Episode Echoes introduced a lot of great things and interesting story threads to Destiny 2! New activities, gear, locations etc. but parts of the story (particularly the ending) made things feel questionable. Did we actually achieve anything? Or is the conductor the same as when we first met? Let’s hear your thoughts!
I actually enjoy the narrative of this episode, Maya Sundaresh(and the golden age humans as they experienced meeting the Traveler and what came with it) was a character that always intrigued me. I spent many an hour on Ishtar Collective reading grimoire cards about her and the Vex back in the day. But can't lie, the exotic mission was boring to me and I spent 10 minutes or so playing it...said "f**** this" and haven't been back. I"m tired of the same formula. I don't know how Bungie can fix that, if at all. Don't get me wrong, I still love Destiny 2 but I've found myself just jumping into the Vanguard playlist when I log on lately
Here’s my personal gripe they say that the conductor is powerful and we can’t fight her. But here’s a list of what we killed over 10 years. We’ve killed machines that acted like gods, hive gods that destroyed millions of worlds, vex minds that would’ve warped us out of time, Disciples of the witness, and to top it all off we killed the witness the highest point of what we killed. So tell me, What’s the difference between the conductor and the rest that I just mentioned? PS I wish we had a vex dragon boss for a dungeon
Yeah like the story would have made more sense if they had framed this as the team HESITATING to kill her off cause there's opportunity in learning the echoes power & capacity through her instead of making Maya seem like a "daunting opponent stronger than the witness" bs.
Destiny has a lot of interesting stories, the Concordat and Lysander, the Colony of Efrideet, Shin Malphur and the Dredgens, Praedyth traveling between realities, Old Chicago, the Nine, Cyrell and Micah-10, the SIVA on Nessus and more... But somehow, Bungie keeps focusing on the love drama between a robot and an old man. Bruh, Saint is a living nightmare for Vex and Osiris is the most overrated character by Bungie since D1. They could have done a more intriguing story, combining Osiris' knowledge about the Vex and Saint's experience fighting them, they could have even included more history of the Oxa Machine or the plans of the extinct Future War Cult and their machine to predict the future, expand the Destiny universe more, they could have placed some references to Praedyth and her device that allows her to travel between realities, there is so much lore that it makes me sad what they do, but they decided to stagnate in one of the most forced love dramas I've seen in Destiny for several seasons now.
Personally the biggest issue I have besides the wonky writing of this ending is we didn't get Failsafe a body. I thought the intro of act 1 & all her wishful sharing of getting to explore the world with us independently was a foreshadowing to her finally getting a vessel using one of the spare exo bodies we found but after everything we just leave her alone to be a lonely tool again :(
Agreed. Was really expecting a us to capture sundreash and her to be like - I will simply fry every exo mind in -countdown And then… Beep boop hey capn maybe if you could go to Nessus and grab my memory core and hook me up to that lab you found. And umm …..LET ME BODY SNACH THIS Bi###
@@iron1528 Yeah, it was like having 6 Crow seasons in a row since Beyond Light started. I liked Haunted, but at that point I was sick of Crow and his personal drama. Plunder and Seraph ignored him, and that's the only good thing I can say about Plunder.
Aren't we supposed to be one of the baddest guardians out there? I feel like we're the third wheel in these cutscenes, we dont talk, they never show us actually firing a weapon, people talk down to us on occasion. Saint-14 and Ikora use their supers, while we stand there like the village idiot. Can we please get some dialogue, at least contribute to the conversations.
I understand what they were trying to make parallels between Saint and Osiris with Maya and Chioma. A major problem I have is that Saint and Osiris's romance is something I felt was always ham-fisted and did not care for. Thus it took away from what I felt could've been more interesting lore moments. More focus on the Echo of Command, on learning even more about the lore The Veil and it's relation to The Traveler. Especially since the I thought the Episodes would be tying up lose ends from these past 10 years to move into the future. Final Shape gave a lot (especially in compared to Lightfall) but there is still lingering questions that we would get answers to.
She survived a shield throw from saint and a nova bomb from ikora. Plot armor is working overtime for her. Meanwhile we can be thown off the map from a red bar cabal with a shield. She should have at least broke apart and then fell in the river. Hopefully she comes back in more powerful form and we beat her in a satisfying way.
My two cents: Sundaresh as the villain was a cool idea. The new locations on Nessus were AMAZING, especially the deeper you got. Exotic mission good. Story was ABYSMAL: so little happened it could have been shorted to 3 weeks total. The writing was very tiring. The cadence of the story releases wasn’t great. From beginning to end, all that actually happened was the introduction of a new villain and then they went away. The bad story ruined the whole thing overall.
