Hey, I just had to drop a comment and tell you how much I love watching your videos. You guys have a unique talent for delivering information in a way that's not only informative but also fun and engaging 👏
fyi - Non-residents can get the Deutschlandticket from the DB office at the train stations with cash. The online purchase won't work due to a required address verification.
How would they accept cash since it's a monthly subscription? They still need some sort of banking detail. Getting on with credit card is pretty convenient, e.g., through VBN.
That would not work to my knowledge as you still have to give all your details, because it is a subscription! also you can only cancel it until the 10th day of the month you purchased it in
I bought mine last week, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Not having to worry about buying ticket before the train leaves or having cash on my for the bus is so worth it. I do not commute or need to be anywhere in a hurry most of the time. I am new to Germany and a little shocked that the bus drivers do not seem to look at your pass, it seems that people just walk on and sit down.
Very useful information for me as I am not living in Germany, but in Switzerland. I truly love how concise and to the point you two always are. (and a cute couple, too).
Want to add one note: there are a small number of regional trains that are operated by DB Fernverkehr that are not covered by the Deutschland ticket as of now - these will be marked in the trip detail in DB Navigator
@@travelandliveingermany7295 I don't know them on top of my head. You would have to check in the trip detail in DB Navigator, but there aren't too many of them
As a commuter I am very happy about the 49 Euro Ticket. I will save at least 200 Euros every month. As I'm working in Stuttgart, diving to work by car for me is not really an option, so I'm highly dependent on public transportatuion.
Last summer, I traveled with the 9€ticket between many towns and cities for my 10 day stay in Germany. It was a very stressful experience with long delays and cancellations, not to mention a big accident which turned a 3 hr direct ride from cologne to Frankfurt into a 7 hour ride with 2 unexpected changes. I wasn't sure what just happened to the German punctuality. Was it the infrastructure ? Was it too many people taking advantage of the cheap tickets? Could be both. So I decided to give it another try in my visit during winter. 2 months of riding the trains between many towns and cities without the discounted tickets and the trains worked like clockwork. Just one big delay and one cancellation on the day of departure (worst day to be cancelled on!!). My guess is that when there are too many people riding the trains for example during holidays, the trains fail to stick to the schedule. So given this, I hope that the schedule is adjusted to the fact that there will be lot more people riding the public transport with cheaper tickets so as to stay punctual. 🤞. Delays and cancellations are no fun for anyone!
@@nikolavideomaker that sounds really sad. Hope they fix it. I understand it's going to take sometime to figure this out given the higher demands for public transport but I am really hoping they do what Germans are really good at !
It's disfunctional for much longer due to funding cuts for decades. The government aims to change funding now and hopefully in the long run it'll become better. The track system mind you is one of the more complex ones worldwide so it's hard to compare to other countries and how it works there really.
Thank you for the helpful information, as I am new in Germany it can help me a lot. Another thing I would like to mention in your videos is that Yvonne stares all the time Jen when she is talking to the camera. it is lovely and cute, I really like it.
One minor addition which might be interesting to know, although it does not affect the "usual" customers of the Deutschland Ticket. The Deutschland Ticket is included in the BahnCard 100 as well. Previously the BC100 could only be used in ~40 cities in Germany within a specified area. Now it can be used for every long distance connection and local transport everywhere. Of course, this comes at a higher cost. 😉
Deutschland ticket is a great initiative because I went from spending €103,40 per month to €49,00 for one train stop as there is no other means of public transport to get to work.
Just out of curiosity, does the Hamburg monthly pass include other interesting perks? If it is 67 eur, doesn't the Deutschland ticket make more sense since it allows all local travels within Hamburg at a cheaper price of 49 eur?
@@sonkerieckmann7183 Wow good to hear, that's a huge discount on the already very affordable Deutschland Ticket. Do a lot of companies provide that subsidy in Germany actually?
