For some reason this video is as soothing as watching Bob Ross paint a happy masterpiece right in front of my eyes. Now I'm not sure whether to fix my headliner or just replay the video and take a nap.
@@HeadlinerMagic agree 100%!!! You make it look so easy! I'm sure it's an ease & skill that's come with practice, but now I'm much less intimated to try it myself!
@@rocki_bb Thank you Rocki, That is what we are aiming for. We want to give you the courage to tackle this your self and save a tremendous amount of money. My goal is to help as many people as possible feel great about trying this themselves. I'm only one guy and I would love to do every headliner out there. I know as some point the sagging headliner would win. But at this rate each one teach one! We may have a chance to beat the sagging curve. Thank you for watching and commenting. Marcus
Great video!! Clear, concise and to the point! I love it. I know that replacing the headliner isn't the "hardest" job to do on an interior, especially for you, but... having a great "how to" really helps! Must people like me, really want to do this, but are afraid of making simple mistakes and having to buy more material, and wasting time. Thank you, so much for making this! I have a future project, and for some reason, this was my biggest worry. Now I know I can easily tackle this job, no problem! I really appreciate, also that you have the products to order in your description!
Your videos have been very helpful. I am tackling this job on my Volkswagen. I didn't have a wire brush or that tool, but some laundry detergent on a nylon brush got all the old foam and glue residue off. I didn't get it too wet so the board wouldn't get ruined. The disassembly and putting it back have been the hardest parts, so many clips, especially with the sunroof!
Yes Jessica, the VWs are some of the most difficult once especially 2006 to 08 they used some flotation hardware on the visors and grab handles and if one of these fall out your project time can be extended. Let me know if I can be of help. Marcus
Glad it was helpful Peter, Thank you for watching. I have provided a link to the corrected version of the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mnd6EiXHicc.html Marcus
Excellent work and informative video. If it weren’t for al the bad Google reviews I might have purchased from you. Still helped me out thought with this.
No worries. We are working on a lot of back orders due to vendor and shipping issues. Customers are quick to leave bad news, but once a issue is resolve they don't update the feed to let the other customers know what the outcome is. Out of the 1000s of orders that go out, it a percentage of customers that leave feedback. We have been tested since November last year when a company infringed on our trademark and cause us to lose 30k in sales per month. This went on until February. We were able to get it resolved and then the virus ⚠️ hit. Our business Increase in sales due to everyone being at home 🏡. Good and bad. We have since put measures in place to combat the workload. But it not an overnight process. But we are blessed to have the opportunity to work thru it as it has made us a stronger company because of it. Thanks you for the feedback. Life is the best teacher. It's not what happens, it what are you going to do about it. Marcus
Laying the foam down first is definitely the way to go. But if you choose not to the process will still work as long as the board is clean of all debris. The amount of stretch in the fabric you choose to use will help to eliminate wrinkles.
@@EscapePlanSkateboarding Yes indeed EscapePlan Skateboarding. I love the screen names guys! You can definitely lay the new liner over the existing one if the integrity of the old one is still intact. You may have to use a bit more glue because the old foam headliner will absorb some of the glue sprayed. Marcus
Marcus, when a person takes his car into a headliner shop, they only replace the foam, not the board? How much does it cost, on the average, to obtain a "new" headliner, say for a 2004 Ford Ranger?
If you are referring to the board cost. The newer cars are only available from the dealership and the cost can range from 600 and up just for the headliner board. Good news is it comes wrapped with foam backed headliner. That cost does not included installation. The 04 Ranger should cost in 2020 around 175 for single cab and 225 for extended cab in my opinion for the headliner material replacement. Price could vary per shop and materials used.
Those boards are very brittle, once you pulley it out get all the broken pieces and piece it together like a puzzle then flip it over with the side up that the headliner doesn't go on clean the area were the separation occurred and then use the gray duck tape to line the broken spots. Then flip it back over and clean the board and began the headliner install process. You can add duck tape to both sides if necessary but the headliner will hold the front together. Walla magic!
Hey im thinking to do this aswell, but in alcantara, but I’ve seen and heard that over time its starts to come off because of the glue as its not factory glue? What’s your opinions on this? Thank you.
Loved the video, I was browsing the website in order to order some fabric from you guys. However, how do I figure out the correct foam backing of my oem headliner? I see you guys have 1/8 and 3/16 available (I drive an 08 Mitsubishi lancer GTS with sunroof).
Hey I just brought some adhesive from your store the other day by any chance do you know how I could put my headliner back into a Chrysler 300 without bending it
I can help you with that. This is a tough one but here we go💨💨 First recline both front seats, then the driver side seat let it all the way down and back. We will be going in the back door on the drivers side. The board will be turned side ways and shove it down the side of the seat and lean in the top part towards the roof. The board is fiberglass so a little bending wont hurt it at all. you can go around to the passenger side front to make sure you are clear going in towards the dash. Once you get it in you will swing the back over towards the passenger side and you all good.
I’m not sure why but the audio cut out at about 6-7 minutes in. But nonetheless, by watching you work with the material and lay down the adhesive, it seems easy enough to follow, as long as you pay attention and take your time. Thanks for the awesome video!

