@Master of Kush the industrial part of NIN, yup. I might go along the white zombie lines before NIN. Course that what cool about music. We have our own version of the overall sound. For me its Rob/White Zombie with symphonic leanings (for sure some dreamtheatre in the widdly bits) and kitten core.

Every single part was cohesive and necessary. If you like predictable verse chorus verse chorus structure then go listen to Breaking Benjamin or something similarly lame.
@@eddie9454 It's pretentious if it is put in just to flex and fill the air with notes just because of ego. It's not pretentious if it's honest. Especially when things flow so seamlessly. There aren't parts thrown in just to show off and make the song longer (like a lot of prog bands). This is one cohesive unit. And it works extremely well.

Very fast I became a huge fan of Devin some time after the release of "Empath". I am 56 years old and this amazing "Genesis" track (and video) was the very first time I ever heard of Devin and I was completely blown away right away by his incredible talent. He is now on my top five all time favorite music artists. He is nothing less than a musical genius.. to me the answer to a progressive modern time Mozart. With so many fantastic tracks and albums through out his career, it is unreal how this amazing artist had gone under my radar for so many decades. But better late than never! -Love you Devin!!

I grew up bouncing between so many genres and just not having a favorite artist. Im 29 now, but about 5 years ago I learned of Devin Townsend. The moral of the story is I'm on a 5 year bender with this man and literally no other artist scratches this itch.

I got goosebumps as soon as I heard the drums start at 1:22, and had a massive smile on my face for the chorus. Not sure how I've gone this long without listening to Devin.

This is all the glory and legacy of Devin in one song, but with something fresh and truly new. Crazy yet distilled, wicked yet organized, all over the place yet also streamlined. My craving for this album is significantly elevated, even in comparison to my already high lust towards it before this song.
Don't mind me, I'll just be over here picking up the pieces of my shattered expectations. Just when I thought I couldn't love your music more than I do. We are not worthy.
It takes a special kind of jerk to thumbs down this video. I mean, videos that espouse political or scientific notions that you disagree with or consider dangerous or something, sure, but an artistic video that has so obviously taken an insane amount of time and effort to do? It may not be your thing - perfectly fine, but just move on and don’t press that button, you horrible person.
This is exactly what I expected and wanted of this:something truly uncompromised and showcases all of Devin's talents. Well done and I can't wait for the record!
Devin's music pre DTP greatly attributed to what's shaped me as a person. It gave me goosebumps time and time again hearing the melodies and riffs of tracks like Bastard, Night, Sunday afternoon, Suicide, Pixellate, Deep Peace to name a few. SYL included. He played a major role in opening my eyes to the power of music for catharsis and brought so much comfort and genuine happiness from listening to it. Although I don't connect with the style he's evolved to post the Ki album, I will always refer to Dev as a genius, and probably one of the most genuine human beings on the planet. An absolute pleasure to live in a time of such a talented musician and hear the music that's documented his story.
I love how Devin always seems to have FUN with his music. Sometimes it feels like heavy metal is a "no fun allowed" zone and Devin is always refreshing.
@Philip Arbon Agreed, I think as a genre metal is great and one of the most versatile because as much as people try to define it and limit what it entails, it actually gives so many talented artists a space to freely express themselves however they feel. Not too many genres can allow the experimentation that metal allows. It definitely doesn't have to be all doom and gloom, it can be whatever the artist feels at that moment. Metal is special because it allows musicians to truly express themselves beyond what any other genre does. You can show your rage, hatred and anger, but can also be about just having fun.
Yeah, it feels like an ultra-refined mix of just about everything he's explored over the years. He said that DTP never "felt right", but I think it is definitely an inseparable part of his development as a musician, and it shows here.
