The City of Detroit agreed to pay $2 million to settle a lawsuit filed against Sgt. Stephen Kue, a troubled officer who amassed an astonishing history of misconduct but was seldom disciplined.
Old management rule: never hire someone smarter than you. Those at the top now were once hired by someone that followed that (yeaaars old) golden rule so it'll never get better.
Yes,, Police Qualified Immunity has been abolished ! If you have a video recording to prove your case. It has been known that all Police Officers lie. Police Officers can be trusted ! It use to be an honor to be a Police Officer, Today it's an embarrassment. Many ( probably Most ) police officers have brought shame and disgrace to The Badge !
It's not just qualified immunity it's the fact that even when they get sued personally the taxpayers through the municipality pay the settlements you need to stop and damnifying the officers these officers didn't have qualified immunity and these suits
Maybe not if your employer was not paying it, but the taxpayers are paying instead. And your employer is still keeping on 127 others just as much a problem.
The ACLU persisted in court action to make NYPD publicly post on the Internet complaints against officers. BUT NYPD only posts those complaints found "guilty" (I'm sure that's not the term NYPD would use, but it makes the point.) That's not what ACLU was working for. So now their back in the courts, trying to get ALL complaints posted.
Promoted to sargent, who made that decision? They should be held accoutable. All these people are paid over $100k a year + benefits with our tax dollars. Hold them accountable!!
100% correct. We the People's taxes pay for everything- Their training, weapons, company cars, clothing, salaries, overtime, insurances, re-training, pensions, unions, ammunition, medical discharges of ptsd after THEY delete someone, we literally pay their homes, food, clothing, kids, cars, re-retraining, promotions,, everything...
They promoted him because to get more federal funding the higher ups need more people under them. Its not about the work that needs to be done. The Federal Government gives you more money the larger your department is, so keep adding idiots and you get more salary. We can fix this by contacting your representatives. Tell them to put minimum standards requirements on police funding.
If this doesn't scare the ever-loving sh!t out of every citizen in Detroit, nothing ever will. Remember, just because he's on desk duty doesn't mean he's not carrying a gun and doesn't have arrest powers when traveling to and from work. The people of Detroit need to pressure the mayor to fix this.
It should scare the shit out of anybody that lives anywhere. If it can happen in a city with the population of Detroit it can happen in my Tiny Town at any Tiny Town across the country
This is where the governor or the Justice Dept. need to come in, dismiss the city council, fire police chief, and ANY LEO that has more than 2 complaints against them in the last 5 years. The prosecutor there needs to be removed and banned from being a lawyer. Its nothing but a RICOH criminal gang.
#1 There's a union. #2 The police are working to enforce authoritarian policies. The Dimocrat governor and/or Attorney General will do nothing to stop this.
It is always the same. Cops should have to carry their own liability insurance. Departments should have to try lawsuit out of their budgets. The tax payers should not be paying for cops that lie and departments that cover for them.
@@jeffkaczmarek3577 Your comment has nothing to do with what I said. If the taxpayers were unhappy, they would elect politicians that allow an officer This bad to remain on the force be promoted to sergeant.
@@neilkurzman4907 The majority of citizens never wanted, needed or asked for the so-called services the leeches of LE claim to provide. If you don't belive me, we could test it really easy. Simply make the taxes that fund the paychecks, lawsuit payouts, paid suspensions and pensions of these parasties optional and we'll see just how many stations those socialist sponges can keep open when it's only the Karen's and bootlickers paying the bills.
@@neilkurzman4907 The majority of citizens have no need for police. If you don't belive me, we can test it really easy. I can do a simple search on RU-vid and find daily videos of police violating the constitution. Ask the chief simple questions about the bill of rights and watch them struggle to answer. Ask the to name one of the five tenants of the first amendment. It's not their money, it's the taxpayer's who pay.
Officers call that a ham sandwich. It is a gun that you keep somewhere to pick up trace evidence, like a pair of jeans pocket, then you keep it in a bag so you can keep it in your police cruiser and it won't pick up evidence of the police cruiser.
That cop knows where the bodies are buried, who’s on the take, who’s stealing the dope from the evidence locker, then selling said dope to other drug dealers, who’s running the towing scams, ect ect. See someone get a envelope full of cash accidentally and boom …you get a promotion…you and you and you get a promotion
So sounds like this is usual behavior for Kue & many other “officers.” Kue definitely has no business being in law enforcement let alone getting a promotion!! Get your house in order Detroit. These officers should be sued individually as well as all those that enable them. Tax payer money should not be funding their unlawful, bad behavior. Take out the trash that hides behind a badge
That's just 85 of the complaints that were able to be processed, not to mention the people who don't want to be retaliated against by filing complaints...rule of thumb, there would be at least 5 times as many complaints. Why the department psychologist hasn't intervened is criminal.
"a direct reflection of what was going on inside the department" ABSOLUTELY. if the department had a shred of decency, or just wanted to protect the tax payers, it would not continue to employ this cop. and any city that hires a cop with even 1/10 of the bad history this cop has should face a lawsuit for whatever amount the entire cities annual budget that year was. can't do it right, should not be doing it all.
And the final nail in Detroit PD's coffin "we investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing, justified even." HA HA. It's like spitting in the face of everyone who has been abused by Kue and his fellow bluelinegang!
" There is not One single police officer in America that I am not afraid of and not one that I would trust to tell the truth or obey the laws they are sworn to uphold. I do not believe they protect me in any way." - Henry Rollins
The city and the police department are doing what they do best in cases like this...cover for their own, they will delay doing anything to protect the officer until he reaches retirement eligibility or until he can get more time in so he can get a bigger retirement, then they'll tip him off just before they're forced to do something to give him a chance to put in for his retirement because once the paperwork is in, it's a done deal and it can't be stopped.
