In this Breaking Disney News update, Brayden gives you a look at the newly leaked concept art of the now-cancelled Mary Poppins attraction originally slated for the UK Pavilion at EPCOT inside Walt Disney World. The art details the interior layout and teacup ride nature of the attraction former CEO Bob Chapek hyped up at the D23 Expo in 2019. This is Mickey Views News, your source for Disney news!

Just for fun I wanted to list off some of the other rumored iterations of this long in-development Mary Poppins project. Originally, in the 2010's we heard about an outdoor carousel, then an indoor carousel (avoid rain), then maybe some kind of double carousel indoors (Disney found the hourly capacity was still too low), then a projection teacup ride (made people sick), then a cardboard cutout teacup ride (pictured throughout video), then it was paused, then it was rumoredly cancelled. Which iteration would you have prefered, if any? Enjoy the video! 😁~Brayden

I like the double carousel idea. Can I be out there and say they should of done a trackless ride that starts off as a regular teapot attraction and then each of the cups goes off in to the crazy Mary Poppins style adventure
@cbtink2
@cbtink2 Год назад
None of them. The carousel makes the most sense theme wise, but there is already a carousel in MK. I'm glad they didn't do it at all and give us something so sub-par. Spend the money fixing/updating what needs it, until they are actually committed to projects at the level of imagineering we expect from Disney- from start to finish.

I think a carousel ride with a 360 screen around the outside and “barrel” screen in the center could create some Runaway Railway-type magical scene changes and would work well, disorienting teacup effect.
@luma4902

I feel like Mary poppins deserve better than any of that i like the idea some people gave of it of starting as a normal tea cup or carousel and evolving from that to a dark ride
@chrishamby86

Ultimatley if they made it like riding a carousel animal on a dark track as you move through various scenes that would have been the best. Lots of various animals to get on and I assume if it was continuous the capacity would have been quite high like Spaceship Earth (obviously SE is the ultimate capacity eater
@mjgrant298

I always imagined this as starting on a carousel, which after a few turned would then have the individual horses leave this as a tracked ride through various animated scenes, ending on the carousel for disembark / next loading. That way you could have two separate carousels for loading / unloading to speed throughput

Well and bc he sought to dismantle every single thing that had any value to “legacy fans” he found so useless. His refusal to acknowledge any of the values previously held dear to any disney employee. His treatment of the peasants also known as cast members. His constant brown nosing of wealthy elites. His unprofessional interaction with anyone who had the nerve to call him out on his deplorable behavior. Then there was the use of the company to insert himself into politics and push his own agenda on to any family having anything to do with any disney product. He was the worst thing that could ever have happened to disney as a company. In less than three years he annihilated the trust and loyalty of guests the world over. Bob Chapek not only did not understand the company he was running, he clearly hated and had no interest in the company culture that had made Disney the best of the best for generations. He was an atomic bomb from which Disney may never recover.

I would much prefer it to use the Peter Pan ride system but be on horses. It would be a dark-ride horse race attraction through the world of Mary Poppins. The horse would be below the track and would be slightly above the ground, but you would not notice it. The horse would have the ability to rock back and forth as well and could use the Flight of Passage breathing technology. The Peter Pan system would make it so that it looks like your horse is really running on the ground, as you would not be able to see a track. The track above you could be colored to blend in or could be a pure black color to blend in with the ceiling.

👏 Yes that is exactly what I was thinking. I have always wanted to get on that carousel horse and ride through those famous scenes in the original movie. How could you not think of that first as a ride? It could be so amazing especially if they put in a penguin tea shop you could eat at also. I mean a tea cup ride I don’t really get it with all of the imaginative scenarios in both of those movies to use. It’s like if someone said I have a great idea let’s remake a dumbo ride for Mary Poppins and you could hold on to a kite. Or I guess in business terms what is the easiest and cheapest way to slightly entertain guests throw in some teacups and change the setting equals a completely different ride.
@demetreasandrews
@demetreasandrews Год назад
I've had this thought as well. The queue is the Banks' home leading to the chalk drawing. Then you go to a giant carousel that rotates a few times until the horses leave the carousel and goes through the drawing/rooftops of London
@christopherthedisneydude6621
@@demetreasandrews Yep, exactly what I was thinking. I was also thinking they could do a pre show similar to the idea you had, or use the system used in the Cosmic Rewind pre show. Bert says to close your eyes and think of the most wonderful thing, the lights turn off, the walls lift, and you are inside the painting with an animatronic of Bert and Mary sitting by a tree. The painting idea is another thought I had. There are three paintings on a wall and the one at the center is of the park. Bert talks about each one, and then you walk through the center one. The last pre show concept I had would be with the bowl from Mary Poppins Returns. The bowl starts spinning, the walls use projection mapping to show wind and flowers flying around, lights go off, walls lift up, and you are in the bowl from Mary Poppins Returns.

