god was stronger, but then again idk the power scaling of disciple or worm god (also I know this comment is a year old, but if u do still happen to know, id be curios0
@@EepyGirlLava I believe Rhulk is stronger than all worm gods. Inside his pyramid he literally has Xita, the Nurturing Worm trapped, which is the mother of the wormgods, including Xol (Warmind). I can imagine you have to be pretty damn strong to incapacitate one of those.
How the music starts clearly with the pyramid theme, and stays in that bassy register the whole time during the dunking phase, and it begins to lift as you phase to the platform, and then how it soars into the original Guardian theme when you hit damage phase, this music is itself a clash of Destiny's light and darkness. Absolutely phenomenal expansion.
That first part of the theme is incredible, when I first heard it I got so many chills and even felt a little scared. That theme we heard all the way back from the end of Red War was haunting us, meaning “the darkness is here, you can’t run any longer”
This is the vibes I got from the opening: She did what!? She chose the light!? She left the deep for the sky?! We will see to you you dirty stain on the cosmos! - A very pissed off Megamind and his fleet of Doritos to Savathun
For once, we have a very unique raid boss and a boss that doesn’t require you to sit on a well. I think that this boss is much better than fighting a giant scorn or taken.
I absolutely live for the Guardian motif appearing in boss tracks! Like we're overpowering their theme with our own, proving our strength in the face of total annihilation
Arrogance in the flesh, Rhulk never took the fight seriously until the final stand. By then his own arrogance had gotten the best of him and his fate was sealed. The Rhulk we fight is a dimished Lubraean, no longer at the height of his power and forgotten by his master to an extent. Savathun's plan of keeping him locked out was succesful in weaking him.
i put this on during a Dares round against Valus Tau'arc and the end of the music coincided with the end of the fight. best thing ever, good job Bungie.
Same think it’s a way that bunnies trying to move raid bosses from standing completely still. Even with dsc Taniks moved around a lot I like them moving tho makes them more intimidating
I love how the Bungie composers just decided they didn’t want their boss theme to sound generic so they added some good ol classic drums to keep it unique