The supreme turd court said that they have no obligation to help any of us. Hell, they’re the turds who gave them qualified immunity for no reason at all
SCOTUS has said time and again it is not their job to protect YOU!! DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services, 489 U.S. 189 (1989), the U.S. Supreme Court held that the only duties of care required by the Constitution are those extended to individuals who are restrained by the government and therefore unable to protect themselves. This includes prisoners and involuntarily committed mental patients. PROTECT YOURSELF.. COPS ARE NOT THERE TO PREVENT BUT INVESTIGATE
Dear reader, I ask you: would YOU still have YOUR job if you had 85 known complaints, and had from just one of your many blunders, cost your company 2 million dollars?
When the department reviews the actions of an officer and deem them justified, but a jury of that officer's peers disagree to the point of a $2 million award, it would appear that the standards within the department don't comport with the standards set by the people they are paid to serve. If any of _us_ did something that cost the city $2M, we'd be prosecuted, not sued, and we'd _never_ be in a position to work for the city.
If my son thinks he’ll ever be a cop I will disown him. Not in this day. The only reason anyone would want to at this point is to harass and beat others. It’s not rewarding, it’s a mark of shame. No one in their right mind trusts law enforcement. Don’t take my word for it, ask a lawyer. They all say the same thing and for good reason. We need police but we don’t need this type of policing. Reform!
This case should go the federal court, that’s where these “suspected” bad cops will actually face some type of discipline. Local courts go easy on them, too many loop holes. Departments checking themselves, is never a good thing. No one will ever tell you their house is dirty.
As long as cops are allowed to investigate themselves, and as long as there is the judge-made doctrine of qualified immunity, these evils will continue.
85 complaints? really gotta question how many is too many? and all the lawsuits, why does this department even have insurance? if i lived around there, i'd go looking for some lawsuits. F $2M, i'd get a few more zeroes just based on his history. my case would be 90% him being a known bad apple and 10% he did me wrong too.
It must be nice to have an unlimited supply of taxpayer money to solve your employee misconduct. Remember this next time you wonder where your taxes are going and why your streets go unrepaired, and why there is no money for social services. These jackasses are wasting all your money.
No, I think they should start taking settlements from your house. You should be forced to pay them. If the citizens are upset about what they have to pay, then they should change their leadership. The ones who are firing these officers. I don’t know if you realize it in the United States you can’t take other peoples money to pay for somebody else’s crime that’s not the way it works But if you wanted to work that way, if you screw up at work, I guess they can take your retirement too. And if you don’t have any, I guess I’ll have to come after your Social Security.
This guys still on the payroll! Unbelievable! What other job would you be able to be responsible for these lawsuits and behavior and not be fired! They clearly planted the gun! The guys a documented liar! How can anything he says in court be relied upon! They made him a Sergeant! Talk about being toned deaf!
The fact they say he didn't do anything wrong is revealed by the facts this cop is not on the street and the city paid out 2 million dollars why because union would get the cop reinstated.
To all auditors: Keep fighting the good fight! Until these public servants realize integrity and accountability are values not to be feared, YOU ARE NEEDED! Thank you for your service.
being a former peace officer myself.. i cant tell you there are many officers PAID fulltime salary to sit at home.. WHY, cause they are too much trouble at work and cannot fire them.. TRUE STORY
It's just like many gang members, you back your brother no matter what. This gang is no different except for the fact that police gang members are protected by law and the DA. And someone else pays for their mistakes.
Once the public truly figures out why they do not have the balls to fire their own they may take steps to remove the ability for those agencies to do their own hiring and firing and we might start to have some change. The one thing that scares police officers the most is another police officer off of the reservation and after them, look at the story of the constable in Texas that went on a Rampage, look at the story of Officer Donner that went on a rampage against LAPD and how scared and fearful all of those LE officers were. Citizens are going to have to insist on citizens review committees that have the power to hire and fire police officers if you take the ability away from the agencies to hire and fire and require they buy their own Indemnity insurance this problem with law enforcement around the country will start to change overnight
AWESOME tip to check out the Dormer incident, thank you!! The most telling proof (to me) that LAPD cops are dirty, trigger-happy pieces of $hit, and Dormer was probably telling the truth, was the information that 3 random citizens, who looked Nothing like Dormer (2 Hispanic females, and 1 white male), driving vehicles that didn't match Dormer's, were Shot, without warning by LAPD officers. Sorry LA taxpayers, there went another SIX MILLION dollars of your money to pay off these innocent victims of this blue line gang.
As long as tax payers foot the bill this will never change. That is not accountability, that is not policing, that is sheer incompetence and every officer should be ashamed to work with these types of garbage
The horrifying part is that this is NOT an isolated issue to just Detroit. We see this kind of blatant disregard for the law, our Constitutionally Protected Rights and public safety all across the US by CORRUPT PD's. Defunding is not the answer either, but ending qualified immunity and Police reform is. We've seen what happens to city's that cut Police budgets, and it ain't good!
It would be nice if the "I Back to Blue" crowd would really show their support by helping pay this settlement so all of us taxpayers are stuck paying this settlement.
I made a complaint against an officer in August of last year. I don't live in Detroit, and was just driving through when I encountered my experience with said officer. I I have recieved two notices about my complaint since then, and have since learned that their complaint process is backlogged years. Shame for the citizens who live there!!