This episode feels like Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban while we got answers to questions from the past we really didn’t accomplish anything we just pissed off a villain and forced her to retreat that’s it it was very anticlimactic honestly
In the end, I was not clear what the Conductor was even trying to do. What I do know is I'm sick of Destiny's story being so focused on Saint and Osiris' romance. Do they really think that's what the audience is craving?
@@kevin_kevinson gay people are more than their sexual preference. Idk why people don't see how bigoted it is to have a gay person's entire personality be "theyre gay". Now they ignore all the interesting things about Osiris and only focus on the fact that he's gay.
@@actsapologist1991 another issue is that the player character has been overall irrelevant when it comes to the narrative. We just stand and kill everything yet the credit for something else goes to the season NPC and our acomplishment is just met with a pat on the back.
I'm gay and I like a lot of the Saint/Osiris material, but I'm kind of over it at this point. I thought they were going to introduce someone cool and fun.
The fact they changed Nessus for the battlegrounds and missions only is severely disappointing. Who decided to say it's changing and then not have the entire patrol space different by the end of the episode?
Hmm, can you imagine a future story where Clovis Bray and Maya Sundaresh have a villain's meet up? Personally, I think the "ending" gives a route for the evolution of the Vex from mere Anonymous background enemies to something where Vex with a Personality Matrix arise. Maybe we will see a story or two where a Vex asks those perennial Human Questions that have occupied some of the greatest minds of our history: Who am I? What am I? and Why am I here? Maybe the Vex will eventually become either a well storied Ally, or an equally well storied enemy.
Would be cool as a new season. They team up with Clovis promising his vast knowledge to make new units for the vex and Maya using her ability to forge a new mobile body for him to go around instead of being stuck as a giant head. And our vendor would be a helpful vex who gain a personality and wishes to understand us more.
There is Maya Sundaresh , there is Clovis, and there is Asher Mir combine it with Xivu, Savathun and Eris. Combine that with Fikrul, the spider and Variks and that makes for a very intresting symmetry and they all were in the final shape ending
I stopped caring about this story when Saint went from a complete existential crisis to “all better!” in one fell swoop. Then the big reveal of Maya. Then that bastard Encore mission. I am a solo Hunter. If I’m expected to get through a mission that was designed for a Fire Team, then put in some damn matchmaking. I shouldn’t have to jump through hoops of Find-a-Fireteam to progress the story. I didn’t even finish the 3rd act. I watched the ending on RU-vid. I’m glad I didn’t because the “nO wAy! Maya and the echo got away…” ending really drove home the question of: Why am I still playing this game?
Bungie have some serious problems with mission design. Half the episode was fetch quests to artificially extend the time. Followed by the majority of the dialogue being exposition told to you whilst doing said fetch quest. It felt like vanilla d1 all over again, just with an unskippable poorly written love story of two people saying the same thing for 6 weeks. Idk how many times i need to hear osiris sah he missed saint when he was gone lmao but its half the damn episodes diologue
I doubt the majority of players will enjoy the coming stories within destiny. We’ve killed the biggest evil in the universe and have finally got a foot hold on returning us to another golden age. Any new “villain” just seems like another road bump that we’re waiting to run over. If Bungie wanted to keep it interesting, we should have lost to the witness. The fragments of humanity fled to the shelter of the shards of the traveller in the EDZ, and we chase the echoes to regain enough strength to take the witness on one last time.
I do agree that it feels like we’ve seen a lot of Saint and Osiris, and I see the parallels with Osiris and Maya, but I have to say that their story really overshadowed the actual ‘threat’ of this episode. I honestly didn’t feel like Maya was the villain and I didn’t really care about what happened next. The ending with her ‘getting away’ from a Sentinel Shield and a Nova Bomb boggles my mind as the plot armor is strong with her. Like, really? I get wanting to set up future stories but, are these Echoes going to be relevant in the next saga? Cause it sounds like after Heresy, we’re off to new worlds. Also, if THAT is how the season ends, I need to ask: WHY ARENT WE GOING AFTER HER?! If the Echo allows her to have that much power, why wouldn’t we go after her? This episode’s story just felt so underwhelming to me. I know many seasons that launch alongside the DLC usually are but, man, oof I dunno about this one chief.
It looks like Bungie likely planned for these 3 echoes to be the thread starters to the future storylines in Frontiers. Sadly I think all effort had to be scaled down as funds and talent was cut back so we didn't quite get the full effect. Maya and the Vex is likely going to be a story that continues with us chasing after her in Vex colonies around the galaxy possibly culminating in a final at the Vex Forge Star volantis. There is dialogue in the exotic mission about Chioma being on a pink sky planet just like the Frontiers reveal art. The Scorn threat of Fikrul can be a powerful story about an Eliksni vs Scorn civil war culminating with a showdown in Riis and finally the showdown against Xivu Arath and the reclaiming of Torobatl. All this could be great if done right so I hope they can improve from here.
