Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni handed over the Lifetime Achievement award to veteran actor Dev Anand at the NDTV Indian Of The Year Awards 2011 in New Delhi.
Dev Sahab, is so sharp in memory @ 88 & the tone of his voice so energetic, english so fluent, dress sense so elite, Salute to Dev Sahab, a legendary actor.
The secret to his longevity and success apart from being drop dead gorgeous and supremely talented was that he never rested on his laurels. Every day was a new challenge and ripe with opportunity, he subscribed to the idiom 'carpe diem' until he breathed his last. He is not only a film star without peer but an exemplar of how one should live one's life. They spoke the queen's English in his day, he also had a bachelors with English Honours from Government College Lahore. What a gentleman, the young man from Gurdas Pur who would one day be likened to Gregory Peck. Guide was your finest hour. You are missed to this day Dev Sahib.
When I watched Guide movie for the first time sometime when I was 20 or 22 ( I don't remember at this stage. I am 70 now), frankly ,except for songs I found story very boring .After that I watched the movie for 3 or 4 times more at different ages and stages of life, the intricate and complex man-women relationship started unfolding and I could grasp the core story line better instantly. That is why it has a timeless appeal. The intricate storyline has been couched in beautiful music and songs. Dev Saheb was and would forever remain a true icon of movies and people of this country not only as an actor but also as a human being -urban,suave,cultured and learned . He reminds us that "life is a celebration, live it".
After watching the movie The Guide, I watched this clip, it really moved my heart mysteriously. How the time changes everything. I think about myself, I'm a young handsome boy, people call me hero but one day will come when........................................
A highly experienced and a matured actor Srhi. Dev Anand has been honoured with the life time achievement award for his rich contributions to the world of cinema , a well deserved award for the greatest actor of all times. Some of the treasured moments of an actor's life. Late Shri. Dev Anand richly deserved such awards , even though it came very late in his life.
I am 26 yrs world... My eras actors are Ranbir srk Aamir but I have alz keen love n admiration for Dev Anand ,dilip Kumar , Rajesh khana..they r on my toplist.
Dev Anand speaks so well. He is a very good orator. He has a style of speaking. He can add emotion to words. If you watch Dev Anand's interview, you will start liking him.
When Rajnikant was given award SRK stood up with respect when he was asked a question... But Farhaan and Abhay don't have courtesy to stand up for the legend....
I don't know how our generation forget about respect, even the then President of India stand up to talk with Mr. Dev Anand. Other didn't even bother to show some respect to their senior.
Majority of India's Presidents grew up watching Devsaab's films. Even Dr. Kalam, who personally bestowed upon him the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, admitted that though he didn't watch movies Dev Anand was his favourite movie star. Ironically, Devsaab died on 3rd December, 2011. 3rd December happens to be India's National Lawyers Day celebrated on the birth anniversary of India's innaugral President Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Devsaab was the son of a practicing attorney and great friends with Dr. Prasad himself.
