Just got the gold standard polish here in the uk, waiting for the pads to come in to stock, really impressed with the polish and i am back using my rotary 👍
You've given me the confidence to start polishing vehicles so I just picked up your pads and polish. I can't wait to start, it looks so fun! Thank you, Yvan.
If you are worried about polishing your own vehicle you can do it. I just did my black 2019 4Runner and it came out awesome. Take your time and have fun.
I've been my waxing and polishing the old-fashioned way since 73. My cars look like they've just been painted, deep, and crystal clear.. I don't bother buying all the current formulas.. I've been using 4 step maguires products.
I really like how Gold Standard Polish is both the cutting and the finishing lubricant. Only having the pad change simplifies the procedure and significantly cuts the polish time down!
Nice I ordered The Gold Standard on the 1year Birthday sale (no sale but it's ok) and it arrives right after this video goes live. Oh the timing couldn't possibly be better.
In 2019 I went to 3M and studied detail technician and I got the certificate and one of things I was scared how can use the rotary tool and you were right you técnico is the best and flex rotary is the best already have one with flex 340xc for me the best Very good instructional video. Best from Brussels Belgium 🇧🇪
Thanks for the video. I ordered for the polishing kit and it's on the way. It's going to be my first time to polish a car. This video is timely. I will use a 8mm polisher though.
I'm in the process of polishing a 2006 Blue Mini droptop that was likely never done. The perforated decon towel took it from a sandpaper finish to a finish that's smooth as silk. A uro fiber pad on My 3401 is doing a fine job polishing the paint. Followed by a waffle pad(Yours). Which is producing very nice shine. Perfect? No! Not going for that. Thank You for fantastic products! I have to get a pad washer. I'm sure it would have saved time. I've used a ton of pads.
Excellent information. I would like to see a video on polishing interior gauge cluster lens (lens materials are very sensitive to scratches during maintaince cleaning).
Yvan you were spot on with the questions in my head! Your info and products and priceless. I just hope all the “out of stock” goodies hurry up and get restocked lol
Love the video!! Very clear and concise, easy to understand instruction 👍 Question: You've mentioned in the past that one of the best benefits of the Lake Country pad washer is that it uses fresh solution everytime so you aren't cleaning the pad with dirty solution. How do you recommend duplicating that experience for the hobbiest that doesn't polish enough to justify the pad washer? I've seen you remove the pad and clean it in a bucket of solution but it seems like that solution would get dirty rather quickly. Thanks!
So before coating a vehicle, if I polish it it will remove the previous LSPs and then I can use the paint prep to get it clean. Hope that is correct. Excellent and helpful video, thank you.
Great video Sir! Hats off! You just gave me the confidence in wanting to buy my first rotary & orbital polishers & give it a try on my corolla's hood. Can you suggest which cutting / polishing compound I need to purchase as a beginner?
I would start with our line up, specifically the Gold Standard Polish: diydetail.com/collections/buffing-paint-correction/products/gold-standard-polish?variant=42335784403102
I liked the video and thanks for sharing. However, can you do a follow-up video that shows how to deal with different contours of the car? Especially how to use the pad around those areas? Merry Christmas (2023) and wish you the best in 2024. 😊🎉🎉🎉
great video with tons of info. so if I have light swirls then I should start with the foam waffle pad right? the wool pad is more for heavy swirls or marring if I understood correctly. can't wait for my gold standard and pads to arrive!
If I currently have some different brand 1 step polish that isn't sprayable can I just "brush" or drag the tip of the oppening over the pad simulating the quantity of the sprayer in order to avoid the 3-4 dropplets?
Greetings to DIY Detail Team, I know the answer should be yes, but can we use your spray polish with the red jeweling pad for maximum jeweling effect / finish on a white paint substrate which is ready for ceramic coating but want to apply the jeweling process to the paint.
