at least the official announcement of DMC5 wasn't when it was only ink on paper like Squareenix's games. also, DMC5 lives to the hype unlike KH3 and FF15

I first got into Devil May Cry back around 2016 with 4 and ever since then I've loved the series

I played DMC 3 and 4 first but it was the animated series that really got me to invest into the world. It has many problems sure, but it made the world quite logical. Regular people seem to view demons not as an unknown monstrosity, but more of a lethal pest or mould problem. This also explains to Dante’s lack of wealth despite being such a good demon hunter. Which is why I really have a problem with that DMC reboot game. A world where demons have to influence human exclusively through human methods. That’s a bit too grounded in reality for people who are looking for this series. The world of devil may cry is not a regular similar to earth world. It’s a world where people can learn magic, trade with demons, summon demons, study alchemy, etc. It’s what would happen if many fantasy worlds’ time line go forward half a millennia and experience a magical industrial revolution.

I liked DMC4 ok, it was my first DMC. I went back and played or watched my buddy replay the old games, and then I played the 2013 reboot by myself (which was less “stylish resident evil” inspired than the first game, but I liked it more than most of the DMC sequels). What did you think of it?

Good explanation Rob, clear, concise and to the point. You should do similar videos of other game series, maybe this could be another segment for you to do in the same vein as Friday Features or Tuesday Checklist. Example; do a history of the Uncharted games which would be a good lead up to Uncharted 4, which some people haven't played yet, well I haven't anyway.

I was meant to replay through the series before DMC5 released but didn't get the chance to so I didn't bother downloading them. Started the series with the DMC1 demo, the ending of that demo always had me hooked. Eventually got DMC1 fully. Next game I played in the series was 4 before bringing my PS2 back home (as I kept it where my gran lived) and as I did that, bought 2 and 3 also

DMC5 light novel states in Dante's storyline that he escaped hell through a small portal to the human world possibly caused by Yamato being shattered in the demon world by Mundus and creating some dimensional rifts as known in DMC4 Yamato landed on Fortuna and was taken by the order.

This game series sounds awesome, I've only ever played that other Devil May Cry game which I really enjoyed but I'll probably play through this storyline now definitely in chronological order. You guys did great as always.

I really enjoyed DmC (2013) as well! Older DMC games (especially the first) are harder, with less health, more complicated button combos, and Resident Evil style key hunting (and gothic style). DMC4 feels the most like DmC (2013), but you probably should start with DMC 3, then the original DMC (HD Remaster), and you can skip DMC2 and go straight for DMC4 ;) The chronology might actually make more sense if you skip DMC2, and no need to get burned out on the series, but if you can get over the drab graphics design DMC2 has some fun in there.

Theres a dmc story recap on the main menu of dmc5..its only about 10min or so. It kinda explains the story a bit better imo.

Sigh...I guess I should give the old games another shot. It's been long enough. They always seemed like I should love them, but I didn't. Although I really loved DmC, and the Bayonetta games. Maybe now the time for them to click.

I loved DmC too! I really hope that developer survives. The first DMC and DMC3 are worth playing (first DMC is pretty hard, still has a lot of Resident Evil influence and a fascination with impaling Danté), DMC4 is like a blend of the old and what was to come in DmC (2013).