As a bit of a homo myself, I'm all for representation.. when it isn't shoe-horned constantly like with Saint and Osiris. It's every other season now that they're having issues, and we're forced to be the silent third-wheel-therapist somehow. Aside from that, story was just.. boring. Encore was boring. Failsafe was unironically the only thing I consistently enjoyed. Hope she stays around.
Its like aztecross said, it did follow directly after final shape, and perhaps the lay offs did effected the exacution. I think we can give bungie a pass this time! I wish the story would have involved otzot and the oxa machine, and that failsafe got a exobody and was beside us in the cutscence and i would have loved for her to save the day at the end!
This content was likely done months before the recent layoffs, but the ones from last year may have impacted 🤷♂️. I still love the games lore and hope we get more epic stories in the future
@@espguitarist13 wtf do you want us to do? Get our torches and pitchforks and say that bungie is a bunch of idiots and that they ruined destiny? You got to remember they are just regular people like us trying to do good work, sometimes it works out and sometimes i dosent
@@user-cn6uw4ln7m my question is, HOW will the Tangled shore come back. Will it be like the Leviathan did in Season of the Haunted? Or will it be like Titan from Season of the Deep?
We didn't fight Maya Sundaresh in this episode because it's not the time yet. Even if we did, it wouldn't matter. We can't beat her yet because there's more to the Echo of command than we know. Plus, she's partially a Exo and a Vex. Don't you think that if had indeed destroyed her she still wouldn't come back later?
Even if we don't get a third darkness subclass, this was a prefect opportunity to hint at the possibility. And just with changing the last cutscene, the story would have made it better, not petrifact but better. Example \/ The end cutscene should not have had Saint-14 breaking free, but instead only able to stop himself from moving forward. Ikora and Us(The Player) though should have almost mad it to the river with the player screaming to are self trying to fight back, and at the last moment a serge of blood red energy from are rage and anger comes forth in a single blast nocking Ikora way from the river and Maya Sundaresh back. and in a moment of shock from what the player just did, a meagerly damaged Maya Sundaresh would takes the opportunity to get the h*** out of dodge.
I would of liked it more if Asher could of helped us defeat the Conductor in some way from inside the Vex central core rather then let her just escape.
Bro, HOW DID SHE SURVIVE A DIRECT F*CKING NOVA BOMB HIT. SHE SHOULD HAVE EVAPORATED. this is why gameplay should be changed but thats a diff topic.also, how is the echo of command, a weaker part of the witness remnants of darkness, able to control US, a literal god slayer who has now transcended out of the universal laws into the unknown...like..how?! I also dare say they could have made this into a dual story. On one hand, we are trying to stop maya and put an end to her madness (even though the story could have been so much more than just that), and on the other hand, we could try to gain the echo of commands power for ourself, or atleast try to understand it and figure out how it works.
She had a very rare exotic gear called 'Plot Armour' its perk is that if you're a key charater in the story, then you tank *EVERYTHING* and only NPCs can obtain it last time I checked
i didnt like having to replay the exotic mission just to progress the story. i dont mind having to replay missions but as a solo player, completing the encore mission took around 45 minutes per run. waiting for all content to be released and playing it in one go would be a nightmare. having to run encore back-to-back multiple times
Failsafe is my favourite, things have gotten so serious, nice to have some jokes. St 14 did have the best joke about being a Titan which was a unexpected great joke.
Maya sundaresh is a pretty cool villain tbh. I’d like to explore the vex and individuality a bit more. Give me a friendly vex character and I’ll be excited. Give me more failsafe too she’s a good ai companion. Osiris and Saint is relationship goals. And hey I’m all for deep connections with characters. LET ME HAVE A LOVE PLOT WITH THE GAURDIAN AND EXO STRANGER BUNGIE YOU COWARDS
What an underwhelming ending, maya could have defended herself using the echo against Saint and Ikoras abilities instead of just tanking them? It's just weird writing to have her survive actual supers without any protection on her part
Well the 2nd season(or in this case, episode) tends to do better than the 1st one. I mean look at Black armory, Season of Dawn, and Season of the Chosen
Failsafe is a very good NPC. It's better if the entire story is dropped at once. It would provide better continuity and let folks finish it at their own pace.