It's really not that difficult to buy a D-Ticket as a tourist as there are regional transport authorities like VBN that accept credit cards. I just bought mine for a 3 week trip in September coming up as we'll be using either public transit or regional trains almost daily. Even with some delays or cancellations, I'm hoping the convenience factor of never having to buy a ticket will far outweigh the occasional delayed train. I mean that happens on ICE too after all.
Yvonne, thanks a ton for your detailed vlog regarding the top prepaid SIM cards to have in Germany. I had been using ALDI TALK since April 2020 and was fed up with the data bandwidth that I used to receive for 7,99€. Moved to SIMon this month. E-Netz to D2-Netz after all.
@@hashimoto00 Depends. I generally do not like a binding contract and thus a prepaid is almost always the answer for me. Postpaid you have several options like the Drillisch brands.
I am all for the Deutschland-Ticket. Every initiative that encourages people to use public transportation is great in my opinion. But then there's me, living in a very rural area in Niedersachsen somewhere between Hamburg and Hannover. My commute to work is a 30 km trip to the north, while the regional transportation is all set up for commutes to the south. If I was able and ready to walk, run or bike the 2 km to the next train station from my home and the same distance from the train station to my office and back, the commute would add about 2 hours on my daily schedule compared to the trip by car. Now, being "green" in my heart, I would still consider this to be worthwhile - we all have to sacrifice some convenience for the sake of future generations, right? Unfortunately I have a dog. I mean, I am fortunate enough to have a supercute dog, that I can take everywhere, including my office. From what I've figured out so far, I would have to buy a ticket for kids to take it with me. Since there is no reduced Kinder-Deutschland-Ticket, unless the child gets a student reduction, I would have to pay half of the normal ticket price each time I take the dog with me. And that's it The Deutschland-Ticket is great for commuters in urban areas and its super cool for travelers with patience and time. It doesn't help reducing car traffic and emissions for those who live in the countryside at all.
Very good explanation. Thanks a lot. I will be traveling through Germany in May and I think I will buy it. So I can buy and cancel it before May 10th and continue using till the end of the month.
@@ketamin61 I wasn't able to buy the Deutschland Tickets. My cousin has a German Bank Account and even she could not buy. I think it's necessary to have an Adress in Deutschland
In the VRR the Ticket 2000 actually has four different Versions - valid at all times and personalized - valid at all times and transferable - valid from 9:00 am and personalizd - valid from 9:00 am and transferable
Most companies depending on their negotiations with the transport associations offer DJ tickets (Deutschland Job Tickets). The DJ tickets are even subsidized for public employees.
@@simplegermany I was gonna say that. And what if someone is a DJ but also gets this type of job ticket! They'll tell a friend they take the bus with a DJ ticket, and the picture in the friend's mind would have to be spectacular! 😂
Our company checked with the VRR, and they require a minimum of 30 job ticket subscriptions within the VRR (used to be 50), while we have like 10 employees in this area (and a few in VRS or other areas).
I‘m still waiting on my Chipkarte on the post. They said we’d receive it before it started this May. I ordered around the middle of April, well before the 20th.
@@JonasWaldmensch In this situation I remember a former employer. We had lots and lots of invitiations and invoices to print. The employer insisted: nobody leaves the office until the last letter is printed! (Actually, we ran out of toner cartridges later in the evening.)
Great content. One thing not mentioned is that each local transport company may have additional bonuses for their version of the Desitchland Ticket. Like KVB in Köhln has access or discounts to their bike and car share service with the subscription if you have their chip card. But with their app, it'll just be the standard subscription ticket. The Deutschland ticket can be great for tourists depending on the length of stay, but I'd hash out the math and understand caveats to it before committing to a ticket purchase. How many times will I need to use transit before it pays for itself for where I'm going and does it align with my style of trip (driving vs train vs hybrid & visiting more urban vs rural) is the first questions I'd ask.
Aww the little Mario is a precious memorabilia from across the videos! But I also like the Brandenburger Tor.. and that cute cactus looks like giving the✌sign.