Parks need small attractions, to really round out the guest experience. I do believe modern Disney is about marketing each attraction to its greatest exterior potential, verses creating a smaller experience that thins crowds and allows each guest to experience more attractions. There would a little area with the Mary Poppins attraction, an Alice in Wonderland labyrinth, a Winnie the Pooh themed picnic area, and a Peter Pan fountain like the one found in Kensington Gardens.

A Marry Poppins ride should have been, using the same show space size, a mix between a merry-go-round meets mickey and Minnie's run away and the tiki room where as the marry-go-round moves, the environment changes, and characters (birds/animals) come out. The merry-go-round horses can turn around so that everyone faces the inside or outside, or backwards, the top turns into a sky, the surroundings are digitally projected. Would be a first of its kind and not too thrilling so family could enjoy it. Sort of like the next evolutionary step of a merry-go-round in general

It won't be done because of the cost, BUT, given the success of the Beauty and The Beast attraction in Japan, THAT is the type of attraction Mary Poppins deserves in EPCOT. Imagine starting off on a slightly smaller TeaCup spinning platform and having your cups spin off the table, travel behind the 2D scenery and into fully fleshed out scenes from the beloved original movie. The tea cups still work because they were in the I Love To Laugh scene. There is so much that can be done. And I'm so over Disney making excuses for not being DISNEY.

What a waste of creative engineering. There are so many wonderful dark ride options. I have no interest in another tea cup ride.

A beautiful Mary Poppins themed old school carousel in Cherry Tree Lane would be a beautiful addition to Epcot. Not everything has to be crazy screens and innovative.

Pre-show looked kind of cool. Maybe we can still get a photopass meet and greet - at the pre-existing gazebo - with an added lightning lane of course.

It’s so hard to hear that Disney doesn’t have money for anything when a family of four would literally spend close to a thousand dollars for just one day in the park. This isn’t sustainable on either side! At some point just having all the same things and changing the “festivals” is going to grow old and people will stop attending. I was a die hard Disney fan but we are saving our money for Universal next time. It’s really sad. I feel like they pushed all their imagineers over to Universal.

The amount of money they spent to acquire 20th Century Fox was absolutely staggering--it dwarfed the Lucasfilm and Marvel acquisitions, and it was all borrowed money. Now they've got all this debt to service. They really are in the hole.

I was very disappointed when I found out it was cancelled, but when I saw the leaked concept art - I was utterly stunned. I’m so glad it was cancelled now. Disney is becoming a complete joke. Can’t wait for Universal to put them in their place with Epic Universe.

Disney: You can meet the Mandalorian and Grogru! Stay at out $5,000 hotel! Universal: We're building a fourth theme park with a new Harry Potter area and franchises you love. We're building budget-friendly hotels that are still really nice. Oh, we're also building mini-parks geared for grade school kids in different states. I LOVE Disney, but they need to step it up.

Having a toddler, I think this would have actually been a nice addition that we would have enjoyed together as a family. 👏With the being said, hyping it up like an E Ticket attraction was not cool. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for all the work you put in

I think the Mary Poppins attraction should be a live action show with cast members performing dance routines like Step in Time, having Mary sing with the kids, key, classic iconic elements from the original movie.

If they changed the ride to be something like a HUSS Breakdance ride they probably could've gotten the projection idea to work.

The scary thought about cash flow is that Disney is committed to buy the last third of Hulu next year for $27B. They will not have Money to respond to Epic Universe for years.

The ride should of been a trackless sort of vehicle that looks like a carousel but broke off into a horse race. It fits with the movie. Disney could of done something like Universal did with Hogwarts Express illusion with the brick wall doorway and made a chalk drawing stairway to the ride. Since Disney was going to go with the newer movie and not the original im glad it got scrapped.

While Mary Poppins deserves a ride, a knock off of an already existing ride is a no go for me. They have the space for a truly magical and heartwarming ride for Mary. Imagine being greeted by a Bert animatronic that sets up the story and then popping into a chalk drawing for a Jolly Holiday with Mary and ends with you soaring like a kite in the skies as Mary flies off. Doesn’t that sound better than teacups!?! 😊

Mr. Chapek sort of overpromised something, that would not come to fruition. At least with the last D23 Expo, much was blue-sky concepts, which Disney didn’t really overpromise for the future. People came away a bit disappointed, but might as well be disappointed upfront, than to be disappointed later, with anticipation of what should/could have been. If something does come, it will be like those overinflated wait times, that gives you that false sense of victory.

Why do i get the feeling they still purchased the ride, but it will be installed at Disneyland Paris Studios as "Tangled" ride. Changing the gondolas early in the order is no problem i guess, looking at the changes made to the Efteling Teacup Version

People need to realize the Disney of the 80s and 90s no longer exists. They. Don't. Care. This is what we mean when we say the magic is gone. Iger is partly to blame it. He started this culture and made this mess the first time he was CEO.