That’s a clear explanation I’ve been looking for with respect to micro-marring and using a rotary to clean that up. I imagine this is double so for black paint. Also amazing you used speed 1 for finishing. Is speed 2-4 too much? What are your thoughts on using a generic Amazon rotary from China? Or do you recommend only a high end Flex brand?
Hey Yvan, so I recently ceramic coated my car (after doing all the steps required prior, and I did use your DIY standard polish as a 1 step correction, and it made my car shine great and fixed all the swirls as a paint enhancement) so anyways a local detailer in my area asked me if my car was coated and I told him it was he could tell by looking at it, (btw I used Avalon King ix) so anyways he told me that you should never do a 1 step correction and that you always need to compound in order to get Virgin clear coat ceramic coat ready paint. Ofc this is just one persons opinion but what do you think about that ?
Always great seeing your work in action. I will add a rotary to my arsenal soon enough. I've been using various compounds, but like to finish with Car Pro essence before coating, because of the si02 properties and finish. Will diy add a jeweling polish? Or, should the gold standard be enough? I always aim for gloss enhancement
Great videos. I have never polished a car but I'm going to buy some DIY products and give it a try. I assume you would do the whole car with the wool pad, then move to the yellow polish pad. Do you need to wipe with a microfibre towel between the two passes? How do you clean the pads without your special pad washer? Thanks
Yes, one than the other. No need to wipe between. Here’s a video showing how to clean the pad . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-brJAlrMPYu0.html
Hey Yvan! After the wipe with the Rinseless dampened towel, can you spray some Ceramic Gloss to add protection and then wipe with the dry towel or are you better off wiping off the polishing residue, drying and then Ceramic Gloss on the dried surface?
What's the recommended speed setting on the da with the wool? Btw love your videos. Always inspired to get in the garage and get to work after seeing your lessons!
Thank you Yvan, great tutorial as always. I have a bonnet style 10" DA polisher that comes with a flat foam bonnet and a couple microfiber bonnets. It still runs fine even though it's about 10 years old so I'm hesitant about abandoning it. Can I still use it following the same principles from this video (50% overlap, two towel method, etc.)? Or should I bite the bullet and maybe get a 5" random orbital palm sander? I only detail my own car so I'm trying not to spend unless it is absolutely necessary.
Thanks again Yvan. Just wondering what you would than use if detailing peoples cars as the next step and they don't want ceramic coating. Wax or a spray on wipe off ceramic coating or something else. Thanks ❤️
After installing the 8 year ceramic coating, what do you recommend if there is bird droppings or bug guts that accumulate during the curing time before it is able to be washed? Would you let it go until the cure completes and then wash it or would you spot treat it with the rinseless wash for example?
You just used a one polisher and tow different pads others used tow polisher for tow pads like step 1 and step 2 so can use one step like 3in1 on tow different pads to get same results as u did or is that just work with gold standards standards Thank u so much for all the information u gave to us🌹
sorry i'm not sure the question exactly. Gold Standard Polish is pad dependent, so you can just swap pads for different levels of cut....wool cutting pad for most defect removal (sometimes finishes down great, especially on hard paint you often don't need to swap to a foam pad after), gold waffle pad for medium cut (and great shine, so great for 1 step polishing) and the rotary jeweling pad has very little cut but gives you maximum gloss.
Hello Yvan, this is a great educational video. I have a few of questions regarding polishing. 1) is the Gold Standard polish safe to use on high gloss black rims (e.g. Newer Dodge Challenger Blacktop edition rims)? 2) if yes what application method you use to remove scratches? 3) On a different note, can the damped towel be dampened with Rinseless or should it just be water? I look forward to your responses. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
Also what about using a fine finishing pad with gold standard? Any gloss enhancement vs using just the waffle pad? Or is the waffle pad engineered as a one size fits all solution?
I think the system is great but as a DIYer spending 140 dollars on the pad cleaning system doesnt make much sense. I happen to have a bunch of grit guards and i use them to abrade the surface a bit in a tray of ONR. I then dip in ONR again and run the machine to leave a damp pad. Ill be buying DIY rinseless once these 32oz of ONR are gone! At 256/1 a 32oz bottle of ONR lasts a long time for me!