Thanks so much, brilliantly put together all the pros and cons and how to's around the Deutschland-Ticket. On May 13th there will be Japan-Tag in Düsseldorf, are you considering a meet-up with some fans who might come to DUS for this beautiful event, followed by the best fireworks ever?
Right, way better fireworks than for example for the Rheinkirmes. Orchestrated in multiple acts, all following a common theme. (The downside of the Japan-Tag is its popularity, it's so crowded...)
@@Ph34rNoB33r But the Oberkassler Kirmes is also super crowded... Almost like Oktoberfest here in Munich. But here it is worse, alcoholics from all over the world come together to vomit ... sidewalks and public transportation look pretty disgusting during these times. Though I remember a very funny ad from the Rheinbahn, they had free vomit bags on their trams, trains and buses and mentioned it was "Bahnbrechender Erfolg", which is an hilarious play on words... Brechen means to vomit 🤣
@@n1vca Yeah, but in that aspect, Kirmes is similar to Carneval. A time for me to avoid public transport completely. Nothing like that for Japan-Tag (so far), it's just too many people.
One major problem is you CANNOT buy the ticket with any other country IBAN, for example an Italian IBAN. I tried buying it, but it showed me it will be available shortly for 5 days. I went to the office and they told me it would not work as I used another country IBAN.
I was living in Germany a couple of years ago and can't ask the question. It's 49 euros per month, but for which zones.Because for personal experience, i know that when you buy a monthly ticket you have choose for which zone you are going to use it.
Only the fast long distance trains are not included but all regional trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn, most regional Busses and even some ferries are everywhere in Germany included. So you can also use a Deutschland Ticket you brought in Hamburg for the S-Bahn in Munich....
I use the Dticket in the app and throughout Germany for a few months and it's a dream! Just the easiness traveling with literally everything in big cities is amazing. Suuuuuper long distances probably don't make sense, but there are some long distance regional trains that are pretty amazing and quick. I still can't believe we got this 😂
When I used the „Schönes Wochenend“-Ticket to get from my city to Salzburg/Austria, I entered a train at 6 am an left another train in Salzburg at 7pm. During this time I travelled sitting on a seat in the second class, standing in the second class, sitting in the first class (because there were too many people in the second class) and sitting on the floor of a postal service cargo car. It took me another 2 hours and a train and a taxi to get to my final destination, the wedding of a friend of mine, who happens to live in our neighbor city but wanted to marry his wife deep in the heart of Austria. So I have some experience with some of the rules of the Deutschland Ticket. Except that it was no subscription, it was cheaper, it was only valid for DB trains but you could take iirc 5 to 3 people with you on the same ticket. Which led to the situation where you could hop on a train without a ticket and ask someone if they have a free space on their ticket. And it probably often worked. That‘s afaik the reason the DB reduced the number of people on one ticket from 5 to 3. But I just found out, that is still (or again?) valid for up to 5 passengers and now can be used on any day, not just on Weekends: www.bahn.de/angebot/regio/quer-durchs-land-ticket#:~:text=Wie%20viel%20kostet%20das%20Quer,Preis%20pro%20Person%3A%2044%20Euro
I don’t get our IT here, that they cannot offset days of month from 49€ deducting price as per date of purchase so that people do not pay full price for one day as you said 😂
Thank you for the video! I wonder, I bought the ticket from MVG Fahrinfo (Munich's local transportation app), should I also add it to the DB app in order to use it in RB trains?
Not needed, they have to accept the mvg one germany wide, i for example have my d ticket on an bvg chip card and on the chipcard it does not mention that its a Deutschlandticket (they have to use an nfc reader and then the conducter can see the ticket details...
Hi! And you know if we can cross bothers with this ticket? We just moved to Dusseldorf and we saw that there a RB RE train going to the Netherlands. Wanted to thank guys for all your videos too. It helped us a lot to move from Brazil to here! Great content!