The real difficult part is removing the headliner and re-installing it once the fabric is replaced. depending on the vehicle model, you may have to remove whole bunch of trims before you can remove the headliner.
I've been wanting to repair my headliner for years but could never find a decent video of how to do it, so glad I found this video and now have a project for quarantine!
@@HeadlinerMagic You can get the nasal rinse from Costco, or any pharmacy like Walgreens or CVS. Neilmed is the brand that I use as they have the prepackaged salt and then you just have to buy distilled water. Definitely use distilled water and heat the solution in the container for about 20-30 seconds in the microwave, nothing longer than that as the water will get too hot. Then just bend over in the sink and squirt the solution up into your nose and enjoy the crud that will soon come tumbling out! lol Its actually something I believe everyone should do periodically. Always store the bottle without the top on to allow the container to dry and not get mildew etc between uses. I store my bottle in the cardboard box with the top wedged into one of the corners of the box. BTW Marcus, I agree wholeheartedly with all the comments above from others! Great tutorial, except I lost sound at 6:12 and thereafter. Up until then, it was an excellent video. The sound came back at the very end, but too late to learn how to trim. Please fix!
This was an incredible video very well described. Before I was very nervous about having to fix my saggy old headliner and this has me feeling less stressed thinking this may actually be an easy job. I've reupholstered chairs before and honestly it might be harder than this because you just glue the whole thing down it makes it look so easy.
Sir, this IS the BEST headliner video I've seen to date that aint botched with shitty loud music and crass, just plain dumb jokes. YOU RELEASED AN ABSOLUTE EXCELLENT TUTORIAL ! Thank you!!! Q: Have you thought about teaming with Sprayway Customs to do a Webinar?
Crazy you asked Christopher. I reached out to him about 2 to 3 months ago and got no answer. I know the messages can get a little overwhelming so I just left it at that. I felt like we could make a good collaboration. I was subscribed to him for a while he does great work. I learned how to better my fiberglass techniques thru him. this was a perfect presentation but due to the technical audio failure from 06:11 to 08:11 i couldn't hear anything you stated. also so many questions like how many high temp adhesive cans it you utilize before the job was complete, should some be wearing gloves and safety glasses when doing this type of work, and what would a typical job like this run?

Awesome instructional video. I’ve done several headliners before but I have never used the method of starting in the middle and doing a little section at a time. That’s a great idea. I’m going to do a Buick National in a few weeks and I’m going to use this method. Thanks
Very good display of installation for the headliner. Exactly what I was looking for...detailed and no BS commentaries ...direct to the point ...well done
Thank you for making a very simplistic and easy video to follow. I’ll be doing my headliner in my Chevy truck with more confidence now. I greatly appreciate your video. 💯
Quick tip, DO NOT FOLLOW the directions on the can! Do not allow the product to tack up before you lay the headliner; it will instantly create wrinkles and your material will be ruined. I'm having to peel mine off and order new liner and glue 👎
Thank you Sed6 for watching. And yes the glue instructions are not up to par. I always suggest to spray a short amount of area and work it quickly. Marcus
Very well demonstrated and straight to the point. This is the first video tutorial I have really had to take my time to watch because every single thing was on point. Message sent clearly and carefully explained too. Thanks
Everything looks so easy on RU-vid but it's really not. Believe me, been there, done it. And about 99% of my YT projects fail. You pretty much have to know what your doing. No offense to your video, Sir. It's just My experience's. Lol.
Chas, I have had some projects as well not work out, but with every try things will get better. One thing is for sure we all started with no experience. Its the ones who keep going. I am able to articulate and show it to be easy because I keep going for many years. The first one can be great or not so great, but if you take the action you will have a base line to start from. A positive mental attitude is really part of the 80 / 20 rule. 80% action with confidence and 20% knowledge to began a project. If you reverse it we would never start any projects hardly. My I ask what is your best skill set or hobby that your good at? I would bet you are great at many things. Marcus

finally someone who machine disasses the glue residue!!
Dear Headliner Magic How long after you glue the headliner should you wait to install it ? I used fabric backed Vinyl. upholstery type stuff from Jo Ann's .
Gluing Vinyl take a while to fully cure because the gases have to escape from between the vinyl and the other surface. Also let me know what glue you are using?
This video made my day. I've been pondering how to replace the headliner in my '96 Regal Sedan. After watching this I'm sure I'll have No problem doing it myself..
Thank you very much for the best film on the headliner replacement. I plan this project, but not sure if this can be done at lower temperatures (around 50F)? Would it cause just longer times for glue to stick, or it can be other problems and better to wait when it gets warmer? Thank you again.
Hello Olena, you can do it in lower temps. Like you said you will just have a longer tack time for it to dry. This can be a good thing tho if you are spraying a larger area. Marcus
@@HeadlinerMagic Thank you, Sir, so see even some positive effects here with lower temperatures. I also want to inquire what do you think about KilMat (sound deadening)? I bought it to put under the headliner, but now think it might be difficult because of all those curves. Thank you again for the wonderful film.
@@olenaerhardt7725 The sound deadening is a great addition to your project. it will be a little tough around some curves but it doesn't have to be perfect. You can cut it and place it like that as well. It will still work the same.
@@HeadlinerMagic Thank you, it is very kind of you to answer my questions. I bought Kilmat in pieces (like 1'x1'), so it would be easier to apply. Really bcs it goes under the liner it shouldn't be perfect. I'll just try my best. Thanks a lot for the idea, Sir.