I know people are tired of hearing this, and I do not care, but I miss the Bungie from Halo 3 and Reach. They cared for their games and their community back then. Say what you want about Bungie now, but I know that many others like me think the content they put out now is no where near as high quality as it used to be.
Oh no another person complaining about a triple A studio not following what the fans want and what they were before, oh no what shall we do? Guess people are stuck in the past and just haven't learned to just not care anymore of what game studios do.
It was refreshing to get some new missions, but I would’ve had the mission broken into 3 parts the whole mission part one, the catalyst part two and the first part of part three we would fight the conductor, and as she is almost dead, then you have a unbelievable amount of vex waves coming in and the conductor escapes
Looks like bungie cant even figure out a good story line for the vex. So much so instead they have to focus on love stories and moral dilemmas that are so over done
Personally, as someone who doesn’t always have a lot time to pour into the game I prefer the short weekly missions. I think exotic missions are great, but I don’t like having the story gated behind them.
I DO NOT like that the Conductor got away at the end of the Act 3 story. This means we will eventually see her again some point in the future. This irritates me because I cannot emphasize enough how much I HATE her HORRID voice.
yup. people been praising the VA, and while she may be good, its not like hearing that is actually horrifying/enjoyable, she sounds like she has both asthma and a lack of emotions
Everyone coping and saying this episode wasn't bad is the reason we get this mediocrity. This episode was a huge nothing burger with barely any story beats or any sort of story progression. The ending was so stupid. She survives 2 supers and everybody just WATCHES her float away slower than a snail instead of grabbing her and smashing her to bits or blowing her up. We got more quantity of content but the quality was the same as always, nothing innovative or groundbreaking. It's just the same stuff we've been doing for years. Yeah the exotic mission was cool but it being tied to the seasonal story and being forced to run it over and over again every week took away a lot of it's novelty. Revanant has to accomplish a ton by being actually innovative and replayable or I may just be done with destiny after Heresy. I already know most of my friends were done after TFS and have barely touched the episodic stuff.
echos has the same problem as shadowkeep, its an intro, it introduces a villain which means there no real satisfying ending however the writing could be a bit better and way less cringe/focused on love, idk why bungie is hiring all these woke writing but they love this story for some reason, we play destiny for fun not to hear saint talk about how hes in love with himself and accepts himself for how he is, we dont care we just want to kill bad guys
Well to be fair, the confrontation with the Conductor had multiple factors, there is the Conductor weakened from our battle with the Choral Mind, then there is her incomplete usage of the Echo since she just got it not long ago.
My disappointment was immense when I realized there wasn’t going to be any continuation on the Vex no longer being a “collective” but being a “community”, according to Ikora. It’s a super cool concept that this sect of Vex think independently of one another, and opened up an amazing opportunity for a Vex ally who was against Maya. Instead, we got some goofy “only you know who you are” story and a bunch of forced same-sex relationships. Listen, it’s whatever to have two same-sex characters in a relationship, that’s fine. My issue is when it becomes their entire personality and motivation for fucking EVERYTHING. Bungie has seriously got to learn how to make stories without forced romantic relationships, it’s fucking cringe.
The exotic mission glitched six times in a row for me. I have officially uninstalled the game. That narrative is dead. There’s no passion in the game anymore. There’s nothing to chase.
Haven’t touched the game since Into the Light. The more I see, the more I’m convinced I made the right decision. None of what I’ve seen since gets me excited, or makes me want to spend the money they’re asking just to play through this garbage.
I’m gonna give this episode one last chance given it should have a final mission to end the episode at the last week before revenant starts, if that flops then who knows
I was very annoyed with the repetitive mission of encore in order to advance the story. I ended up not to continue on the 3rd week. I just watch a RU-vid video of it and I’m glad I didn’t since the ending was underwhelming.
I was liking it a little but after act 2 I couldn’t bring myself to play it. I got choir of one and the crafted stuff I wanted. I’ll be back for Episode 2 and 3 since those are the ones I was exited for. Cause vampire or however they called it with the fanatic sounds sick. Along with the dreadnaught.
I think we need more new ally characters to make stories about. I love them but its enough of Crow, Osiris, Saint, etc. Please, theres like 32423823423942034 guardiands according to the lore, theres no need to make stories about the same ones over and over and over and over and over again. If the next episode is about Mithrax again im gonna fking scream.
It’s good and all in next episode we get go do the whole story at our own pace but we will get the people that finish the whole story in week 1. Then there will be nothing for 17 weeks.
This storyline was absolute garbage. The ending!? I literally feel ripped off. Again, how would the conductor remotely be a threat? Its power is literally a billionoth of a fragment of the witness, which was smashed in its entirety. This shit was fucking trash dawg.