IF you consider doing a daytrip from Düsseldorf to the netherlands I would recommend taking the RE19 to Arnhem, and NOT the RE13 to Venlo. The journey will take slightly longer, BUT RE19 trains are more modern, comfortable cleaner, and most importantly, much less crowded and much more reliable as it takes less crowded rail routes. The RE13 can be quite smelly and also undercapacitated. I also think Arnhem is the nicer and more authentic city of the two so I would say its worth the extra time.
Just watch out, the RE19 gets split usually, so make sure to board the front half of the train in Düsseldorf, that should not be difficult however, just look out where the displays on the side of the train say “RE19 Arnhem Centraal“.
Why do you say it is not designed for tourists? It looks as a convenient solution. If I buy the ticket after 10th of the month and cancel it immediately, will it be valid until the end of the current month?
Top Quality Content as always 👏 QQ - Any idea whether I can switch to regional transport for 2months in between and switch to Deutschland Ticket back again?
Hmm "not replace existing tickets"? The HVV have been mailing me all sorts of things to tell me that "the change will be automatic and needs no action on my part". Will have to check what's happening there
I think the HVV is replacing tickets that are more expensive than the 49 Euro automatically... But there are other local transportation association that don't do it automatically
I got admit for winter semester 2023 one week before , should I travel 1 or 2 months early or just 15 days before which will be more beneficial and why
If you have a "job ticket" or similar anyway and now get it cheaper, it's good. If you are alone and have a lot of time to travel, it can also be worth it. But if you are a family with children aged 6 or older, it's bad, because they need their own ticket. Normally, for tickets you can take children with you for free until they are 15, so if you have 2 children and 2 adults, you really need to travel through several states every week to make the Deutschland-Ticket worth its money.
But the Germany ticket will not be attractive for everyone. Another example would be the insufficient coverage of use, because each federal state is allowed to decide for itself. Whether you can take small children, bicycles or dogs with you. You might have to pay even more. And as I said, the use of the ticket is not possible on all routes, because regional leagues also travel on tracks that are intended for European traffic and vice versa. The German railways are still negotiating with the individual people.
hello, that is good news to commuters. How about Annual ticket? Is there ticket annually to be able to discount the commuters who always use the train daily?
Your video is great! Very informative 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I am a tourist and will be staying in Germany 18-24May. (Then to Salzburg) Can I buy the 49EUR ticket on the 1May and then cancel it before 10May? So that I only pay one month subscription?
Leipzig any animal thats taking extra space has to pay extra means if u have a so called Handtaschenköter thaz fits in ur purse or on ur lap u dont pay
I brought my ticket at the BVG office, I yet haven't got the chip card? any idea how long does it take to arrive or can I get the ticket on any other app if I login? Thanks guy :)
As an American tourist coming to Germany in Sept 2023 very soon now. I purchased my D ticket on the website MMV and it was in English I was able to use my credit card. It s only on your phone, I didn't see an option to print. The bad part was I was able to add my wife in one of the screens BUT it didn't all me to purchase a D ticket for her. I really messed up here I thought 😮😢I thought I was going to be prompted to her name but it never did and I ended up buying two D tickets for me. I couldn't fix it. I felt like a dumb #$$ so be careful there. You should have two separate phones where you can initially register for your own account and probably separate e mails. It was easy to cancel they send you e mail for link to cancel if only there for a month make sure to cancel before on or before the 10th. Overall I liked this app.
Can you please explain how to enter names of family members because the Rheinbahn app lets you add the number of people without names and age. For example if a family has 4 members, all get added under the family head’s name without their names and ages. So if we buy, the head of family will have 4 passes under one name. Confusing really. 😇
Hi, I was able to purchase ticket thru rheinbahn app. Should I still transfer the ticket to a DB navigator app? or it's fine already...no need to transfer.
I'm very new to Munich. I got the Deutschland ticket. I understand that I don't need to do anything when I got on the U banh, right? but if asked for the ticket while I'm traveling, then I just show my Deutschland ticket. Is this correct? Also, how does it work to get on the bus? Do you have to scan it as you get on or I just get on? In the US we have to tap our cards each time so I'm confused!
