Wow not gonna lie would love to experience "Cuno detective" first hand but like... Can't bring myself to getting Kim to the hospital :( he is way too precious...
It was a mistake! I felt like restarting because I thought Kim actually dies when he gets shot and felt so bad. But then I saw the game just kept going and decided to go with it, I'm glad that I did!
@@saooran7364 NO! Oh, that would be awful! He could take a bullet for Harry and be sent to the hospital tho...(I think) Such a pure man ; - ; that's why the whole fandom loves him
Im actually Writeing a book on an idea like that, Its more of Cuno joining Kim and Tequilla, as kinda a weird family, was turning Cuno into a more billey the kid type. Also expanding on the pale Theme.
Cuno's final speech defending Harry must be one of the funniest, well-crafted dialogues of the game. I got my first ending with Kim, but had I teamed up with Cuno, I would have loved it regardless. Cuno is definitely one of the characters that grew on me as I kept playing and I would have liked a party with Kim and Cuno, solving crimes and playing Suzerainity together haha
Honestly it warms my heart, there's something so absolutely touching about it, of all the people in the world, unmitigated, Cuno see's Harry's worth, and doesn't put up with any of the shit they're throwing at him.
It's definitely the closest I got to crying playing this game, when he says he'll stop saying slurs if he can become a detective, its hits harder than it honestly should.
It's a shame you need to get Kim injured for this to happen. Because honestly, imo having Cuno move to Precinct 41 might just be the best thing that came out of this case.
Yeah, it would've been nice to have a completely good ending. In my literary analysis video I propose that this ending, 'the Cuno ending', is actually better than the ending with Kim, from a similar view to your comment. I think there are probably a lot of fans who don't know this ending with Cuno even exists, because I sure didn't on my second playthrough!
@@levitybooks3952 I remember reading somewhere that even in the ending with Kim there's the implication that Cuno will eventually end up in Precinct 41 anyway, though I'm not sure.
I mean, Kim is still alive. You don't get the evidence of the Phasmid, but you don't need to. The point is it helps Harry, or Raphael, come to terms with his life and how he relates to the nature of the world. As long as you don't get thrown out of the force, its a win either way.
@@levitybooks3952 Depends on the scale you look at it from. Small scale, yes. Definitely. Large scale? It"s probably the ending where you go with the Coalition about the Pale in the church. (It's spreading and the study of it is crucial) But the phasmid also passes really important information about it. One idea is that Kim might've dropped his camera and Cuno looted it...or maybe Harry was carrying it as a Klepto. But that's not enough fun. So I'd say... Logic [Godly: Success] Kim survives to take the photo. Cuno sees the photo and Harry tells him about the case. (Because of course he does) Cuno follows the same path, more or less, deciding he might want to join the RCM. Harry shows photo to Lenna and Morel. They become famous- as does he by association. Cuno sees the fame, settles on his choice to be a cop. (Number on the Hawthorn tree) Harry tells the Coalition about the 2mm hole in reality when he has the spotlight on him. RCM investigates and ends drug smuggling The Ultra rich light bending guy in the shipping container fights Evrarte in a deathmatch narrated by Leo to the Union over who gets to have "Living in container" rights. The club generates enough positive energy that it actually closes the 2mm hole while being studied. Now the Coalition has Soona's info and a way to "reverse" the pale. Oh, and Harry gets clean, remembers Dora, internalizes and integrates/heals. So, in the end- Cuno still becomes a cop, Kim takes a photo of the bug, Lena and Morel get famous, Harry gets the coalition with the 2mm hole, now, finally having a purpose larger than himself, is able to begin to -truly- move on from Dora. The Coalition learns the only way to fight the pale is with HARDCORE ANODIC DANCE MUSIC SKIBADEE SKIBADANGER! I AM THE REARRANGER! HARDCORE TO THE MAX! Thus, Egghead's strange influence and the raver's philosphy proves to ultimately be closer to the truth- To fight the pale and the end the problems you need something HARDCORE. (from the spine, as noted by Noid...Which is also related to Shivers...who gave the major message through them.)
Cuno is like the only person in the game addressing the fact that the Hardie boys willingly risked getting gunned down by saying to the world they lynched a krenel guy. Harry had plenty of good reasons to keep them in their shit, especially after they showed no will to fix things with the mercs.
Honestly id like to hope no mater what the canonical ending of the game Cuno leaves with Harry, he's a good kid, and for all his faults Harry's good with him, be best for both of them to stay together.
Agreed, Cuno gives Harry a reason to live, in Kim's ending it doesn't feel like Harry is motivated to go back to the force or find love again. In looking after Cuno Harry can at least be better than Cuno's Dad and therefore useful!
They released an artwork some months ago for the anniversary release of the Directors Cut where is shown both Cuno and Kim joined Harry after the case in the prescint, hopefully seeing how is implied good endings are canon he does leave with Harry/gets a better life
This was the most cathartic shit. I remember I hated Cuno a lot at the start, so seeing him stand up for me at the end was unexpected, funny, heartwarming, and cool as shit, man.
I got this on my first playthrough and it was absolutely heart warming when you can vouch for him to enroll in the RCM (and most likely, adopt him). As much as I despaired getting Kim shot because of me (dice roll betrayed me, as they do), I was sort of glad that Kim was at least alive and in the hospital, able to talk, safe and away from any danger. But having Cuno, The Cuno, himself come into my room and actually tried to help you, get you up to date and sorted out, was a very welcomed surprise.