Hi great video, I have the G9 DA and Bauer rotary that I’ve just bought and never used but I like your method in this video of using the Da for cutting and Rotary for polishing, do you advise a waffle pad for cutting and finishing/polishing? Do I use gold standard for both? Do I change the pad or use the same pad for the entire vehicle? I don’t have the budget to buy the pad cleaner that you have what do you recommend or advise for cleaning/using the pad without the one you have? Sorry for all the questions as a newbie your videos are helpful but can still be a bit overwhelming for myself to start out thank you for any help you can provide
The Gold Standard Polishing System Waffle Pad will work great for both machines and give nice results. To clean the pad, simply dunk it in your Rinseless wash, squeeze it out a few times, then spin dry on your machine. Thanks for the questions, that’s why we are here.
@@diydetailofficial thank you so much I appreciate it, lastly would 1 pad for cutting and 1 pad for finishing be fine? I know others I’ve seen change 2-3 pads for cutting and 2-3 pads for finishing?
Are these pads okay to use with a drill? I will be working on some soft black Toyota paint that has some.med.to.deep scratches as well as some swirl marks , marring etc..I also want to polish or give the car a NICE "Glossy finish" at end after the corrections have been made. So, if you could please let me know which of your pads , or pads in general I.should use for.both correction and finish, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Quick question. For the diy person that only wants to polish his / her car and doesn’t have the need for a pad wash bucket, what is your suggestion for priming the pads since there isn’t water and speed of the DA to assist.
Hey Yvan, how many passes should I do if I'm just trying to remove a sealant without cutting into the clear coat? Using a DA with the gold standard polish and waffle pad.
Either my sprayer is not working right on my gold standard bottle or im not pulling the trigger with enough conviction, because mine doesnt mist at all. I think i used too much product on my foam pad today
Hello, I am having difficulties getting the polish to spray (using Telco trigger spray head). I’ve primed it but it doesn’t come out. When I use the “black” generic spray it comes out but like a jet not a mist . Is it ok to put the bottle in Bain Marie to warm it and reduce density/increase flowability? 🙏🏻
No need to warm it. You can adjust the tip, but also you need to pull the trigger like you’re angry at it, meaning hard and fast. FYI our black triggers are Tolco.
Is your yellow waffle pad somewhere in between or closer to the LC blue and LC orange CCS pads for cut and finish? Is the Red Jeweling pad softer than the LC black CCS pad? Thanks!
@@diydetailofficial I knew the yellow pad finished better than the orange just from the vehicle I've done with it but didn't know it had more cut then the blue pad. No wonder it's my favourite one step pad I've used to date! Thanks again. Much appreciated!
Hi guys a quick question for you? I have a one year old car that I applied a ceramic coating on it as soon that it arrived home. Now I don't like the gloss on it so I want to polish it. Can I use the yellow pad and than the red one for maximum gloss? And if understand right I wil have to recoat it after polishing? Thanks
@@abdullah79195 a few possibilities, dirty pad, too soft of a pad, paint has been polished too much. Please post pictures and a longer description in our Facebook group, we will be able to assist you there. facebook.com/groups/Detailingfordummies/?ref=share_group_link
Ok, had it in my cart just incase you said you love it, lol Delete… saving more than $400 now Thank you for this &&& everything else you guys are the best!
Hi, polish worked brilliantly - just DA and yellow pad. I bought the Polish from the UK and I’m pretty sure they supplied it with a cheap trigger because it just wouldn’t spray despite my techniques when pulling the trigger. Can you remind me of the appropriate trigger to use ?
@@diydetailofficial hallo, can I dilute any compound to spray form? If yes, can I use destilated water, and whats the ratio compound/"water" (2/1..?) -Something like sonax cutmax and similiar.. in spray form. (This G.Standard polish looks like DodoJuice lime prime plus 🤔)
