The only way ND joins a conference is not having a shot at the playoffs due too many conference teams getting automatic qualifiers. Money will never be an issue. When ND hand is finally forced, I hope they join the B10. Go Irish! ☘☘🍀🍀

Money has always been the issue for Notre Dame. When they were very good they could make considerably more outside a Conference. Well those days are over the Big 10 and SEC teams will be making considerably more than Notre Dame.
@brianjirish
@brianjirish 3 месяца назад
@whuszarik4173 Ill clarify what I meant to say about money. ND makes more than enough money to sustain their independency. But If smaller programs start to make more than like $20-30 million more than ND then yes, that'll be a problem for ND. Paying and keeping good coaches now and in the future is gonna cost some big money. Especially with coaches dealing with transfers and NIL deals. I mean it only took like 16 teams in a conference (32 total) to finally start making ND sweat. Eventually any team is gonna fold. Just impressive that ND has held out for this long.

@matthewhuszarik4173 by what metric are you gaging the "more money" being made? When playoff game money or bowl money is paid out, guess who doesn't have to split it with 12-16 other programs?

@@matthewhuszarik4173 Yes, but ND does not have a money issue with 9 billion in endowments. ND to the B1G makes too much sense. Geographically, culturally, and rivalries galore. Most of their major rivals are in the B1G: Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Northwestern, Purdue, Nebraska, and USC…. The four power conference champs and the top G5 school should be the only ones who get an auto-bid to the CFP. My hope is that the playoff eventually expands to 16 schools and it is stipulated that no more than four schools from any one conference can get in. I'm of the opinion that football should do something totally different than all the other sports. In all this talk about whether or not Notre Dame is going to join the B1G or the ACC, nobody mentions all the other schools that are in these conferences that contribute absolutely nothing, football-wise. Vanderbilt, Purdue, Kentucky, Indiana, South Carolina, Rutgers, etc. have done nothing, and bring nothing to the table. I would be all for a football only re-draft. Teams like Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, and Michigan play in their own 16-18 team league. Then you go from there to the next level, with teams like Miami, Wisconsin, and Tennessee. And so on down the line. Why should Northwestern get all the benefits that Ohio State brings in? Why should Arkansas reap the same monies that Alabama brings in?

FSU was a women's college until the 50s strictly and UF had to be forced by the legislature to play them. The only thing holding FSU back from AAU status is a medical school and they will have that up and running within the next year or so. All the other schools there are highly rated and the athletes do very well in the classroom not just on the field. The big three sports are coming along and academics isn't far behind. I think that it is almost premature to try and nail down conferences till we find out how the recent ruling essentially banning the NCAA from enforcing NIL payments plays out. My interpretation of this ruling is that it essentially legalizes buying players on the open market, which is going to eventually force teams into one of two camps: Those that are willing to raise and spend the money needed to buy the players needed to compete with the other teams that are buying players, and those that decide that they are not willing (or financially able) to compete in that financial war. I would suggest that college sports will soon split into those willing to "spend what it takes" and those that will not do NIL at all - they will have recruits sign an agreement waiving NIL rights, replaced by the scholarship paying for their education and a small "spending money" amount. This could affect conferences and change who is and is not in the major conferences, especially if the SEC / Big 10 (for example) require all to be in the "spend the money" camp. Since this would dramatically "blur" the difference between the NFL and the college teams participating in the NIL player buying wars, perhaps it might be time to pair up teams with NFL teams and have the colleges become official farm teams to the NFL teams. It would probably be wise to form some committees to study how to engage the fans, like me, who are so turned off by this nonsense that we quit paying attention to college sports altogether.

The ruling basically stripped the ncaa from governing college football. The P2 will soon break away from the toothless ncaa and form their own governing body. The P2 will expand to the necessary amount of teams that creates the largest market share. The ruling does create a bidding war, however unlimited amounts of money does not guarantee champions. See tamu, Texas, and Oregon. Culture and coaching will still have a bearing on outcomes.

The title states 'DETAILS SURFACE'. What details are in this video that already haven't been expounded upon? Notre Dame is private. Their NBC contracts have never been made public. There was a press release last fall that mentioned that ND and NBC had come to an agreement on the TV contract extension. Terms were not disclosed as usual...ND is a private institution. ND knew that they would never be afforded a 'bye' in the college football playoff. This is old news and was known to everybody better than a year ago. In fact, ND was at the negotiating table and agreed that they would never have a first-round bye. ND is contractually obligated to join the ACC in football should they so desire (or be required) to join a conference. As long as the ACC is intact, ND will stay with the ACC. The only way that ND joins a conference in the immediate future is if the ACC implodes, the revenue disparity becomes too much to ignore, a path to the playoffs is denied, and if they don't have a place for their Olympic sports to compete. This whole video is nothing new and is just click-bait.

The facts I stated are true and have been available to all for some time. Nothing new here. I do agree with you that if the ACC falls apart, ND will most likely join the BIG. Personally, I don't see ND buying their way out of the ACC contract like FSU is attempting to do. Like all schools, (athletic departments), money is a concern, but it is not currently the over-riding factor for ND. ND's previous NBC contract earned them less than had they been a full ACC member. I forget the numbers, but at the end of the current NBC contract, ND will be making about $25 million per year plus the additional proceeds from the ACC Network, so they weren't even grossing as much as full ACC members.@@CFBAddiction

The random number for payouts is probably based on playing B1G teams. NBC wants ND to play more B1G games because ratings are better than ACC teams. As for the 12 team playoffs, the ND AD was part of the group deciding the format and was on board with not getting a top 4 bid. If ND does join the B1G, the payout per team will be so large I could see them stealing SEC teams like Texas and Texas A&M who are both AAU members.