My issue with the episode system is annoying with the story direction. Story comes across for me as the focus is on other things instead of useful stuff. Encore is honestly annoying, i solo so trying to do expert is a hell of a lot harder for me so after the first try on expert i havent touched it since.
legitimately just got tired of doing the same thing over 3 weeks and only got up till the point of echoes act 3 w 1, The ending is super underwhelming and had already seen it with the leaks that happened a while back.
That is the lamest story in destiny history for me I am including the curse of Osiris dlc, I didn't do last week story/encore mission, I watched your video yesterday so I'm not doing this week story/encore mission,. For me it will be the first time not finishing the season "episode" I've been playing destiny since 2014.
It felt like a false victory again. Like we reached our main objective but it really didn’t change anything. Nothing feels changed in the enemy faction besides the rings. Would’ve been fun to see a few vex start to develop their own personality’s and speak to us. Have a boogie man of sorts in the exotic mission that would hunt us down and insult us and the final mission would have us fight against the boogie man vex and others who’ve we encountered over the episodes as they defend Myia and finally put them to rest.
Watching these 'Acts' and how the storyline ended, makes me glad I stopped playing and buying Destiny 2 games. It's just so.... disjointed. It started strong, and then it just... fizzled. And why did they have Saint said the same thing Cayde did when he sacrificed himself??? Like.... it lessens the impact of Cayde's sacrifice. It's bad writing, and insulting to those of us that still love the lore and the story.
Wow, hiring incompetent people solely because of how they look turned out to be a bad idea for the story and game development. Who would’ve guessed. They’ve only ruined everything they get their disgusting hands on. Destiny has been dead since they let the franchise get usurped by people who just want to write gay fan fiction. What a fucking joke.
Some of the things I do like about this episode was expanding on Saint and Osiris's relationship which I hated the idea that they are a couple previously until now where still hate it but I at least appreciate how healthy it is and how it was handled when used as a parallel with Chioma and Maya's relationship. Seeing what Maya as the Conductor was capable of greatly humbled Osiris and made him really think about his decisions with the Sundial and Infinite Forest. Saint after being controlled by Maya and was struck with a logic plague of sorts that made Saint question his existence until he linked with the original Saint in his tomb and gained clarity and a greater appreciation for himself and how lucky he is. Funny enough, the puzzles thing and wearing her down is something I had thought of. However, for the boss fight, it will not be fighting the Conductor directly but indirectly through powerful Vex she creates. That is after demonstrating how crafty her Vex had became thanks to independent thought via creating a trap and an ambush. Maya not being the one to fight herself would fit her conductor motif and because she herself sucks at fighting in the traditional sense. The cutscene however I will keep what we got even if it's slightly altered where she escapes with the Echo anyway because it would be a waste to kill her off that soon. On the other hand, with Yirix resurfacing and gaining allies among the Dread and the Shadow Legion. We could be getting more out of him throughout the Episodes even if it's not simply doing something with the OXA machine but looking towards the other Echoes.
I disliked the heavy focus on two LGBTQ relationships. It is simply an agenda. An ideology that is pushed to us. I mean I would even have found it boring if it was about hetero couples. I don't need that soap opera stuff in video games, especially not in a SciFi one. On top Saint-14's voice in German is from a new speaker. He sounds so ridiculous now. Of course the encounters with Maya were a joke as well. I actually felt almost no excitement along the story line. The last battle ground and the exotic mission were pretty decent though and some of the weapons are quite useful.
In 6 months they told about 4 minutes of story content.. and 3 minutes of them were focused on gay dudes cornholing eachother. Gee… I wonder why they’re in such financial trouble…
How bout a new boss? Oh look another hydra boss.... there were giant exos and stuff growing out of them in the exotic mission. Maybe a giant exotic boss or something cool... nope. Another hydra... Destiny is all copy paste.
The ending in a nutshell: Ikora: we can stop Maya with the power of love Everyone: oh no that didn't work. Maya: I can do whatever I want, but I won't and now I will go away for no reason.
We need more cutscenes it just takes a bit out of the emergen when cheoma and maya have there deep back and forth this week 95% of us were emoting through the dialog I could only imagine the pain in cheoma’s eyes I can’t see it only hear voice logs it just pulls me out of the story sometimes takes away the weight like that kind of betrayal could have been a monster scene in a movie
I never seen in any game in my life you beat a boss in a cutscene not even a boss fight you could see how low an cheap it is after bungie got your money.
@dankvada4588 bruh, my answer was deleted. Thank you youtube. I basically said that Sony will push for more characters like these. They tried to do it on concord before it mega flopped and it wont surprise me if they dont learn nothing from it