I think it is the better ending personally having played both, but if Kim had gotten shot on my first playthrough I probably would've just hard reset the game out of shame lol
@@levitybooks3952 Exactly what I did. Had like 87% to succeed and failed, so I hard loaded to save Kim. Now I am tempted to think what would happen if I kept at it.
If you drink a shot every time cuno says shit in the exchange with precinct 41 you can probably speedrun the memory loss harry has at the beginning of the game
On my 1st playthrough I failed every check at the mercenary tribunal. I thought it was the game's way of telling me "nothing you can say or do will matter". When I got the Cuno ending, I could not be more happy and thought "at least I changed this kid's life and Kim is alive". Then I figured out why I failed every check. Precarious world, man. Played again, got every successful check and saved Kim and most of the Hardies. And you know what? Despite saving my homie Kim and taking a photo of the Phasmid, the Cuno ending felt so much better for me...
same thing happened to me. got double 1s on both the checks talking to the merc, failed the dodge check and almost failed warning kim. i thought it was the game telling me "you're a good cop with reasonable points, but you can't reason with three mourning psychopaths armed to the teeth. the only place you can pull through is your camaraderie with kim."
I almost kind of wonder if there were bigger plans for Cuno as a party member at one point in the writing process. He's not the first guy I'd pick for a partner on the island investigation if Kim wasn't available, but if he'd been a more active presence in the story instead of hanging around the tree for most of it... After all, we know for sure Lena almost was a third party member. There's an old devblog post talking about her having her role cut down due to level design issues. Would he have been the fourth?
I never heard about this, that's really interesting! One of the first things I did on my first playthrough was try to recruit her on my mission, I think even before I talked to Kim! I would like a game with that varied a crew of companion investigators!
That's why then she was saying that Martinaise isn't very wheelchair accessible. It's also a jab as to why she won't join you from game dev standpoint.
Cuno is one of my favorite characters. Despite almost guaranteed probability, I failed this check during the last stand down. And thank God I did! Most of my friends replayed this moment after failing or succeeded. Cuno became one of my favorite characters. I don't mind not having the proof of existence of an extremely rare species. What makes me happy is that Harry finally becomes a source of inspiration. I honestly thing that Harry needs somebody to care about. And Cuno might become such a person.
Cuno has that natural detective in him! That’s really cool to see. Of course has has to fill the same void as Kim but he does a great job! I love how at the end cuno is defending you because you actually did something and are kinda cool to him
The moment at the end, when his voice becomes unusually quiet and docile, promising he won't swear... it brings a tear to my eye. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand and agree that his overconfidence is right for him, he obviously has to be strong to handle his situation in life. I interpret the change as him being hopeful of having a little more safety in his life, with this new job. It's like he can finally relax.
My head cannon is that after Cuno joined the RCM. He, Kim, and Harry went on to solve many more crimes and bring about a lot of positive change in the city through their work. Harry moved on from his wife and cuno managed to clean up from drugs.
I had Kim with me on this and had no idea you could recruit Cuno, and all I can say is that the thought of Cuno watching me while I had The Dream terrifies me
Blood Meridian is a pretty smart reference from the Cuno. Maybe his dad had a copy of the book, or he heard the term once in school (something to do with the setting sun, but the book is pretty violent and respected, so his dad might have a copy.)
It's the same actor in both versions, Dot Major. They just re-recorded his old lines to match the new direction and audio quality. (Edit: I was wrong, there's a new actor, the credits listed them both.)
the game has an ever-growing abyss of wild information that destroys any matter and makes men go mad,and it exists because all new creative thought that anybody has comes from the actual future, and the pale itself is there to counteract the ideas that are already there but shouldn't exist yet. i think gasoline having a 50+ year shelf life is fine
Yeah, in Detective Cuno 1 it shows that when you leave the Whirling In Rags after the Tribunal he makes his own way to the island. So there are no other lines outside of these videos when Cuno is your partner. Before the Tribunal he has new voice acting though, I made a few clips of some of it.
Good point, it's actually odd that we never get her opinion on it. The game before the tribunal has Cuno in an almost hostage situation with Cunoesse, so it's strange that afterwards he just decides to leave without any complications. He never mentions Cunoesse after The Tribunal.
@@williamtremblay1002 yes. He says he was ending thr things with C while the shooting happening. Maybe thats why he a leaves without thinking. I just finished my first play through and i got the ending with cuno.
Cuno talks about breaking up with Cunoesse after the tribunal, being impressed with Harry and feeling like he had to fill Kim's shoes. He even remarks that he relates to Harry's "bitch dreams" and Esprit de Corps indicates that he's been having wild dreams about Cunoesse himself, which I thought was funny. During the final meeting with your task force Cuno will get visibly afraid if it's suggested he'll be left behind by the RCM, because in his mind he's abandoned his old life with the goal of getting on the side of the pigs, and he's afraid of what Cunoesse might do to him for his betrayal. Basically: yes, it's safe to say that Cunoesse thinks this is lame.
the fact that very few people have seen this screams save scamming lol. It is actually the normal ending for any int/psy build. Pretty high chance you dont make the roll for Kim
Feels like most of the people commenting knew ahead of time what was going to happen at the tribunal. Seems weird to deliberately spoil a game like Disco Elysium with a walk through... Can understand a little at the start but once you've gotten going makes no sense to me to not want the surprise