It would make no sense for Michigan to oppose it. And even if they did, they are 1 team. Several Big 10 teams want ND in the league. Plus the League itself wanted them. If ND wanted in it would have been a done deal. ND wanted a Part time deal like the ACC was offering and the Big 10 said Hell No. so they ran to the ACC. It was REPORTED all over the news. It is inaccurate to state ND is “not at the table” as Jack S was part of the group that set the 12 team playoff model. In that model ND traded away a bye possibility for the ability to have a home playoff game and get to the finals playing the same number of games (16) as anyone else. Finally, independence has nothing to do with arrogance. There have been many independents throughout NCAA history, and ND was rejected 3 times in trying to join the Big 10 due to fear and anti-catholic sentiment from Michigan AD. A global brand enables it, they play a top 20 schedule difficulty every year, and have $ due to success. However, in an expanded CFP format it may make sense for ND to join the Big 10 after all…as long as they aren’t blocked again.

With the two Super Conferences, (possibly a 3rd or 4th out of other schools' necessities) Notre Dame has to join. And the BIG makes the most sense. Otherwise they will start to be irrelevant as an independent as it will be hard to make the playoffs that way. On a side note, the NCAA is a joke and never underestimate their ability to do something self centered and stupid.

If the B1G and SEC move to 10 conference games, every team will want two home out-of-conference games (7 total). Notre Dame could keep USC, and USC would need to accept only six home games in the alternate years. How many schools would accept six home games to give Notre Dame a home game? Notre Dame would be cut out of B1G and SEC games, and Notre Dame would be playing Stanford, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Boston College instead of Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, or Texas. Notre Dame would no longer play a 'tough' schedule. Recruits wouldn't be excited to play an away game in Ames, IA. The goal is survival with the demographic cliff. There are not enough students to maintain the number of colleges in the US. This expansion is not driven by TV money. The drive is to maintain student populations. The TV money improves Universities' Marketing for students and research dollars. Good Luck to every school and every fan base. It will be an interesting few decades.

This is one of the many problems right here! We have way too many ignorant people, who don't know anything about Notre Dame, running their mouths and repeating a bunch of false narratives. Money has never been an issue with ND. That is the reason ND can remain independent and will continue to remain independent because they are one of the only teams that can do it and survive because they are such a big national name brand. They are a huge draw and have their own independent national TV contract and make big money. Other schools, even big ones like Texas have tired it and failed, that is why teams join conferences. ND is it's own unique animal, like it, or not. Notre Dame does not need to join a conference and values their independence more than anything and will only join a conference, if they cannot make the playoffs for some bizarre reason, which shouldn't happen anytime soon. I don't know why people want to keep bringing this up over and over and over again, when it has already been said and debunked many times, right out of the mouth of ND's head people, including the coach and head athletic director Jack Swarbrick, who happens to also be on the college football playoff committee. Jack, his staff, form top to bottom are all in agreement, that they couldn't be more happier with their independence right now and have said many times, that remaining independent means more to them now, then ever. So all these ignorant, false narratives need to just stop and be put away because it is just false, ignorant, lazy, wrong and annoying!

Notre Dame fan. I don't care if they stay independent or not. Its not important. But I think they do have a pretty good situation with their TV deal, and not needing to share that with Northwestern, Maryland, etc.. But I do think they are reaching the point where they need to give strong consideration to joining. I don't think the playoff system will leave them "out" if they are deserving. Unless the Big 10 and SEC decide to flip the board over and say their two conference champs are playing each other for the national title, and build playoffs within their conferences (semi finals). If most all of the high profile programs join those two conferences, they will have the clout to do that, and if they can why wouldn't they? Anyway, my prediction is that ND will join the Big 10 in 2026, same timing as this current playoff model expiring. I also think there will be several other schools on the move the same time, and it probably takes that long for FSU to actually break out of the ACC, officially. Things may be announced sooner, but I think this is when the next big shuffle occurs. If ND happens to hold out then, they might actually lose their opportunity. But I also think the big 2 conferences should want any school that has a real ligament chance to challenge their claim to hold the path to the national title. If ND stays out, and goes undefeated. Similar for FSU or Clemson. It will tarnish the SEC and Big 10 power to claim that their champion is the true champion, and they are then unsuccessful in their quest to usurp power from the NCAA.

The main concern that would push ND into a conference is if for some reason, they no longer have a seat at the table and they can't make the playoffs, they'll join. However, as long as the conferences allow ND to be involved in negotiations, they will remain independent. Don't have the player, hate the game....

Notre Dame hasn't been a true independent since the ACC deal. They effectively play a conference schedule every year with the 5 ACC games, USC, Stanford, and Navy. Part of the reason they had to cut that deal with the ACC is it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to put together a decent schedule. They were playing an insanely front loaded schedule and then a bunch of G5 teams aside from USC.

Now with Oregon, USC, Washington, and potentially FSU/Miami/Clemson, I feel like ND has lost a lot of luster. ND joining the B1G is a great story and good for branding.
