I remember when Mazzulla was officially hired. The first/only thing Malika Andrews could say was the incident he had in College(which wasn't germane to ANYTHING). Talent/skill level is the highest it's ever been. Those things mainly contribute to offense. Concentration and effort are bigger contributors to defense. Today's players are much better shooters and athletes than the players from decades ago. What's "not there anymore" is the emphasis on effort on defense. And that probably has something to do with the improvement on offense across the league. Seems like the defense can't keep up.

Can't say I agree with the polarizing player perspective...I believe it's larger than that. I truly believe the NBA has a PRODUCT PROBLEM. The product has become very hard to watch. Offense is marketed to a fault. Defense is shunned and diminished. Shooting 60 3's a night is the norm, and promoting single name stars over teams is also the norm. I believe it lays also at the feet of one of the worse commissioners in pro sports Adam "I've Got Your" Silver Slipper. He's all about PROFIT over the PRODUCT quality...and it shows.