Thank you so much. My mother did upholstery as a career but they didn't offer premade linings then. She always struggled with the glue seeping through the thin fabric. Remembering that issue i came to learn the secret only to find out that the issue has bees solved by inexpensive prelined material. You've saved me a great deal of time and effort.

Really enjoyed you presentation, first time I've caught you! About 3 minutes toward the end the audio went out, not sure it was on my end , but it came back in the last minute. Is it possible for you to do a video when you have no or a damaged beyond reuse head board??

I don't get how you don't have any more views and likes than you do. Best video I have seen on doing a head liner. By farrr! Good work man. Looks extremely good!
What do you do when you take the fabric off and the foam underneath is still in good shape? It's not crumbling or anything? Should it be removed anyway? And why?
Normally whatever headliner material you buy comes with the foam insulation already on it so you should still clean it off since you’re putting new foam over it anyways
That was a great instructive video. Wish I had seen it before scraping all the foam off with a wire brush. Harder than I expected but it does work. However, this will definitely help me get the new material installed right. Thank you!
I found laundry soap and a nylon brush works without digging in to the headliner board. Just rinse and let it dry well (put mine in the sun for a few hours).
Thank u as well for commenting to Dave. Share a pic when your done if u need any other help just contact us and we will be delighted to assist. Happy Holidays to you and the family.
The material for the Honda Ridgeline will be the flat knit style headliner. Please tell me if your is gray or tan and I will get you you to the right color match . The adhesive used is called the Performance adhesive. Thank u for viewing. Marcus
Thanks for the tip, but not everone has the compressor setup. So the performance is their best option currently. We are working on a new formula for the spray can adhesive. Marcus Headliner Magic
This guy really knows his craft. Plus, he instills a lot of confidence. Watch this through before starting the job. One comment: my old foam came off with a plain scrub brush with little effort. Used denatured alcohol as a glue release agent where needed. Use wire brush only if needed.
Great technique! thanks for sharing. I'm a trim carpenter and spray Wilson adhesive to bond mica and thermofoil onto mdf or plywood. Do you think that would work on the foam?
Would you recommend gluing straight to an old headliner? Got a 14 Chrysler 300 and the headliner is mint just want to change it up but dont wanna pull it all off if i dont need to
Yes, you can go right over a headliner if it is in great condition. You will need to use a bit more spray adhesive as the old liner will absorb some. Marcus
Best headliner tutorial on youtube by far. I've done this many times and it came up on suggested. Only thing I do that you don't is cut relief cuts and fold over the material on the inside of the holes for the lights. Great video!
Thanks Nicholas for watching. I did years ago cut the relief s and fold the cuts in on the lights and visor holds. But over time I realize that those accessories have enough tension to hold the material close enough to the board to create a great seal. Thank you again for watching. Marcus
Was about to order something from Germany was supper confused but am definitely goin to order from you I have a Volkswagen rabbit do you know how many yards I would need

It is interesting to watch, but how much would a shop that does headliners, what would be an estimated price to get it done, for example on a 2008 mercury mariner?
Thanks Ben for watching our videos. We would charge $475 for the headliner replacement without a sunroof and $525 with a sunroof. It would take us 3-4 hours for the replacement and come with a 1 yr warranty. The headliner replacement kit to do it your self would included 3 yards of material for the none sunroof model and 3 cans of spray adhesive. The cost for the DIY kit would be $118.80. So you would have a savings of $350 by doing the job yourself. Marcus

Very well done. By far one of the best and thorough videos I've seen doing a headliner install. Very few edits, beginning to end. This is how an artisan works. Quick, careful, and attention to detail. GREAT work sir, and thanks for sharing the video. I wish you a lot of success. Skill like this deserves it.
It seems like your fabric is thicker than most vendors? How thick is the backing and material? Does thickness make a difference in application i.e. less wrinkles, easier to stretch or fill curves/creases?
Great question Kabarrion, the thickness is important to a job with a sunroof. It Neea to be 1/8” used so that the sliding shade will slide easily. The material in the video was 3/16”. With that thickness it works best to show less debris left in the board and the glue will have less of a chance for bleed thru of sprayed incorrectly. I personally like working with the thinner headliner as it does stretch better in and around curves. But with the right technique they both are a winner. Our materials have a quality foam backing for a long lasting installation. Marcus
This is soooo awesome and looks way simple. Also I was wondering instead of blowing the debris, can I just vacuum it up? 🤔 It seems like an easier cleanup where I live.
