I went through my Freeds in like 3 days and that's way faster than when I was in Capezio Ava's (which lasted me over a month). It's hard when you have to buy your own shoes but pointe is so fun that it's worth it.

Thank goodness the professional dancers in a company are sponsored, $100+ per pair, and going through a pair every few days, then having to buy your own it would certainly add up. I can easily see where a dance companies pointe shoe budget would be in the thousands of $$$$.

I liked when my point shoes were softer. I would wear them until the box almost died. I thought they felt lighter easier to dance in just had to have really good padding for my toes.

I got my first pair of pointe shoes from Energetiks (Russian Pointe) because I knew they lasted longer than other brands like capezio. I couldn’t/can’t get over on my shoes because they are too hard (even though it’s the softest shank strength). So the other day I went to a store that sells mostly Capezios, Gaynor Minden and Bloch pointe shoes. The lady there gave me Capezios and I could get over on the box really well. (I need to come back to the store another day though because they were out of stock in m width). When I got my shoes from Energetiks the fitting took one and a half hours but it only took 10 mins to find a shoe I could get over on in this other store.

OK, stupid question: Why don't serious ballerinas have molds made of their feet and customize the shoe to that, instead of getting a manufactured shoe to fit them personally? Like flat and en pointe? $100 to throw down on a shoe is a lot for me, and then having to "destroy" it to fit just blows my mind!

Because they’re handmade so every shoe is slightly different. You can break them in and make them the same.

Not that similar, but I do wish there was a similar function of rock shoe fitters also pointe shoes. Wearing miura velcros hurt my feet far more than pointe shoes ever did

JOSEPHINE I HAVE A BURNING QUESTION So, from my understanding, the shoe has a lot to do with the formation of bunions and other damage to a ballerinas feet. Do you think barefoot shoes would improve that? Like if having weight and pressure in a specific way is what causes the bunions, then if all the rest of your shoes are made specifically to separate and give your toes MORE room and keeping them in a more natural shape, wouldn't that help prevent bunions? I had this thought and now it won't leave me alone pls someone answer me also obviously its unlikely that any ballerina would ever wear barefoot shoes but that's besides the point I JUST WANNA KNOOOOW

I have a pair I got for like 20 or $30 like from Amazon and they are so nice I put an elastic band over the arch and around the heel and then I have the ribbons that came with it to tie around right above the elastic band that's how I customized mine and then I broke the heel pretty high I was surprised I don't even feel the weight on my toes it feels like it's on the side of my foot when I wear them I don't do ballet ballet I just am standing I can't get up on them myself I have to hold the bar but I can stand and let go of the bar for a little bit I've only had a few days of ballet when I was a kid

please please please don't do that. I know it seems fun and you have a bit of experience, but wearing Pointe shoes (especially ones from Amazon and not real ones) when you aren't ready can be extremely dangerous. you can roll or break an ankle, get a stress fracture in your foot and many other injuries. take more classes, build up your strength, and talk to your teacher. when you're ready for pointe, your teacher will know. It's not worth it.

Oh yikes, do not go on pointe if you don't have proper training and DEFINITELY don't do it if you just bought some cheap crap from Amazon