Yes correct. Plus you should always have your ID with it to proof that it is your ticket. No scans needed for the bus. Sometimes at night, you need to show your ticket to the bus driver. No tapping or scanning tickets at all in Germany. It's based on trust and ticket checks are random to enforce the system.
How is it possible to plan a journey using only local and regional trains? Is there any useful app that only shows the trains usable by the season ticket?
Hello! Thank you for the video! Interesting thing is that sometimes there are some RE trains where Deutschland Ticket is also not valid. At least I’ve heard this from one Berlin blogger. But I did not found any resource to confirm.
That was the case last year with the 9 euros ticket. In the DB app it sometimes said under specific RB trains excluding 9 euros ticket. Not sure how it will be now with the Deutschland Ticket.
As far as I know, that's still true for trains operated by DB Fernverkehr (some RE are actually IC trains but you can use them with an RE ticket). Usually there are regular RE along the same route one can take instead. But the usual DB navigator app doesn't help there, while some alternative apps have a "Deutschlandticket" option that will exclude those connections.
Does it charge you proportionally for the first month if you buy it part way through? I see I can buy it for august even though it's now half way through august. I wonder if you just get charged half that month?
I am extremely disappointed that the government plans to increase the price, instead of lowering it. This was meant to be a climate saver and to actually help out people suffering from inflation and poverty. This just 13euro cheaper than my current travel pass for Berlin and that allowed me to share the ticket and had other perks.
i fly into Düsseldorf weeze on Monday and i want to travel between the airport to Düsseldorf then between Düsseldorf Dortmund Koln etc is the Deutschland ticket the best option?
But i see that lot of Germans still buy the tickets . They are not using Deutschland ticket, when I asked them they said they don't want to use it . I don't know why?
Not everyone uses public transport enough that 49 Euros would be worth it. Some only use the train from time to time, in which case having a monthly subscription would be stupid if it exceeds the price that you would pay without it.
@Nelson Bolela No, I like it, like a word game. You meant the Smoothly, but it was also subtly. 😄Everything else they say really helps understand and navigate Germany more smoothly, so it practically never runs missing! 😊
Thank you for your videos! So if one was travelling from Hammelburg to Berlin? And it has RB-RE-ICE connections. Can one buy one Deutschland Ticket that covers RB-RE fare and then just buy ICE ticket from the station the connection starts and the ICE destination? Is this possible? Thank you :)
Hello, I have a few questions, I hope that is okay. Is this still available? Can the wise account be accepted to purchase this? If you have the chip card and you want to cancel it, can you return it to other offices that offer this ticket, or only to the office that issued you the ticket?
guys i was just checking about the cancellation and everywhere it is just written that u have cancel it before the 10th of the month. Wont that mean that if i have ticket for May but not wanna use it in June, then i must cancel it before the 10th of June and not 10th May (as u guys said in video)? Could u please confirm that once. will be glad to hear soon
Hmm, the way you describe it does not make much sense. If you want to stop using the pass immediately starting 1st June, how could you possibly only cancel it on 10th June, which is almost middle of the month already. Your payment for June would have been deducted by then. You certainly have to give advance notice period to stop the subscription. Based on my understanding of the video, you have to place your cancellation latest on 10 May. Your scenario is that you probably start your subscription on 1st May so that you can use it for the whole month of May. But you want to immediately stop using it starting 1st June. For the cancellation to kick in on 1st June, you need to cancel latest by 10 May. If you cancel from 11 May onwards, you have exceeded the advance notice period required. Your subscription will then drag on for another month till 30th June, and gets cancelled on 1st July instead. 😅
I have a question … I’m going to Europe via Munich, will be spending 2 days in Munich then fly to other countries then fly back for another 5-6 days in Munich (or nearby). I searched and found that train tickets to or from airport is 11 something Euros each, that would mean 45 euros. So shouldn’t I just go ahead and get the €49?
